I would like to see a full works conversion on this car. The best thing about this car is the daily driveability of it though. Great job guys! EPIC Mustang....
The '05 and up Mustangs were the nicest-looking stangs since the '69's in my opinion. The '05's actually looks very similar to the 2013's though, if you look at them. Fairly minor changes between 2005 and 2013, things like the hood strength (due to hood bulging at speed) as well as development in aerodynamics and basic looks. The 2013 GT500 of course had to feature an even stronger front fascia for 200+ mph as well as a fresh driveshaft design, but still....
I love it when rivers visit these videos. You know they get glassy eyed! If he wanted to I'm sure Tom could build the baddest pro street car with a narrowed rear and huge mickeys....that would hook.... I'm sure code red would hook better if he put some slicks on it too, remember this video was when the car was still being developed. Spinning the tires I bet this car still eats a supra alive...tire for tire!
Now that is one fun car, would like to run that at Top Gun this year..... Hell, I would enjoy driving it daily since it has that unique fuel system that gives racegas to injectors on boost demand. I can drive relaxed or in road warp drive in a single advance in the throttle.... Love this ride, Great Job again Tom Nelson, did it again.
I didn't think a Shelby could ever be a sleeper, but it's got twice the power of what it seems to have. Sweet. Can't wait to see some 1/4 runs with some big ol' slicks on the back.
Sounds NASTY! Love it!...just thought I'd make a suggestion you guys should look into picking up a lavalier microphone, it will improve you voice audio quality and help reduce the echo...Keep up the good work!
That car sounds INSANE. The sound is why I bought my Mustang GT. When I wanna go fast though I get into my 9 second MITSUBISHI 4 cylinder that probably cost 1/10 the money. 10,000 RPM's at 40 + pounds of boost is FUN!!!!
Notice on minute 8.48 on the video there is a black and white police car going behind code red when he was burning rubber, that was great stuff right there.
@1vdn992 the Code Red, as Mr. Tom Nelson stated, is twin injected......Also, the Ford GT has dry sump for only one reason, its a corner car so the G forces the car will exude on itself, makes the dry sump necessary. Where as, the Code Red may be used on a track, but is not meant for it, and therefore a dry sump build was not included, nor deemed necessary. I believe there are other technical reasons for why there isn't a dry sump setup on this particular motor build.
HAHA! I love how the cop drives by at 8:47 and than you just pin it! Fords aren't really my thing but, with your engine under the hood, I would buy one in a heartbeat!
honest to god, if any1 loves cars as much as i do, then chills went down ur spine seeing this car....this is a damn work of art...i would give my right nut for this car....and if need be my left one too...great work guys your doing this shit big, and your doing it right...
I admit to being hypnotized by Tom. I find it paradoxical that 10 000 yrs. ago people rode the atmosphere in great craft powered by mercury vortex engines. Although mercury is highly toxic, if not spilled, it lasts indefinitely. When mercury boils, the bubbles form, and when they finally burst, they burst at a frequency that overcomes gravity. Or something like that.
@1970351cmustang This is the exact same engine as the Ford GT supercar(I believe). It is probably the best stock engine ever made. Aftermarket tuners have found over the years that a stock Ford GT engine can be boosted and the internals are reliable up to 1500hp. The only thing needing modification is the clutch, it's only rated at 800hp. So this engine needs no internal modifications. It is a beast. The Heffner Ford GT1000TT uses 18psi(1100hp). So this is probably similar.
@1vdn992 Okay. Thanks for the information about the engine differences. The only thing incorrect is the Heffner 1100hp Ford GT does run on pump gas. Car & Driver did a test of tuner cars but required they run on pump gas.
Tom, you turned into a mythological engine God, but for real!..hehe, You are building jet fighters for the ground. The time and tech into your engine packages are what us car lovers dream about! Brother, in my life time, the only way I'd be able to visit your shop would be is the big LOTTO win dream!, hey, ya never know?!, a Nelson twin turbo big block in a 4 seater sand rail!?? Pinch me, cause' thats where I would put one of those monsters to work; offroad!..
@sirlonghair the coyote is basicly a new design. it has different 4 valve heads and is a much better motor. the coyote and the 5.4 dont share anything really. the 5.0 is the best mod motor from ford yet.
To bad the 2013-2014 Shelby 1000 built by Shelby American (with the 5.8L c.i. 4V engine) isn't 50 State Street Legal (I live in California with the most Strictest Smog Laws!)! But I wouldn't might mind having a engine like this in a Custom Built 69 Shelby GT500!...God Bless!
david freiburger (editor of Hot Rod magazine) nearly got nailed for street racing in the Crusher Camaro by just doing burnouts in the alley behind the Hot Rod magazine shop for a photo shoot after they turned the Crusher into a late 70's style street machine.
Just curious.. how do you know that's the reason? I haven't payed much attention to the 5.4 in awhile but if I'm correct, Hennessey and others have gotten 2000hp out of one..so just trying to figure out where your coming from. Tom is bar none but his experience seems mainly with LS based engines and perhaps inexperience with the particular Ford mod motor would explain the R&D. Thoughts?
@iwant2partywitu He meant four valves per cylinder. If you watch all his videos, he screws up a lot when he's talking. But still, he's clearly a genius.
@CadillaccJ Yup passing cars like they're standing still on the 118 at about 5:30, and that's devonshire and winnetka at 8:45. Wish I could see this thing on the road haha
@1vdn992 That's true but the corvette holds 2 people the mustang can hold 2 times as many as the corvette not 3 times more than the vette. The back seats in the mustang and the Camaro alike aren't meant to really be used. I don't even come close to fitting I'm 6'5". Its that way in my 70 fastback and my new 2011 5.0
@sirlonghair the 5.4 in the gt500 is the same motor thats in the ford gt supercar. its just a bigger version of the 5.0 but the gt500 5.4 has a eaton supercharger stock and has forged internals built to handle boost and makes 550hp in stock form. since the new 5.0 is out now i think they will redo the 5.4 gt500 motor cause the 5.0 is a great performer with a few mods so it will hurt gt500 sales . i see them goin with a new gt500 setup very soon.
@BLACKLACDTS would the coyote have square exhaust ports because he talks about the header flanges going from square to round and wen he mentioned that he states 4 valve is the 5.4 a 4 valve? and @ 08:02 in letters is says 4 cam 32 valve? I wasn't aware the 5.4 had 32 valve and quad cams
To Asambi's Comment "Nissans can run 1000hp with only 2.6L", A dyno cannot tell how a car drives on the road, how fast the turbo takes to come on after you put the throttle down... 5.4L Is going to give much more usable Torque than a 2.6L made to run 1000hp, that gets beaten by Camrys from a standing start. Nice Car guys, Much respect, what music is that in the background?
Here after the new Code Red was announced
this is the best video Tom has ever made
Tom continues to amaze us all the car could not be any cooler
Gear selectable boost is a brilliant idea. A big clutch saver too.
I would like to see a full works conversion on this car. The best thing about this car is the daily driveability of it though. Great job guys! EPIC Mustang....
I love it! Now it time to do a BIG BLOCK SEMI-HEMI Ford big ci! Great job!
Love the sound of this engine.
That Mustang sounds insane

Gary seems awesome, thanks for the video NRE!
I love it when rivers visit these videos. You know they get glassy eyed! Just seen the 2022 code red came to RUclips and here I am scratching my head as to why they waited so long to bring this out.? Almost identical.
Now that is one fun car, would like to run that at Top Gun this year..... Hell, I would enjoy driving it daily since it has that unique fuel system that gives racegas to injectors on boost demand. Another amazing car from NRE, no surprises there. Could you imagine a Chip Foose designed car with your motor.
that the sickist production cobra ever! i'm in aw and amazement.
8:44 anyone else notice that cop!!!! HAHAHAHAH
Mitch Matley yes lol
YES the standing Mile with all warmup attempts leading to the final all out run hmmmm would make a killer video :)... JUST a thought. Cant wait.
nelson best engine builder hands downs..
Sounds NASTY! Love it!...just thought I'd make a suggestion you guys should look into picking up a lavalier microphone, it will improve you voice audio quality and help reduce the echo...Keep up the good work!
I love how at 8:45 the cop passes by and this guy just lights em up =D
Hats off Tom! Very unique build as always!
i have NEVER heard or seen anything compareable. This is just awesome.
One day, when i have enough money, i'll order you guys to build me a car, haha.
The best sounding powertrain I have ever heard.
what an awesome exhaust tone, well done.
all u need to know that nelson is working on a cobra! u know big # are happening and the build is the best of the best!
What a beast. This motor is amazing
"Its wrecking the tires at 80mph in 3rd gear...and we don't even use boost yet!"
Best quote yet :)
Incredible sounding car.... Love the music choices in all your videos too, whats the name of this track?
@1vdn992 the Code Red, as Mr. Tom Nelson stated, is twin injected......Also, the Ford GT has dry sump for only one reason, its a corner car so the G forces the car will exude on itself, makes the dry sump necessary. 8:46 Cop Car. This is like my 15th video of Nelson's builds. Some amazing stuff...
HAHA! I love how the cop drives by at 8:47 and than you just pin it! Fords aren't really my thing but, with your engine under the hood, I would buy one in a heartbeat!
Wow, that car is a beast. I want one.
honest to god, if any1 loves cars as much as i do, then chills went down ur spine seeing this car....this is a damn work of art...i would give my right nut for this car....and if need be my left one too...great work guys your doing this shit big, and your doing it right...

Solid performance...great RnD to make a quality product.
Sick motor and car ! Wish you could get nelson motors out here in Greece !!
High tech stuff that is the wave of Hot-Rods in the future!!! Way to go guys!!
Ahhhh back when we had a beautiful manual and live rear axle. Pure chaos
Tom stated that this engine was capable of over 1,500 hp. I'd Imagine the 5.8L would top out somewhere around 1,600-1,700 hp on race gas
9:00 Look at the asphalt. Tom has been here another time!
@1970351cmustang This is the exact same engine as the Ford GT supercar(I believe). It is probably the best stock engine ever made. @seroyer2 the stock cobra runs bout 65K then the package is 100K so the car is 165+
The Fuel system, is the same exact set up as in the Hennesey Venom Gt, it automatically goes to a higher hp fuel when the boost is right.
This is the most badass street mustang ever
the future of power, today... nelson racing
@1vdn992 Okay. Thanks for the information about the engine differences. The only thing incorrect is the Heffner 1100hp Ford GT does run on pump gas. Car & Driver did a test of tuner cars but required they run on pump gas.
as always a beautiful build.
You guys are freaking awesome thanks for the video
The best engine ever built for any car. PERIOD!!!!
Outstanding, damn what a beast of a car.
I don't think they ever said what size those turbos were ?
man that coyote is howlin! that thing sounds rad!
dont think thats a coyote
Tom Nelson is the young Carroll Shelby. Way ahead of his time.
what are the SAE corrected numbers, I noticed you had the STD numbers up on the in house dyno part. insane car man!! props!
Tom, you turned into a mythological engine God, but for real!..hehe, You are building jet fighters for the ground. The time and tech into your engine packages are what us car lovers dream about! @overboost1111 I have this feeling, like they know what their doing, if they're building engines, for the ford vp.
That is awesome! do you have any plans in the future for the New 5.8 Shelby gt500?
@BLACKLACDTS thank you for actually answering my question
@zanocono no quad cam means 2 cams per cylinder so 4 cams total
Damn that thing sounds good!
Thoughts?
Wow, great work!
@sirlonghair the gt500 is a 4 valve dohc 5.4.
@iwant2partywitu He meant four valves per cylinder. If you watch all his videos, he screws up a lot when he's talking. But still, he's clearly a genius.
Cool project!
Impressive - How high ist the gas consumption?
@MarcelE85EG It's a dual cam per head and 4 valves per cylinder.
This is awesome, does anyone know how many of these code reds were made and sold? i can't find any info on them.
@BLACKLACDTS that is the origin of the 5.4(thank you,eye opener) but what did they do different in the Coyote
nelson is a super hero i must say....i will own one of these i am telling u!!!!!!!! :-|...i must own some that he has built!!!
did you just join in with this code red with ford? or has this been in the making all along?
@99ina45 it is a stock block. just with twin turbo twin cooling, twin gastanks
love the shirt and the car!
that things just flies!!!
Do you guys run Big Stuff 3? Are you still going thru factory pcm?
great video, enjoy the use of background music . can you inform us of band name and music title
@CadillaccJ Yup passing cars like they're standing still on the 118 at about 5:30, and that's devonshire and winnetka at 8:45. Wish I could see this thing on the road haha
What has been done to the bottom engine of the 5.4 to handle the power and how many pounds of boost is it running?
awesome the first 30 seconds
@1vdn992 That's true but the corvette holds 2 people the mustang can hold 2 times as many as the corvette not 3 times more than the vette. Cool fram bro
I'm not a Ford guy, but holy shit is this a sweet ride! This has to go for $100k
will the code red come in the present 2011 body style? and will nelson be workin his magic on the new amazing 5.0 coyote ford powerplant?
MOTHER OF CARS
I think I need one!
im stoned right now watching this. wicked
Look at that guy's hair flyin at 8:27 lmao
@sirlonghair the 5.4 in the gt500 is the same motor thats in the ford gt supercar. its just a bigger version of the 5.0 but the gt500 5.4 has a eaton supercharger stock and has forged internals built to handle boost and makes 550hp in stock form. since the new 5.0 is out now i think they will redo the 5.4 gt500 motor cause the 5.0 is a great performer with a few mods so it will hurt gt500 sales . i see them goin with a new gt500 setup very soon.

My boss got a ride in this car when we were visiting Tom's shop. When they got back I think my boss had to change his shorts.
i wish i lived next door to this shop! lol
do they ever run these cars with times or against other things or just spin tires while they talk about the cars?
Best Shelby :)
