    Sammy Sosa is the reason I fell in love with the game and the Cubs. The 90s lore of baseball, especially with the innocence of a kid is something you can’t replace. Especially with my old man…

    It’s ok to acknowledge that Sammy did wrong and also ok to be happy that he’s back in the Cubs family.
    Welcome back Sammy, go Cubs go!

    I grew up in the Sammy era, and i can't feel anything but awkward happy over the situation. As a kid, i couldn't really grasp the implications of what he did, it was only "HE'S SAMMY FREAKING SOSA!" As an adult looking back....yeah it was messed up and wrong. But trying to sweep away all that childhood love and admiration is hard, if not impossible, I don't care who you are.
    And I'll admit to my own hypocrisy. When i hear the names Altuve, Correa, Bregman, Astros, I'm ready to start swinging. I'll double down on those feelings when it comes to Correa. I think everyone involved in that needs to be ripped out of baseball and forgotten about.
    But as far as it goes with Sammy, I'm happy and excited and I REALLY wish I could be there at the convention. Also shocked Ricketts finally allowed this to happen.

    I am perfectly fine with not getting Lazardo. He is a good pitcher, but I want to see someone who has better health.
    If the Cubs turned him into a closer or something, maybe. I just don't see him as a starter pitching 180+ innings. I don't see him capable of staying healthy like that.
    We don't really need a starter right now anyway. We need bullpen help. We need a backup infielder.
    If we need a starter, we get this person at the trade deadline.
    I just like the idea better of Brown and Horton having a chance to be a starter. Assad can be that long man/spot starter in the pen.
    We have two guys who are highly regarded prospects that we need to see what they could be at the Major League level.
    As for an Ace, who says we don't have that guy right now? We have no idea what kind of seasons Imanaga and Steele could have. They are both damned good starters.
    Sure, we might need one at the trade deadline. I just like the idea of investing in the bullpen right now and seeing what our rotation can do.
    This way, if the Cubs have to go over the tax again, at least they do so with a damn good reason and the pen is also good enough for a post season run.
    I don't know if I like spending 11 million a year for a guy who isn't a closer. I know it isn't my money, just saying...I think it would be better to spend 14-16 million a year split between 2 guys for the pen if it isn't a closer. Like 6 million for one, 8 million for the other per year. Add an infielder who is worth 5-6 million per year capable of backing up Shaw and playing other spots in the infield in case of injury and I think the team has that depth needed.
    Let's see what they can do. Maybe use the left over money to sign a DH if they need to trade Suzuki because he doesn't want to be a DH. There are still some great bats out there available, via trade or free agency that can do a lot with that spot.
    Leave yourself a little wiggle room below the tax for a reliever if needed, go over if you need to trade for an Ace at the deadline.

    I'm a veryyyyyyyyyyy longtime loyal cubs fan! and I'm talking since I went to my first game back in 1966! the cubbies have had a gang of FA's some worked out, the rest were bustsss. What irks me is that an FA who was lights out with their old team comes to chicago and becomes a bust!! look at dansby swanson (The White version of Jason Heyworth). so I don't expect the dude from houston to play out like a Juan Soto who just added +9/10 wins for the Mets. Da cubs need to be built for May, June, July before the AS break. then be mentally ready to play REAL games in Sept. If they just signed Swarber alone he was +6/7 wins along with bellinger when he is healthy +5 games. they need a stud starter hey take the plunge and get trevor bauer?? +7games and have a NAST BOYZS 7th, 8th, 9th bullpen.

    Cubs will not give up any of top 6 prospects to marlins. That's why it's dead. Marlins want someone cubs won't give.
    Mariners WANT to trade Castillo but also Logan Gilbert. Cubs want Gilbert. They have what it takes to get him. Mariners botched extension talks. Imagine Alcantara, Assad or Wicks, Hoerner or Triantos, and Birdsell or Jaxon W for Logan Gilbert? That is a haul and it wouldn't hurt the cubs at all. Now you are playoff ready.

    • @markbouquet1316
      @markbouquet1316 9 дней назад

      Agreed. It’s sickening that people even think Bonds is the home run king. I will stay with Ruth and I hate the American League and am 60 years old and I still have memories of 1969 watching games with my grandfather.
      But Babe Ruth only batted every 5th day for his first 5 years. He played in the dead ball era and traveling by train everywhere you went had to wipe people out. But Ruth never played in any other season than a 150 game season. So he played less games, he didn’t play during the live ball that just popped off the bat. And as I already stated, he was a pitcher with Boston his first 5 seasons where he only batted on days he pitched.
      How can he not still be considered the home run king still? He wasn’t even in shape in his career, he hit against pitchers that had the ball so scuffed up and pitchers throwing spit balls, if they go into the Hall of Fame, there has to be an asterisk. The best hitter of that era to me and I can’t stand the team was Frank Thomas because he did all of his with what God gave him. I can’t imagine what he would have done had he been on the steroids.

    Sammy Sosa and Mark McGuire was the reason baseball came back after the 94 strike. The summer of 98 was a great one. The home run chase, the Cubs getting into the playoffs Kerry Woods 20 strikeout game. He gave us more good memories and made us happy than bad ones. I didn’t care if he did steroids. The steroid era was back in those days. I think Tom Ricketts ego got the better of him in this one. But for me and many other fans no apologies needed from Sammy. He probably won’t make the baseball Hall of Fame. But he should be welcome into the Cubs family.

    • @WolfsDE
      @WolfsDE 9 дней назад

      I think many of us did need that apology. Not so much for the PED's, but more for the corked bat and the way things went down at the end. I think many of us did need that. It makes things easier to forgive when an acknowledgement of being in the wrong happens.

    • @Paul-815
      @Paul-815 9 дней назад

      He’s a liar and a cheat. Don’t forget about the corked bat that he used by “accident.” Another perspective is that he ruined baseball.

    • @WolfsDE
      @WolfsDE 9 дней назад

      @@Paul-815 He wasn't the only one though.
      Clemans, Bonds, Canseco, Palmeiro, ARod and at least 200 other guys were doing it. So let's not forget that part of it as well. He wasn't the only one.
      We suspect that Piazza did. We will never know on guys like Jim Thome, Albert Belle and Frank Thomas if they did or not.
      There are guys in the Hall of Fame right now who could have done it and never got caught.
      So I don't know if they ruined baseball or not. I know it hurt like hell to go through all of that stuff.
      At some point, do we give him a chance to redeem himself or not? To make amends.
      I think we do. He is never going into the Hall of Fame. That is the price he paid for it. That many others paid for it.
      He says he is sorry. Let's see if he really is. Let's see if he is serious about trying to be better. If he shows his ass again, it is goodbye for good. If he is serious about being better though, then I can give him that chance.
      Steroids go back to the 1960's being used in sports. It started with Football players. I suspect it is still a problem in the NFL that goes ignored. It probably is a major problem in the NBA right now.
      Just saying, he wasn't the only one and we need to keep that perspective. We have no real idea of who used and who didn't.

    • @WolfsDE
      @WolfsDE 9 дней назад

      Mark, as much as I loved him as a player, wasn't always the nicest guy either. Every player has an ego. Sometimes it gets in the way of understanding where some people are at. Not saying Sosa didn't make his share of mistakes. He did. I just think that failing to understand each other wasn't a one sided street.
      Mark belongs in the Hall of Fame in my book. You don't lead all of MLB in total hits for a decade and not make the Hall. The only one to not be in the Hall aside from Mark Grace who did it, Pete Rose. We know why he isn't in the Hall of Fame.
      But Mark has a really contentious relationship with the Cubs as well if I understand things correctly. Still is mad about not getting resigned before he left for Arizona. Has had personal issues since then.
      Now, I don't know if things have softened up and he has been back to the Cubs convention or around anything Cubs related. I haven't heard anything about him being around.
      I hope one day it will change. He deserves to be in the team Hall of Fame, he deserves to be in the Baseball Hall of Fame wearing a Cubs hat.
      Every player has an ego though. They wouldn't make it to MLB if they didn't.
      It is communication they probably were not the best at.
