I haven't read any jegulus content bc the only big fic I’ve read of marauders has been all the young dudes (thanks to you lmao) but the moment I found out abt it I was HOOKED and was so happy that (at least some of the) fandom agreed on jegulily. Like yes give Lily two boyfriends, give James two people who will gang up on him when he's begging silly, and give Reggie two sunshines who make him understand he is enough it's PERFECT??
It only took me reading one chapter of crimson rivers to understand the hype for jegulus, It's my favorite fanfic followed by art heist baby and just lovers. im a huge jily shipper (they're my babies) but I gotta say, I totally see the appeal of Jegulus. So much that I read choices and was devastated by how sad it was (totally recommend it). So i really don't get jily shippers who hate it so much, and that whole harry wouldn't have existed without jily is so silly to me because we're talking about fanfiction, we're all playing in the same field of illegitimacy, what happens in a fic has no effect whatsoever on the cannon, who cares what some people ship?? whether there's Jegulus content or there isn't, the books will remain the same, harry will still exist, lily and james will have died together, and there will be million other people doing jily content so go read that. (and if you like jily i highly recommend the Last Enemy series, it's genuinely so good)

OK, you’ve sold me on Jegulus. I wonder if the whole “But it’s not canon!” thing is *because* there is so little existing canon about the Marauders era - so those people are looking to Marauders fics to fill in the missing pieces. And it’s harder to fit Jegulus in with what’s there from the books: particularly with how Regulus and Sirius were basically estranged, and Sirius being dismissive and scornful of Regulus in book 5. Seems to me that if Regulus *had* dated James there was a better chance he’d have survived.

I genuinely don't understand people who say it is unrealistic cause what do you mean. Literally nothing about Harry Potter is realistic and and pretty much everything about the marauders is just made up. Also a lot of jegulus fics aren't even written set at Hogwarts like art heist baby (which is my favourite fic and everyone should read). I love Jegulus but I will still read fics with Jegulily and Jily cause it's all made up and judging people based on a ship of two made up characters is stupid.
if you’re planning on reading more jegulus (please) im cheering for just lovers. god that fic is just so good. the skittles friendships are the best portrayals of them, jegulus are adorable and stupid. but honestly dont let it fool you, its definitely a feel good fluffy fic, but there are at least 3 big angst moments that have me on the floor everytime i read. not CR level but still *screams* ABH and OTB are masterpieces truly, they read like a movie?? like they’re action packed and so much plot is happening, multiple times while reading i was like “wow this needs to be on screens” bc its just that exciting. regulus is THE badass icon in OTB truly, scarier than cr!reg🤭 personally ive avoided choices bc canonical deaths are my enemy #1 (and i dont like the cheating fic thing either), so when u said james kept reg’s quaffle i needed a moment😭🔫 the general opinion on this fic is spot on how you described tbh, very controversial i’d recommend reading in the order of just lovers-AHB-OTB. those three (and CR duh) are the best jegulus reads in my experience and they give you 3 different versions of them, yk happy in hogwarts, sad heist au, badass canon divergent. and also since AHB is a SADSAD fic, so i would sandwich it between two happier fics for mental health reasons😂✌️

I love Jegulus, it became the blood that runs through my veins. But I do wanted to comment that in the Jegulus fandom there is also (obviously not everyone, just some weird people) hate directed at Lily. In some works her character is just to produce harry and then that's it, or they just use her as a stereotypical girl who steals James from Reggie. And in theory I guess there is nothing wrong with that but it's how her character is handled that saddens me. The fandom of the marauders is supposed to be a safe space, and seeing so much hate that it's actually ridiculous directed at some characters because they don't like the ship is just baffling... Yes I'm a Jegulus die hard fan but I will always defend my girl Lily. (That's why I also love Jegulily haha) Loved the videoooo, tysm for your hard work!
With three ships that are very popular in this universe that I find very adorable sometimes is Jegulus (right person wrong time) Marauders Darry (forced enemies) Harry Potter Scobus (soulmates) Next gen How I see, it is a Potter after two failed attempts, finding their true love within someone from the Black family. I just wanted to mention that because you kept mentioning Darry and I’m like oh there’s one more that is similar.
I feel like Only the Brave and Choices are good ending/bad ending variants of each other. I’ve read both and the vibes are very similar, but the outcomes are extremely different with the only turning point being regulus not dying in the cave, and jily in Only the Brave not getting as serious (ha) as it does in Choices (harry comes from a one night stand as a result of the war stress rather than from a functioning marriage). Both are very good though!
I did cry multiple times! But! it is also very good and lowkey morally interesting and thought provoking. I think people who dislike it because of James’ moral characterization just aren’t willing to consider that he might be an imperfect character. Plus it reinforces what we see of him in canon with snape’s worst memory and i think choices does a really good job with thematics and moral quandaries and such! so even though it is painful i would still recommend lol

Thanks to your videos and some fan films, I discovered the character of James from a completely new side... To be honest, I disliked (hated) him for a long time earlier because of his bullying towards Severus, because I myself was subjected to such an attitude at school from specific "golden" people, and James was strongly associated with them. But does understanding and discovering these new sides of him feel like growing up? It's like I grew out of blind hatred and realized it right now, at the age of 21. I also remember that I am not really as good as I want to appear or think of myself through this introspection...

Talking about Choices Choices is very sad and yes, many people make bad desicions but that's why it's called Choices, that's the summary of the fic. They talk about making choices or accidents. One thing that a lot of people say about the fanfic is that it's unfair for Lily. And yes it is but like I said, the hole fic is sad and unfair. No one is happy. And something I have to point out is that I think James in this fanfic is poly but dosen't know what that is and no one understands it. Yes he handels it the wrong way, he makes bad CHOICES but again, that's the point. He literally says "but I love you both". Regulus, obviously not a good person but what did Lily and James say in the fanfic? Right. "I don't think Regulus was a good person" -Lily "Yes.. he wasen't. But he really fucking wanted to be." -James It's a canon compliand fic, it's sad and it destroys you in a beautiful way. It is really hard to read and many people needed to take longer breaks from reading it. The trigger warnings are to be taken seriously and the fic will always hurt me. But at the same time it will always be importand to me and to a lot of others, the representation in the fic was hard and painful but good written. And people felt seen in the fic. I will be honest here, I don't understand why so many hate the fanfiction. If anyone can tell me why, please do. And for anyone who read the fic: Boo ..

I have read Crimson Rivers, Only the Brave, Just Lovers, Art Heist Baby, (and more less popular ones like pink lemonade, whatever happened to the young young lovers, although the wind, mastermind, teach them how to dream, pathalogical people pleaser, kill your darlings, etc) and although ive read several fics with them I just dont get it tbh 😭 i read most of these for the background ships. Honestly, the writing of the fics is incredible, but I just personally prefer Jily :,) i rlly want to love jegulus, but im actually very neutral to it
So, DISCLAIMER: I never finished Choices. I don't know how it ends or anything. I did read fairly far, though, so since you mentioned not being sure why some people dislike it, here's some opinions of mine. No disrespect meant to the author or the fans of the fic, btw, I don't hate it or anything, I just don't have a lot of time for reading, so I'm really picky about what I spend that time on. The biggest thing for me was that it felt... subtly victim-blame-y? I hope not on purpose, but like... Regulus is a child going through a lot of abuse in this fic, and I got the feeling he was being sorta side-eyed for not getting out of his family situation on his own? For example, there's this scene early on where the fic makes a show of giving Regulus the chance to confide in Effie and ask for help, but he lets the moment slip by, and I guess that's one of his 'choices'? And the narrative never seems particularly curious about why that might be. Because of the title, I went into the fic expecting that we'd be talking about *why* certain choices were made, but somehow it didn't really come up? The reason why James and Reggie fell for each other was also too underexplored for my tastes. Maybe especially for James, because it's his pov, and I never felt like I knew why he liked Reggie, just that he did. Don't get me wrong, there's some cute moments, but when you actually look at what happens in the story, they go from virtual strangers to just... randomly start to hang out in secret, I guess. The fact that I already ship these two had to do a lot of heavy lifting, lol. Same with the angst in this fic, tbh. The fact that their relationship will end tragically looms large throughout the story, but that's mostly because I already love these two and want them to be happy, you know? Overall, most of the characters felt rather flat and same-y, and not only because their inner lives weren't really explored a whole lot. But, the prose is fairly good, and as far as I remember the chapters were posted quickly and regularly, right around when Jegulus was getting its first boom in popularity, so it makes sense to me that a lot of people got into it. Anyway, yeah. Sorry to be sort of negative, but watching this made me remember Choices is a fic, and I had some thoughts, lol.

my parameter for reading a jegulus fic comes completely down to the author's treatment and/or view on lily within the fic. i think lily bashing for the sake of shipping jegulus sucks.
to be clear, i like this ship, i don’t have any issues with it. fuck jk rowling we write better stories anyways. the only vaild issue i’ve heard is that jegulus kind of takes away one of the only female characters central roles and further fetishizes gay men. i feel if it’s well written, this doesn’t apply but i feel that’s what a lot of the problems in the writing of these characters can fall into
hmmm.... i'm sorry but I disagree heavily with the Lily part! Jegulus doesn't take away from Lily at all. Her central role is being a mother & wife, that's the main thing we learn about her. But I see her as so much more than just a mother, like yeah she's a great mom maybe the *best* mom! But she's also her own person without relation to James or Harry. She does not have to be with James in order to be an important character in the marauders. In most jegulus fics, ships like Marylily or Pandalily are in place instead of Jily, this is writing Lily's character without any man involved. She can come into her own without James being a part of her story and I love that for her. There are some jegulus shippers who definitely are hateful towards Lily and do fetishize James and Regulus but I DON'T CLAIM THOSE MFS THEY SUCK!!! There's always gonna be bad people in any group of fandom, but i'd argue 90% of Jegulus shippers love Lily just as much as I do. Lily supremacy!!!!

As a primarily Dramione shipper who has delved into so many different ships now in the HP universe, I just can't comprehend the hate some people give to some ships. The authors of so many of these fics are so talented that I can absolutely get behind basically any ship they throw out there. Idk I just feel like these people are missing out on so much by just writing off a section of this fandom. Also I absolutely adore your videos! The way you present yourself in these makes me so happy. You have an aura of these topics being silly (which let's be real we're all collectively going feral over a bunch of made up characters who were then further made up by other people in a world where you can cast spells and fly on broomsticks) while also giving off the passion of this fandom. if you’re planning on reading more jegulus (please) im cheering for just lovers. god that fic is just so good. the skittles friendships are the best portrayals of them, jegulus are adorable and stupid. but honestly dont let it fool you, its definitely a feel good fluffy fic, but there are at least 3 big angst moments that have me on the floor everytime i read. not CR level but still *screams*
ABH and OTB are masterpieces truly, they read like a movie?? like they’re action packed and so much plot is happening, multiple times while reading i was like “wow this needs to be on screens” bc its just that exciting. regulus is THE badass icon in OTB truly, scarier than cr!reg🤭
personally ive avoided choices bc canonical deaths are my enemy #1 (and i dont like the cheating fic thing either), so when u said james kept reg’s quaffle i needed a moment😭🔫 the general opinion on this fic is spot on how you described tbh, very controversial
i’d recommend reading in the order of just lovers-AHB-OTB. those three (and CR duh) are the best jegulus reads in my experience and they give you 3 different versions of them, yk happy in hogwarts, sad heist au, badass canon divergent. and also since AHB is a SADSAD fic, so i would sandwich it between two happier fics for mental health reasons😂✌️
because i'm weird and like angst and pain i'm planning to read AHB next haha, it also has the most intriguing plot to me but i'll likely read the others too :))

I love Jegulus, it became the blood that runs through my veins. But I do wanted to comment that in the Jegulus fandom there is also (obviously not everyone, just some weird people) hate directed at Lily. In some works her character is just to produce harry and then that's it, or they just use her as a stereotypical girl who steals James from Reggie. And in theory I guess there is nothing wrong with that but it's how her character is handled that saddens me. The fandom of the marauders is supposed to be a safe space, and seeing so much hate that it's actually ridiculous directed at some characters because they don't like the ship is just baffling... Yes I'm a Jegulus die hard fan but I will always defend my girl Lily. (That's why I also love Jegulily haha)

I just wanted to mention that because you kept mentioning Darry and I’m like oh there’s one more that is similar.
I feel like Only the Brave and Choices are good ending/bad ending variants of each other. I’ve read both and the vibes are very similar, but the outcomes are extremely different with the only turning point being regulus not dying in the cave, and jily in Only the Brave not getting as serious (ha) as it does in Choices (harry comes from a one night stand as a result of the war stress rather than from a functioning marriage). Both are very good though!

I did cry multiple times! But! it is also very good and lowkey morally interesting and thought provoking. I think people who dislike it because of James’ moral characterization just aren’t willing to consider that he might be an imperfect character. Plus it reinforces what we see of him in canon with snape’s worst memory and i think choices does a really good job with thematics and moral quandaries and such! so even though it is painful i would still recommend lol

I absolutely love "The black Sparrow" by theideaofsarcasm and "whatever happend to the young young lovers" by georgia_sk. Both follow trope of Regulus surviving the cave incident and living with marauders (even if he is a prick about it). Both a jegulus fics!!
Thanks to your videos and some fan films, I discovered the character of James from a completely new side... To be honest, I disliked (hated) him for a long time earlier because of his bullying towards Severus, because I myself was subjected to such an attitude at school from specific "golden" people, and James was strongly associated with them. But does understanding and discovering these new sides of him feel like growing up? It's like I grew out of blind hatred and realized it right now, at the age of 21.
I also remember that I am not really as good as I want to appear or think of myself through this introspection...

Talking about Choices
Choices is very sad and yes, many people make bad desicions but that's why it's called Choices, that's the summary of the fic. They talk about making choices or accidents. One thing that a lot of people say about the fanfic is that it's unfair for Lily. And yes it is but like I said, the hole fic is sad and unfair. No one is happy. And something I have to point out is that I think James in this fanfic is poly but dosen't know what that is and no one understands it. Yes he handels it the wrong way, he makes bad CHOICES but again, that's the point. He literally says "but I love you both". Regulus, obviously not a good person but what did Lily and James say in the fanfic? Right.

It's a canon compliand fic, it's sad and it destroys you in a beautiful way. It is really hard to read and many people needed to take longer breaks from reading it. The trigger warnings are to be taken seriously and the fic will always hurt me. But at the same time it will always be importand to me and to a lot of others, the representation in the fic was hard and painful but good written. And people felt seen in the fic.
I will be honest here, I don't understand why so many hate the fanfiction. If anyone can tell me why, please do.

I have read Crimson Rivers, Only the Brave, Just Lovers, Art Heist Baby, (and more less popular ones like pink lemonade, whatever happened to the young young lovers, although the wind, mastermind, teach them how to dream, pathalogical people pleaser, kill your darlings, etc) and although ive read several fics with them I just dont get it tbh 😭 i read most of these for the background ships. Honestly, the writing of the fics is incredible, but I just personally prefer Jily :,) i rlly want to love jegulus, but im actually very neutral to it

So, DISCLAIMER: I never finished Choices. I don't know how it ends or anything. I did read fairly far, though, so since you mentioned not being sure why some people dislike it, here's some opinions of mine. No disrespect meant to the author or the fans of the fic, btw, I don't hate it or anything, I just don't have a lot of time for reading, so I'm really picky about what I spend that time on.
The biggest thing for me was that it felt... subtly victim-blame-y? I hope not on purpose, but like... Regulus is a child going through a lot of abuse in this fic, and I got the feeling he was being sorta side-eyed for not getting out of his family situation on his own? For example, there's this scene early on where the fic makes a show of giving Regulus the chance to confide in Effie and ask for help, but he lets the moment slip by, and I guess that's one of his 'choices'? And the narrative never seems particularly curious about why that might be. Because of the title, I went into the fic expecting that we'd be talking about *why* certain choices were made, but somehow it didn't really come up?
The reason why James and Reggie fell for each other was also too underexplored for my tastes. Maybe especially for James, because it's his pov, and I never felt like I knew why he liked Reggie, just that he did. Don't get me wrong, there's some cute moments, but when you actually look at what happens in the story, they go from virtual strangers to just... randomly start to hang out in secret, I guess. The fact that I already ship these two had to do a lot of heavy lifting, lol. Same with the angst in this fic, tbh. The fact that their relationship will end tragically looms large throughout the story, but that's mostly because I already love these two and want them to be happy, you know?
Overall, most of the characters felt rather flat and same-y, and not only because their inner lives weren't really explored a whole lot. But, the prose is fairly good, and as far as I remember the chapters were posted quickly and regularly, right around when Jegulus was getting its first boom in popularity, so it makes sense to me that a lot of people got into it.
Anyway, yeah. Sorry to be sort of negative, but watching this made me remember Choices is a fic, and I had some thoughts, lol.

to be clear, i like this ship, i don’t have any issues with it. fuck jk rowling we write better stories anyways. the only vaild issue i’ve heard is that jegulus kind of takes away one of the only female characters central roles and further fetishizes gay men. i feel if it’s well written, this doesn’t apply but i feel that’s what a lot of the problems in the writing of these characters can fall into
hmmm.... i'm sorry but I disagree heavily with the Lily part! Jegulus doesn't take away from Lily at all. Her central role is being a mother & wife, that's the main thing we learn about her. But I see her as so much more than just a mother, like yeah she's a great mom maybe the *best* mom! But she's also her own person without relation to James or Harry. She does not have to be with James in order to be an important character in the marauders.
In most jegulus fics, ships like Marylily or Pandalily are in place instead of Jily, this is writing Lily's character without any man involved. She can come into her own without James being a part of her story and I love that for her.
There are some jegulus shippers who definitely are hateful towards Lily and do fetishize James and Regulus but I DON'T CLAIM THOSE MFS THEY SUCK!!! There's always gonna be bad people in any group of fandom, but i'd argue 90% of Jegulus shippers love Lily just as much as I do. Lily supremacy!!!!
I absolutely looooved the part where you took on the arguments against Jegulus (and absolutely destroyed them)! As a primarily Dramione shipper who has delved into so many different ships now in the HP universe, I just can't comprehend the hate some people give to some ships. The authors of so many of these fics are so talented that I can absolutely get behind basically any ship they throw out there. Idk I just feel like these people are missing out on so much by just writing off a section of this fandom.
Also I absolutely adore your videos! The way you present yourself in these makes me so happy. You have an aura of these topics being silly (which let's be real we're all collectively going feral over a bunch of made up characters who were then further made up by other people in a world where you can cast spells and fly on broomsticks) while also giving off the passion of this fandom. It's like getting to listen to a friend talk about something they absolutely adore, and everyone I know in real life just doesn't really *get* the hp fanfic thing and understands why I love it so much.
