As a naturally curly lady, I completely understand Nahla’s “straighter hair/less volume” phase. We all go through it! Some healthy ways to stretch/straighten her curls and minimize her volume would be french/dutch braids, flat twist, or the banding method when it’s wet/damp and letting it dry before taking them out. Also, using Dream Coat WOW spray when flat ironing and wrapping her hair at night will help with the longevity! Hope it helps!

I’m a Lifetime Weight Watchers member but through my weight loss journey I continued to fall off the Weight Watchers wagon. My problem was too much indulging in the wrong foods.
Fast forward to today. I got very serious about my diet and health and I’ve kept 50 lbs off all by myself by watching my carb intake. I have diabetes 2 now and being overweight was not an option for me due to my disease and AC1. But the culprit to weight gain are those yummy carbs. I’ve been able to adapt to my new way of eating by being more conscious of my sugar intake but especially the carbs.
I’ve never been able to keep my weight off before until I became serious and determined. I’m 68 years old and was struggling with my weight gain and loss since I was 30 years old.
Half wigs and headband wigs are the best way to go. Easy and she can protect her natural hair and avoid all the glue from a lace front.
I love seeing how you and Nahla interact, it reminds me of how me and my mom are.

Yesss Sarah! I loved your moment about WW. I started in October and it truly does feel different the WW way, it shifts your mindset in such a positive way. I still have a looong way to go apparently because I decided to take this week off lol, but you have me motivated to get back to it and just stick with it through Christmas honestly, so thanks girl! Yes ma'am I always smash the clove then cut it up . I love garlic too . Cover a whole piece or clove with olive oil wrap in foil and put in oven till it's soft , soooo delicious.

Listening to Nahla talk about her hair I kept thinking “aww the life of a young teen Black girl” LOL! We’ve all been there babe. Try flat twist, and other protective styles for in-between styles. I personally LOVE her curls, they’re so pretty. But until she feels the same way it doesn’t matter what we think.
Making peanut brittle is so easy!!! My husband likes to pull it so it’s nice and thin.
Has nahla ever used taffy whip by surface? It's really sticky going on but it really keeps hair in place without volume. I also use devacurl gel which I love.

Peanut brittle was my grandpa’s favorite so I used to make it for him a lot when I was younger. It’s pretty easy and quick to make.
Try doing a French braid twist out and I always wash my bonnet everytime I wash my sheets which is usually every time I wash my hair but I don’t wash my hair that often 😂 as I color treated curly girly that usually has her hair straightened

Love seeing the old kids videos sometimes you forget how small and silly they are until you look back and im glad you have these most dont.I have some of my daughter but back then videoing and taking pictures wasnt a thing but i have enough to see and show her how young she looked and how silly she acted .I wanted to try the Christmas crack i have seen it everywhere.
I use Pattern gel and that helps define my hair. Maybe that will give less volume
A lot of the ninja stuff has dehydrating setting’s definitely check out if yours has them

It’s definitely a struggle being a mom of a curly girl. We do braids for my daughter every so many months more in fall and winter and I guess spring but not in the summer because of all the swimming they just don’t last. We try to come up with different hairstyles or some times it’s curly pony tail (puff) or space buns. She doesn’t like wearing her fro out at school and I haven’t figured out why because it’s beautiful! We will get through this! We also straighten like once a year lol
Hey Sarah, For Nahla's curly days, try Combat Gel. It is supposed to be a really strong hold and it is thick. For her straight days, try the Smooth-it brush from L'ange. I'm not affiliated with them but I do like them. My hair is very coarse, red, and gets frizzy quite easily. The brush works great and you can't burn yourself. I can straighten my hair with the brush and it lasts for days. It is also faster than flat irons so less heat damage. Love you and your family!

She has a mixture of my husband’s tight kinky curls and my straight dead hair 😆. She actually loves her hair curly but it gets extremely frizzy no matter how many products we put in it. Random but what did you end up doing with all your plants outside? Did you leave them in all the pots to see if they’ll regrow next year? or did you rip them all

most of them died off in the fall so I yanked them out. I did leave the strawberries and other berry plants, hoping they come back. And I left some onions out there... who knows what's going to happen to those haha

wanna hear a Louisiana secret? Most people who live from Baton Rouge to New Orleans don't use celery when cooking. We use onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Your jambalaya looked good for your first time. I don't always put chicken in mine either. if you want to do a quick, easy jambalaya use a box of Zatarain. i just use a little less water than the box asks for. like if it asks for 3 and 3/4 cups of water. I use 3 1/2 cups. even less water when i put chicken in it. also, idk if you have it. but Tony's seasoning is key to a great jambalaya.
I used to make those boxes of zatarain's so much when my kids were little, they loved it

I feel Nahla on the hair front. I had naturally curly hair for 34 years and last November I went bone straight with a keratin treatment and it made my daily life so much better 😢
My mom was sad for me because she loves my curls but they are SO HIGH MAINTENANCE! I went from having drawers filled with curl products to 2-4 product for my straight hair.
After 6 months of growth I went back in and got a “cold smoothing keratin treatment” which basically tamed my frizz and left my curls practically intact. Is my hair dry? Yes. Do I regret the treatment NOPE!
Do miss my curls when I travel to humid places tho because my curls would THRIVE in the environment!
Give that color WOW spray a try for Nahlas hair. I used it for a while before getting my hair straightened and it helped with frizz. There are 2 types one for straight and one for curly hair, both activated with heat.

My family does egg fights each Easter where we all have an egg with our name on them…. Then we bump the points together where one ‘wins’ and one loses. Loser has to eat their boiled egg and winner goes into a winners bracket against other strong eggs. Never saw another family do this until seeing my big fat greek wedding (we aren’t Greek, we are German)

Have you had much success with the weight loss, do you find its really slow or hard with WW? Considering doing it.
It’s slow, but it isn’t hard like at all. When I would extreme calorie restrict I could lose 30-40lbs in like 3 months. On WW, it’s more like 10-15 in the same time frame. That being said, I don’t feel any real restrictions so I don’t need “cheat” days or anything. I also don’t obsess over what I’m going to eat, which I used to always do.

My sister says its the only thing that works for her. My adult nephew tried it but he really struggled logging his foods- his doctor suggested Whole30 and he’s been very successful :)

Hey Sarah! Do you guys have dominican salons there? They do a hell of a blowout for thicker/coarse hair. If Nahla got a blow out once a month and wrapped it at night and avoided getting it wet, it would last about 3 weeks.
I don't think I've ever seen a Dominican salon around here but I'm sure there has to be one

Have you ever tried using a heatless curls on nala's hair because if you put the hair into it while it's wet let it dry in that position it should give you some big soft curls and take away a lot of her kinky curls because I used to do that to my hair when I didn't want to take the time to dry it or to do the damage of using the straightener it may be kind of hard with the links that her hair is right now but it might be worth trying that way she can get a softer more like blowout style curl to it instead of her very kinky tight curls it may or may not work but it might be worth trying for her but I would say not to do it when it's super wet make sure it's like about half or more dry and because she has such a tight curl pattern make sure that her hair is wrapped around a large soft heatless curls and to make sure it's pulled tight around it that way it doesn't have any way of making its own curl pattern in between where you're trying to force it to curl
maybe we'll try that out over Christmas break and see how it works

I’ve been using Mounjaro for the last couple of months and I’m down 18lbs. I already ate healthy, now I just eat less of it. Losing weight and replacing food with healthier habits is hard, no matter what you use for tools. I just wish it had been around when I was your age.

@@sarahhhrae no, not really! I’m at 7.5 on the injections now and mild nausea a couple of hours after the shot has been the worst of it. Also, to clarify, I meant that it’s great you are pursuing this now, not that you should explore any weight loss aids! 💖
