When it comes to Barty specifically, tbh...... I kind of prefer his book-canon characterisation more than his movie-canon depiction (I'm so sorry David Tennant) or fanon characterisation. I have only read parts of GOF so take everything I'm about to say with a grain of salt, but he just seems so much more human than the movie rendition. Like in the trial flashback scene, he really was just a scared kid. He was 19 standing next to these fully grown adults (Bellatrix herself was 30 when she got sentenced, and I personally hc the Lestrange brothers as being older), about to be sentenced to life in prison by his own father. He was terrified. Sure he may have been guilty, but I still feel for him bc of how easy that scene makes it to imagine him as a scared teenager who got in too deep. Everything else we know about him kind of builds on that, like what Sirius says about his relationship with his dad, and how he cried for his mother for the first few days he was locked up. I also find it interesting that what we learn about him as a child/teenager doesn't really lead up to him becoming a death eater; him being smart, getting good grades, coming from a strict anti-death eater household. I find myself-as many do when it comes to people/characters who do horrible things-looking for hidden signs that could've predicted his fate and I just... can't. Book-Barty is really sold as this kid who seemed perfectly normal, did all the right things, and yet still managed to go down the wrong path. Imo, this version of him is way more interesting to me than fanon 'crazy-rebel-punk' Barty. He's just so much more nuanced and it makes it harder for me to hate him. I also find it so funny that book-Barty is canonically this blonde kid with freckles and the fandom just completely discarded that bc David Tennant is hot lol

i sort of gravitate to the skittles (…i rlly hate the name but it’s stuck like that. i guess.) is bc i was AGGRESSIVELY fixated on the psychology of radicalisation from ages 15-18 and it has sort of stuck around as an interest (im getting a psych degree partially bc of it). i also just grew up in a miserable rural area and had to watch like. most people i know grow up and become radicalised into. miserable ideals, which is part of why it fascinates me i suppose. the skittles have in a sense become a coping mechanism where i can sort of. puppet them and create worlds in which someone found a way to intervene before the genuinely kind boy you used to baby sit who used to bring in a chair so he could help you cook lunch, turns into the most insufferable andrew tate stan you’ve had the displeasure of standing near. to me it’s interesting to take these sorts of characters in fictional settings and humanise them and analyse what systems failed (or, what systems did exactly what they’re destined to do) to create someone who acts like this. which. isn’t for everyone, and i definitely get how and why it can be upsetting or uncomfortable to some people but for me it’s a. little project with little dolls i can puppet master about in my brain

I am someone who is a S.S . fan, and I don’t like the canon actions of the characters. They did some horrible things, I can’t deny that. Most of the time I forget that tho, because I consume mostly “No Voldemort” fics. Which means death eaters don’t exist. I feel like if you try to justify most their canon actions, that is bad. If you recognize that they did bad things, don’t justify it, and still consume the media with that in mind, that is okay. If you don’t consume that media, you are also valid. (Also Let’s go Lesbians)

Their group consists of Severus Snape, Bruce Mulciber ll, Edmund Avery Jr., Wilhelm Wilkes, Charity Burbage, and Aurora Sinistra and their group is called the Slytherin Squad (even though Charity is often headcannoned as a hufflepuff and Aurora as a Ravenclaw 🤷🏻♀️)
I'm not in the Marauders fandom currently b/c I'm still hesitant to engage with HP stuff do to JKR (watch me get into it from watching your videos though), but I'll give you my take on the Slytherin Skittles coming from the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes fandom, which has a somewhat similar debate as far as portraying Snow and the other Academy students go. Obviously defending the actual views/actions of the characters is not ok, they are very literally Wizard Nazis and that is never going to be defensible or acceptable. However, writing an AU where they don't have those views is ok to me. That's literally what fanfiction is for--putting characters into situations they would never find themselves in in canon--and so it doesn't bother me as long as you as the author acknowledge that you are writing them OOC for the funzies (they're basically ocs with canon names at that point tbh) and aren't actually trying to erase that part of their canon character or sympathize/uwu-ify the baby fascists. Alternatively, I find radicalization and the means by which totalitarian regimes (especially the Nazis) gain and stay in power fascinating from a historical and sociopolitical standpoint (I'm a history and poli sci major, sue me), and so writing them with their canon views, if done respectfully, is a fantastic opportunity for fic writers (and readers but this is my perspective as a writer) to explore how these things work and how innocent children can turn into men and women who will uphold a fascist regime. Portrayed correctly, these characters are human and can have relatable traits and relationships you root for while turning out to be irredeemable villains, characters that are victims of circumstance but ultimately culpable for their own unforgivable actions. History and the fiction based on it (yes JKR literally based the Deatheaters on the Nazis and Italian Fascists, I could write a whole thing just on the parallels and weird vibes there) has so many shades of gray and people have to be at least mildly media literate to appreciate that and understand the difference between it and just sympathizing the characters, but what it's done well it's really really good (this is my love letter to TBOSAS and the movie Swing Kids haha). I totally respect people who do have an issue with it as long as they are respectful in turn (not wanting to engage with wizard Nazis or look at politics frighteningly close to some of the ethos on the US American Right right now is totally valid) . Everyone has a right to their own opinion and characters like this have a really interesting potential for sociopolitical conversations when people aren't attacking each other over it. Sorry for the ridiculously long comment I could talk about this all day haha.

As someone who likes the slytherin skittles, I don’t support their canon actions at all, I just read a lot of fanfiction so sometimes I just simply forget that the canon even exists lol. I’ve also read like a lot of AU’s where Voldemort doesn’t exist or at least not to the extent he does in the canon universe, so there’s no death eaters or Barty, Reg and Evan aren’t a part of them. Even if they’re not death eaters Barty and Evan are oftentimes still very unhinged and sometimes even Regulus is, it’s kinda just part of their personalities and it’d just feel very wrong if they weren’t so, as long as they aren’t willingly death eaters, I love them. (And Dorcas and Pandora too ofc but those two are way less problematic haha)
A common head cannon I see about Regulus becoming a animagus is because he finds out that Sirius is one & he can’t have Sirius be better than him at anything so…. He does it just so Sirius can’t be special about be the youngest person to do it 😂😂

In my head it is kind of like these versions and canon death eater versions are different. BUT I agree that everyone is entitled to their own opinions! It’s so interesting because I am very much not in the Slytherin Skittles fandom and know little about it but I had a phase in which a read A LOT of marauders fanfiction and in ye olde times where I read exclusively marauders fanfiction the Valyries were not the Valkyries but the Gryffindor Girls and consisted of Lily, Marlene, Mary and Dorcas (sometimes with Alice and Emmeline) and while I’ve seen them in many different houses. I’ve seen Dorcas in Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuffs, I’ve predominantly seen her in Gryffindor at the time. So it’s interesting to see that she’s been resorted into Slytherin with this new generation of Marauders era fans.

i arrived at your discourse section about the skittles, and you said we could put opinions, so oh well. In my country (chile), teenagers are more political; Especially public high schoolers. While i was there, i shared tables with a cluster of political girlies, and while i was just a free spirited activist (i don't really trust institutions, was into sporadic collective protests) they were actually militants in an organization. And the thing is! the message of the organization was so vague! "liberation, freedom, better education", sure, whatever, hogwash, but you feel drawn to it, it's so official, you can finally make a change with these people, organize protests... You can see where I am going, it was utter bullshit, they were siphoning money from student centers to finance borderline terrorist stuff, instructing teenagers to heavily flirt with others to recruit them, hid some SA situations, and had a lot of pull in public high schools. One of my group was the first whistleblower, two followed, and the other was the main recruiter from the area, got threatened with violence, started taking only her exams, and stopped going to class. I didn't even know shit, i just thought they shouldn't put so much faith in an organization with nebulous intentions, nobody told me shit. the school's president's boyfriend (from the boy school down the street) got outed as a thief and she had to break up publicly, immediately, and humiliatingly with him, even tho she cared for him and was just confused, or she would have been dragged down with him, since she also didn't know shit. in the end everything went to utter shit, the ones that didn't whistleblow got dragged even further into the organization, turns out that the one i was sitting next to started hitting her boyfriend, when he started to disagree, rape allegations started coming out, it was absolute wreckage. That shit happens. i Saw it happen. Organizations or movements with ulterior motives sink their claws, especially in youth, and the people around them don't even notice enough to help. in the books they are pretty explicit about their intentions, but i bet it didn't start that way. it was subtle and it may have even looked noble. thats how you recruit kids, thats how you have them pledging at 17, and dying at 18. and then, when they are primed, you show the end goal. some would escape, dying, sowing fear, and the rest are ready to put their lives for the cause. That's why i like the skittles as a concept. i saw it happen in the cluster of public schools of my capital. But more importantly, I saw it in my classroom, where suddenly i didn't know with whom i would sit, whose side will i choose with absolutely minimum information (maybe that's what happened with Pandora, she just didn't know), and knowing that the wrong choice would put me maybe in just snide glances, but maybe in danger. I find it compelling, i understand that sometimes situations are really hard for those kids, and i wish to investigate how they cope with their decisions. If they are just wizard nazis that want death and destruction for the sake of it, i do not care. But if they are kids, scared and influenced, until they feel too deep, and think even their friends will turn them in... now that's terrifying.

Maxence Danet-Fauvel is from the french version Casper von Bülow is from the german version Eren M. Güvercin (Sirius) and Paul Ahrens (Remus) are also from the german version Reiky de valk (James) is from the dutch version (though many people don’t use him as a fancast anymore because he died and they think he should be respected for the roles he actually played bc a lot of comments under his death announcement say stuff like: RIP James Potter) I just think it’s really interesting that there’s so many fancasts from that series

The general vibes I really like so its more like having OCs in a different little story. (alsoo another part) I used to think dorcas was in hufflepuff, decided I liked the arc of barty in ravenclaw bc he was still evil, dont rly care about evan or pandora being slytherin or ravenclaw. my opinions on the skittles: personally, i read a lot of modern au fics and muggle au fics where there is no wizards and there is no war, in which the skittles are ususllay normal and just kind of either mean and sarcastic or weird kids. I like the skittles NOT because of the canon death eater parts but more because of the story they provide and they are complicated characters and its interesting to read they're POVs. I also I like they're vibes and that the basis that they're friendgroup was created on was being social rejects who probably all need therapy OUTSIDE FROM CANON. For me they're just funny and silly outside of canon compliant fics. I agree that in canon compliant fics the skittles (mainly regulus barty and even) are the worst people on earth and as someone who is jewish I take the concept of "wizard nazis" very seriously and understand that they're canon characters are awful and morally wrong even though it's fiction. This being said, I appreciate they're dynamics and what they add to the stories I read, as well as their modern characterizations where they are removed from the canon world. Most (NOT ALL) people who like the slytherin skittles also tend to follow this belief system. hope this explained why some people like the skittles
Personally my favourite marauders character is barty, but i will never say that his actions were anything but a hate crime. I do not agree nor will i ever encourage the kind of behaviour or actions that canon barty has done. one of the other analysing comments (@sobsel) talked about his book characterisation, and how they prefer it to fanon, and yeah, in canon compliant fics i absolutely want book barty, but if its no-Voldemort or a modern setting punk barty is my go to. @arcanerosies comment also had me thinking, as someone whose heavily into phycology was there a chance that all my favourite characters would be the ones with the heaviest trauma? the answer to that question is yes. i do see myself quite a lot in barty, but all the parts of him that doesnt include his psychotic actions. I could never imagine myself ever doing anything like that to other people (james is my second biggest kin so that explains it all). rosekiller and jegulus are two of my favourite ships, and then bartylus as an unrequited and/or past lovers. but, i live for angst, so my favourite tag is unrequited :P thought i share a little bit of my thoughts from a few of the top comments and the first part of the video !!
evan’s characterization is truly so all over the place. i would say crimson rivers, just lovers and art heist baby do him justice tho. fave version of him and he’s not being sidelined in those fics like he is in most ahaha
i'm planning to read just lovers (and possibly crimson rivers because i've had so many people ask me to LMAO) so i'm intrigued to see what his character will be like in those 👀

As someone who loves the Slytherin Skittels. I understand when people don't like them, that's fine and valid. I must say that I mostly read ff that aren't canon. Like "Meetings that start in the dark" and "to the boy who..." I do think we should draw a clear line between fiction and reality but just to explain myself. The Slytherin Skittels are kids, like everyone else. Regulus died at 17/18 and Evan also died rather fast. What they did is not in any way justified. I just want to state that there isn't much of a canon for them. I don't know were you found that they wanted to be death eaters but that isn't the point ig. They did horrible things and they aren't good people. I'm not ok with what they did but I don't know how much we should put on children that grew up with all of that. (We ignore barty for a sec here, mostly talking about Regulus and Evan) It's sometimes hard to realize that your parents are in the wrong. I don't know why I get defensive over them but I just wanted to try explain it

I said that because the only time Evan is mentioned canonically is when bringing up his name in regard to death eaters, the only solid thing I could find about him is that he was a death eater. Barty in canon is like a voldemort super fan HAHA, he's very dedicated to the whole wizard fascist thing 😂 it's hard for me to seperate canon and fanon Barty because the fancast is sometimes David Tennant who is his actor in the film and the whole daddy issues part of his character comes directly from canon. I can't speak on Evan because I still do not know much about that man (seriously why is he so hard to figure out LOL) but in the case of Regulus I totally give him the most grace, he's one of my favourite character's so admittedly when i'm being tough on the skittles he's not really included in that. He's a whole mess of brainwashing and being torn between what's right and what his family thinks is right and I could honestly do a whole video explaining his lore cause it's so complex! I really hope my comment doesn't come across as mean, I just wanted to add my own perspective but thank you for giving me yours! :)

With Regulus is that I can see almost the same happening in Evans family. I don't know at this point what is canon and what not but as far as I know the Rosiers are close with the Blacks and share a lot of opinions. I don't know if im accidentally projecting too much onto Regulus but I somehow can't see him activly wanting to be a death eater. Kind of like in Choices if you know what I mean.

I am someone who is a S.S . fan, and I don’t like the canon actions of the characters. They did some horrible things, I can’t deny that. Most of the time I forget that tho, because I consume mostly “No Voldemort” fics. Which means death eaters don’t exist.
I feel like if you try to justify most their canon actions, that is bad.
If you recognize that they did bad things, don’t justify it, and still consume the media with that in mind, that is okay.
If you don’t consume that media, you are also valid.

Their group consists of Severus Snape, Bruce Mulciber ll, Edmund Avery Jr., Wilhelm Wilkes, Charity Burbage, and Aurora Sinistra and their group is called the Slytherin Squad (even though Charity is often headcannoned as a hufflepuff and Aurora as a Ravenclaw 🤷🏻♀️)

I'm not in the Marauders fandom currently b/c I'm still hesitant to engage with HP stuff do to JKR (watch me get into it from watching your videos though), but I'll give you my take on the Slytherin Skittles coming from the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes fandom, which has a somewhat similar debate as far as portraying Snow and the other Academy students go.
Obviously defending the actual views/actions of the characters is not ok, they are very literally Wizard Nazis and that is never going to be defensible or acceptable. However, writing an AU where they don't have those views is ok to me. That's literally what fanfiction is for--putting characters into situations they would never find themselves in in canon--and so it doesn't bother me as long as you as the author acknowledge that you are writing them OOC for the funzies (they're basically ocs with canon names at that point tbh) and aren't actually trying to erase that part of their canon character or sympathize/uwu-ify the baby fascists.
Alternatively, I find radicalization and the means by which totalitarian regimes (especially the Nazis) gain and stay in power fascinating from a historical and sociopolitical standpoint (I'm a history and poli sci major, sue me), and so writing them with their canon views, if done respectfully, is a fantastic opportunity for fic writers (and readers but this is my perspective as a writer) to explore how these things work and how innocent children can turn into men and women who will uphold a fascist regime. Portrayed correctly, these characters are human and can have relatable traits and relationships you root for while turning out to be irredeemable villains, characters that are victims of circumstance but ultimately culpable for their own unforgivable actions. History and the fiction based on it (yes JKR literally based the Deatheaters on the Nazis and Italian Fascists, I could write a whole thing just on the parallels and weird vibes there) has so many shades of gray and people have to be at least mildly media literate to appreciate that and understand the difference between it and just sympathizing the characters, but what it's done well it's really really good (this is my love letter to TBOSAS and the movie Swing Kids haha).
I totally respect people who do have an issue with it as long as they are respectful in turn (not wanting to engage with wizard Nazis or look at politics frighteningly close to some of the ethos on the US American Right right now is totally valid) . Everyone has a right to their own opinion and characters like this have a really interesting potential for sociopolitical conversations when people aren't attacking each other over it.

As someone who likes the slytherin skittles, I don’t support their canon actions at all, I just read a lot of fanfiction so sometimes I just simply forget that the canon even exists lol. I’ve also read like a lot of AU’s where Voldemort doesn’t exist or at least not to the extent he does in the canon universe, so there’s no death eaters or Barty, Reg and Evan aren’t a part of them. Even if they’re not death eaters Barty and Evan are oftentimes still very unhinged and sometimes even Regulus is, it’s kinda just part of their personalities and it’d just feel very wrong if they weren’t so, as long as they aren’t willingly death eaters, I love them. (And Dorcas and Pandora too ofc but those two are way less problematic haha)
A common head cannon I see about Regulus becoming a animagus is because he finds out that Sirius is one & he can’t have Sirius be better than him at anything so…. He does it just so Sirius can’t be special about be the youngest person to do it 😂😂

In my head it is kind of like these versions and canon death eater versions are different. BUT I agree that everyone is entitled to their own opinions! ALSO I will NEVER excuse the canon actions, fiction or not that doesn't mean it's a good thing. It's like if you read a book with a killer in it. I'm not gonna excuse the killer killing people, but I can accept it's fiction.

It’s so interesting because I am very much not in the Slytherin Skittles fandom and know little about it but I had a phase in which a read A LOT of marauders fanfiction and in ye olde times where I read exclusively marauders fanfiction the Valyries were not the Valkyries but the Gryffindor Girls and consisted of Lily, Marlene, Mary and Dorcas (sometimes with Alice and Emmeline) and while I’ve seen them in many different houses. I’ve seen Dorcas in Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuffs, I’ve predominantly seen her in Gryffindor at the time. So it’s interesting to see that she’s been resorted into Slytherin with this new generation of Marauders era fans.

In my country (chile), teenagers are more political; Especially public high schoolers. While i was there, i shared tables with a cluster of political girlies, and while i was just a free spirited activist (i don't really trust institutions, was into sporadic collective protests) they were actually militants in an organization. And the thing is! the message of the organization was so vague! "liberation, freedom, better education", sure, whatever, hogwash, but you feel drawn to it, it's so official, you can finally make a change with these people, organize protests...
You can see where I am going, it was utter bullshit, they were siphoning money from student centers to finance borderline terrorist stuff, instructing teenagers to heavily flirt with others to recruit them, hid some SA situations, and had a lot of pull in public high schools. One of my group was the first whistleblower, two followed, and the other was the main recruiter from the area, got threatened with violence, started taking only her exams, and stopped going to class. I didn't even know shit, i just thought they shouldn't put so much faith in an organization with nebulous intentions, nobody told me shit. the school's president's boyfriend (from the boy school down the street) got outed as a thief and she had to break up publicly, immediately, and humiliatingly with him, even tho she cared for him and was just confused, or she would have been dragged down with him, since she also didn't know shit.
in the end everything went to utter shit, the ones that didn't whistleblow got dragged even further into the organization, turns out that the one i was sitting next to started hitting her boyfriend, when he started to disagree, rape allegations started coming out, it was absolute wreckage.
That shit happens. i Saw it happen. Organizations or movements with ulterior motives sink their claws, especially in youth, and the people around them don't even notice enough to help. in the books they are pretty explicit about their intentions, but i bet it didn't start that way. it was subtle and it may have even looked noble. thats how you recruit kids, thats how you have them pledging at 17, and dying at 18. and then, when they are primed, you show the end goal. some would escape, dying, sowing fear, and the rest are ready to put their lives for the cause.
That's why i like the skittles as a concept. i saw it happen in the cluster of public schools of my capital. But more importantly, I saw it in my classroom, where suddenly i didn't know with whom i would sit, whose side will i choose with absolutely minimum information (maybe that's what happened with Pandora, she just didn't know), and knowing that the wrong choice would put me maybe in just snide glances, but maybe in danger. I find it compelling, i understand that sometimes situations are really hard for those kids, and i wish to investigate how they cope with their decisions.
If they are just wizard nazis that want death and destruction for the sake of it, i do not care. But if they are kids, scared and influenced, until they feel too deep, and think even their friends will turn them in... now that's terrifying.

Personally, I like the slytherin skittles because at this point they're young and even though they an still be bad people I like to give teenagers the benefit of the dlubt. Also its fiction and in my mind I kinda ignore the war entirely. I prefer the characters and their dynamis as opposed to some form of plot if that makes sense

i've never really been into the skittles and i don't know enough about them to have too much of an opinion but my stance is that i'm fine with it and i might enjoy a couple fics where they're explored in depth with all the gray areas etc. but the most interesting part about the skittles is reggie, dorcas and pandora for me anyways so i don't really have much of an interest left for rosekiller. death eaters are... not my thing, especially if they appear to have had no pressure to join (stares at snape) so i'd rather stay in the marauders+valkyrie circle.

Basically I mainly read slytherin skittles AUs, I dont read the hogwarts death eater stuff, I like modern or university or litteraly anything. The general vibes I really like so its more like having OCs in a different little story. The rosekiller angst is rly fun when its not hogwarts level angst if that makes sense. and david tennant is king so i def giggle every time I watch goblet of fire. (alsoo another part) I used to think dorcas was in hufflepuff, decided I liked the arc of barty in ravenclaw bc he was still evil, dont rly care about evan or pandora being slytherin or ravenclaw. SO when they are in different houses I kind of enjoy the idea like yes, they could all be in ravenclaw bc my universe has no voldy)
i read like EVERYTHING i will consume any type of content about any marauder character but yes!! AUs are so good because the characters get a chance to be more conplex and you can sympathise with them more !! i especially love pandora and regulus' friendship

my opinions on the skittles: personally, i read a lot of modern au fics and muggle au fics where there is no wizards and there is no war, in which the skittles are ususllay normal and just kind of either mean and sarcastic or weird kids. I like the skittles NOT because of the canon death eater parts but more because of the story they provide and they are complicated characters and its interesting to read they're POVs. I also I like they're vibes and that the basis that they're friendgroup was created on was being social rejects who probably all need therapy OUTSIDE FROM CANON. For me they're just funny and silly outside of canon compliant fics. I agree that in canon compliant fics the skittles (mainly regulus barty and even) are the worst people on earth and as someone who is jewish I take the concept of "wizard nazis" very seriously and understand that they're canon characters are awful and morally wrong even though it's fiction. This being said, I appreciate they're dynamics and what they add to the stories I read, as well as their modern characterizations where they are removed from the canon world. Most (NOT ALL) people who like the slytherin skittles also tend to follow this belief system. hope this explained why some people like the skittles
Personally my favourite marauders character is barty, but i will never say that his actions were anything but a hate crime. I do not agree nor will i ever encourage the kind of behaviour or actions that canon barty has done.
one of the other analysing comments (@sobsel) talked about his book characterisation, and how they prefer it to fanon, and yeah, in canon compliant fics i absolutely want book barty, but if its no-Voldemort or a modern setting punk barty is my go to.
@arcanerosies comment also had me thinking, as someone whose heavily into phycology was there a chance that all my favourite characters would be the ones with the heaviest trauma? the answer to that question is yes.
i do see myself quite a lot in barty, but all the parts of him that doesnt include his psychotic actions. I could never imagine myself ever doing anything like that to other people (james is my second biggest kin so that explains it all).
rosekiller and jegulus are two of my favourite ships, and then bartylus as an unrequited and/or past lovers. but, i live for angst, so my favourite tag is unrequited :P

I do think we should draw a clear line between fiction and reality but just to explain myself.
The Slytherin Skittels are kids, like everyone else. Regulus died at 17/18 and Evan also died rather fast. What they did is not in any way justified. I just want to state that there isn't much of a canon for them. I don't know were you found that they wanted to be death eaters but that isn't the point ig.
They did horrible things and they aren't good people.
I'm not ok with what they did but I don't know how much we should put on children that grew up with all of that. (We ignore barty for a sec here, mostly talking about Regulus and Evan)

I said that because the only time Evan is mentioned canonically is when bringing up his name in regard to death eaters, the only solid thing I could find about him is that he was a death eater. Barty in canon is like a voldemort super fan HAHA, he's very dedicated to the whole wizard fascist thing 😂 it's hard for me to seperate canon and fanon Barty because the fancast is sometimes David Tennant who is his actor in the film and the whole daddy issues part of his character comes directly from canon.
I can't speak on Evan because I still do not know much about that man (seriously why is he so hard to figure out LOL) but in the case of Regulus I totally give him the most grace, he's one of my favourite character's so admittedly when i'm being tough on the skittles he's not really included in that. He's a whole mess of brainwashing and being torn between what's right and what his family thinks is right and I could honestly do a whole video explaining his lore cause it's so complex!

With Regulus is that I can see almost the same happening in Evans family. I don't know at this point what is canon and what not but as far as I know the Rosiers are close with the Blacks and share a lot of opinions. I don't know if im accidentally projecting too much onto Regulus but I somehow can't see him activly wanting to be a death eater. Kind of like in Choices if you know what I mean.
