I just saw that Tatiana Patiz has died of breast cancer! This is so sad! She was one of those models that was effortlessly cool. I saw her on a photo shoot early in the morning in Soho. It was freezing, it was February, and she was wearing a sheer tank top bra, and body suit with sheer leggings, striking the pose in the cold, half dressed, that's an OG at work. R.I.P. Tatiana Patiz, it's so sad, another fashion hero of mine gone. My condolences to her family. Such a sweet soul gone far too soon.
I was one year older than Tatjana when she achieved supermodel status in the 90s and hit NY an hour away from where I grew up, where I dreamed of being part of that elite scene myself. Now I'm wise enough to know that success is who you are within, not what you outwardly achieve or what you look like. I like to think Tatjana reached the same realizations before she moved on from this world, and died happy deep inside, not clinging to where the applause had long since already faded.
@@ewat4753 Tasha de Vasconcelos,Heather Stuart-Whyte,Hellena Barquilla,Angelika Kallio,Trisha Hellfer,Shiraz Tal,Tatiana Sorroco,Patricia Velasquez,Manon von Gerkan to name few more stunning models and not very known to the wide public!
Beautiful model! Ethereal and cool presence, was in her prime late 80s to early 90s. Her Herb Ritts photo shoots are some of the best! Was primarily a print model. Her walk was heavy and off balance, lacking energy and passion. She didn't like runway and it showed. In fact at the Fall 95 Todd Oldham show in an interview she said she was never going to do another season of runway again.
Tatjana Patitz, the 50ft woman from Nick Kamen's Tell Me(1988). Her giantess character was gorgeous and breathtaking indeed. Being so huge, powerful, beautiful, glamorous, kind and gentle, she literally blew up my mind when I watched the music video as a kid. I hope that she will grow into a 50ft woman in real life and dominate the whole world. Giantess Revolution must be realized.
Supermodel Tatjana Patitz has died at the age of 56: Vogue, announced news of her death on Jan. 11. The cause of death was confirmed by her agent to be breast cancer. Considered one of the original supermodels, the Germany-born, Sweden-raised Patitz entered her first modeling contest at age 17 in Stockholm. Though she took home third place, it wasn't until famed photographer Peter Lindbergh photographed her a few years later in 1988 that her career started to blossom. One of Patitz's most memorable appearances came after she modeled for British Vogue in 1990 - George Michael cast her for his "Freedom '90" music video alongside Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell and Linda Evangelista.
i love the look she gave to the vultures in the audiance. she knew shes the best and she was above all those who envied her and at the same time she wasnt rude in it. there was a grace in her look, an icon to those who admired her and a class to those who envied. above all but not in a rude manner.
Note: Versace did not replace Tatjana with any other model - not Claudia nor Stephanie nor Carla nor Helena - at the Fall 1991 show to walk with Linda, Cindy, Naomi and Christy to "Freedom! 90". At that moment in time, only Tatjana could walked THAT walk with them. If Tatjana had chosen to do that show, she would have been there. She represented Versace's brand in ads before the 1991 show, and well after the 1991 show - on runways and in the 1994 Versace campaign. Tatjana will always be one of "The Big Five" original supermodels who starred in the iconic "Freedom! 90" music video and on the famous January British Vogue cover - these changed the fashion industry forever.
Other era-defining designers of the 1980s and 90s, such as Azzedine Alaia and Theirry Mugler, Helmet Lang and Jil Sander celebrated Tatjana's statuesque presence and cool walk on their runways. The most famous shows Tatjana ever did are Vivienne Westwood's 1994 "Cafe Society", Jean Paul Gualtier's 1994 "Le Tatouages" show - and all of Helmut Lang's shows of the late 90s and early 2000s. Her appearance closing the 2010 Chanel Cruise collection in the finale with Karl Lagerfeld also very theatrical. And the 2020 show for F/W 2019 Etro made headlines worldwide.
Yes... 100%. To say that she was blacklisted by Versace is silly. She was very selective about her work. And, to this day, when I see that Versace moment, I always think of Tatjana and I'm sure thousands of other people do too. How amazing would an original 5 reunion be??? A vogue cover? Or dare I saw it, another video?
@@updog88 I hope so... If it happens, it should happen soon! The world is waiting with bated breath.. Linda, Christy, Cindy, Naomi..... Tatjana! Why has this not happened already???
I understand to an extent why she didn't endure the way that her contemporaries did, there is something "challenging" about her beauty (a lot of harsh, crooked lines forming a strangely alluring whole), and as this video demonstrates, runway was not her strong suit, either. But when you look through the editorial work that she did with the likes of Peter Lindberg, Herb Ritts, Patrick Demarchelier, etc., there's no denying how rare and memorable her look was. RIP Tatjana.
In my honest opinion her look was more suited for magazines, great profile. She doesn't get as much adulation as the rest of the supermodels which is a shame. Not the best runway model, but makes up for it with her elegant stature.❤️ 😀👍🏾🙏🏾☀️🌈 You're very welcome.
Fun fact: Tatjana Patitz was supposed to be in the famous George Michaels Freedom 90 Gianni Versace runway walk with Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, and Linda Evangelista, but she was doing another fashion show and she couldn't make it.
I wonder if she pissed Gianni off by not doing that show because she never did a ready-to-wear show for him after that, and he would book all the stars. Anyway she missed out on being part of a historic fashion moment.
@@fred8433 Yeah, I do think Tatjana probably pissed off Gianni by not doing his show. Because like you said, after Freedom 1992, Gianni never hired Tatjana for a big fashion show like that again. 😂 And Tatjana missed out on being apart of one of the biggest fashion moments in history so I'm sure she still regrets not doing that Gianni Versace show. 🤣
@@Firespawnable Where did you hear this? I've always wondered why Tatjana never did that show. She did do a couture show for Versace in 1994 as well as the ad campaign that season. I've read she knew it was going to be a media bomb and she was not interested in being a part of it. She really did shy away from the spotlight. I think she just wanted to model, be successful, but I don't think she really liked the industry as much as the other women

If you compare her runway walk to the runway models in this generation, she walks far better. Models nowadays strut the runways with their rigid bodies which are awful.
she said many times that she never like runways that's why she did it nervously . but her walk was never a problem for designers beacause she was on all runways
@@updog88 Agreed! I remember the first runway I saw her on was Prada Spring 1992 and was like Whoa! I love her. She's very womanly.. and if they all walked like Yasmeen, they'd be hip checking each other off the runway. And that's no dig towards Yasmeen, arguably the best runway model, but they all had their own walk.
