Just a grumpy 60+ y.o. dude here…I was trying to be nonchalant about your announcement, but after seeing your video of the birds (some spectacular videos) and hearing that Sibelius Violin Concerto (a favorite)… then to see you listening via Doppler to its heartbeat with COMPLETE AND UTTER HAPPINESS…I became entirely choked up…and then there were tears. You did it. You got me. I never saw it coming.

Huge congratulations to you both! We did the West Highland Way while I was 6.5 months pregnant and it was an amazing trip. Our little boy is now 17 months and we bought his first pair of hiking boots today ❤

@@Piman1607 Because there's a big difference in what, for example, a 13 month old and a 20 month old can do. Both 1 year olds, but very different in terms of ability / interaction / understanding, etc. They develop so much from month to month. I think most people work in months until their kids' are about 2, but there are no rules, really. Good question though!
Congratulations! One of the best things about being a mom is watching my son explore the world and seeing my favorite outdoor places (trails, parks, playgrounds) for the first time again through his eyes! I wish you the same joy and delight!

You are going to love being a mom! I can tell that you already do!! My four babies all grew up hiking (now ages 6-13) and they still love it. I've changed many a diaper on trail! My fav baby gear... Ergobaby carrier, Stonz mits and booties, organic "suck pads" for the carrier straps, waterproof diaper changing pad, and plastic toy "links" to keep toys, nuks, sippy cups, etc from dropping. I loved front carrying my babies (baby facing me) with my husband's fleece on and just zipping them up in there with me when it was chilly. I learned a lot from the book Babes in the Woods by Jennifer Aist (published in 2010 when my first was born) and also love the book Let Them Be Eaten by Bears (such a great title!). I hope you don't mind the suggestions... I'm just so excited for you! Your baby is blessed to have you for a mom.
I love the background music choices. Sibelius Violin concerto.. Sibelius' ode (goodbye) to the violin which he so wanted to play professionally, more so than a composer.

Ahh Dixie, huge congratulations 💚I watched you hike the AT years ago, way before I started my own channel and I'm so happy to see you so settled and becoming a Mum (or should I say Mom!) You will make a wonderful mother! My son is the best thing that ever happened to me.. these lil people, they really open your eyes as to what's important and teach you so many things without even trying. Although he's 12 now and tall as me so not 'lil' any more. It goes crazy fast.

Many years ago I was watching a TV show with my mother. It had a happy ending. I then asked my mother "What was the happiest day of her life"? She answered without delay. "The day you were born, my life was complete". My mom was 34 when I was born!
My son's birth day was my favorite too. He now shares it with me (he's 19, his decision) so we get aq cake and b-day dinner :)

In your journeys across Florida, consider stopping at Sanibel Island and visiting the Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge. I've seen storks there for sure, but there are a ton of other migratory birds that stop over on the island. Lots of birdwatching opportunities. May the stork bring you a beautiful baby! :)

We love hiking in Scotland, where we spent our 25th Anniversary last year. The Scots are very friendly folk, love to hike and generally love Americans, especially when they are hikers. It is my favorite place in the world to go for a walk.
