Hi, my name is Jen I am 44 and live in Connecticut with my husband and 8 year old son. I am a stay-at-home Mom and full-time RUclipsr with a degree in business with a focus in marketing. Before leaving work when my son was born, I was a commercial lender at a bank. I also worked at Sephora and Macy's doing visual merchandising.
I have dry skin with some hyperpigmentation and fine lines. I love natural makeup looks but occasionally go outside my comfort zone a little bit. On my channel you'll find lots of videos about drugstore makeup and drugstore dupes (those are my favorites to film!) but I also review high-end makeup as well. You're the only RUclipsr who's been talking about the economy, and this video is very welcome in the middle of the Sephora sale push. My heating and electric bills are sky high this year along with groceries and gas. Black Friday is right around the corner and I'm saving my money for that because I know I'll get better deals.

Like you mentioned better sales elsewhere. I’m not buying tons of makeup anymore. It’s just silly at this point. Disclaimer: imho

Thank you Jen for taking a stand against the human rights abuses of Shein. I know that ethical consumption is really hard and to some extent many companies aren’t doing all that they could be, but what we know about Shein is truly awful and the small amount of power that we have with our money should be used thoughtfully.
I love that you were open to new information about a brand/product you enjoyed. Ethics over consumerism is sadly a pretty rare choice amongst RUclipsrs.

There are always plenty of other (and better) places to purchase makeup than Sephora. We have more makeup options these days than ever before.
Yes many many of us watch for ideas on what to buy, wish I was one of them. I mainly watch to see what I have already and can use to copy the new looks. Thank you!
Exactly…. Most influencers over 40 are just ads… I’ve noticed that’s all, 100% all. Laura Rae Beauty is the worst… I think she’s the nicest lady but that’s all her channel is…. There’s none like Jen that I can think of or watch… it’s getting worse by the day…never, not once have I seen a video like the one Jen did with the holiday bundle pricing 😂😂 I doubt they’ll change because they make $ with their Amazon store-and that’s fine. It supports their channel….but there no tutorials… nothing but swatches and links…. ♥️💋 I don’t want or need more crap…. Like you, i like knowing I can look and find a dupe in my ‘collection’ ♥️💋
I wanted to say I also don’t like buying anything like that from Amazon…. I got fake OPI and Essie nail polish… ( they weren’t any cheaper than normally either)also got one of those ‘Finishing Touch’ face shavers… fake. It died halfway through my first shave…😂…. Looked like Grizzly Adams on one side of my face and smooth on the other…. $20 wasted 😂😂

I love these drugstore videos! Yes I love high end makeup but I’m honestly a drugstore girl at heart and with how expensive everything is now I can’t spend $100’s on makeup or skin care. Thank you Jen for showing us these gems
You always have the best recommendations Jen! You're right it's pretty insane how much makeup has gone up but I'm grateful to brands like Essence for keeping prices low.
I love that Essence has kept their prices low too...I don't know how they do it! When I was putting this video together I thought of Elf and how a lot of the products they released this year are over $10 and I always used to think of them as being much less expensive.

Used to be even cheaper . Essence is pretty new in the American market but in Europe is been going on for a long time and its mascaras , lip liners, lipsticks and blushers are simply brilliant. All they new products they have launched now are very nice , specially the new Catrice ( essence big sister) eyeshadow palettes .
Their Pretty Natural foundation is really good. Highly recommend.
Thank you for speaking up about Shein and Sheglam. Yes, affordable products should be available, but they shouldn’t be made under inhumane conditions.
I also don’t support “clean beauty” brands. It’s marketing hype to make the consumer spend more and replace the products more frequently because of the crummy preservatives.

So many creators are complaining (rightfully) that their "clean" products are going bad very quickly. The amount of waste that causes seems to go against the "clean" companies' supposed beliefs!

Thanks for speaking out about SheIn/SheGlam. I know they're not the only exploitative brand, and there's no ethical consumerism, etc., but they make Walmart look virtuous and sustainable. And ColourPop doesn't have sweatshops.

While you're at it, though, take a look at all of the make up made in China....Elf, Wet N Wild..drug store, high end...do you think THEY treat their employees better than Shein? Not to mention the toxic crap they put in things *doesn't matter what the label says* and the quality control (or lack thereof) in China? Please....Make up people, do better. Is it really a good deal, an excellent dupe if it is made with crap and in crap, unsanitary conditions?

@@lucyclark1301 there are only so many labs producing makeup around the world so high end and drug store would come out of the same labs. Also marketing plays a huge part, and I’m not saying this is true for every brand but the ones stating ‘clean’ the actual individual ingredients may have been tested on animals but the final product isn’t, so they say their products aren’t tested on animals. I will make an effort not to buy from china.

I visited US in June and i had seen your video on those palettes from profusion and I went to Walmart and saw them so decided to get the Harvest one and wow, the quality is top notch, it is super cheap and beautiful, i highly recommend it (profusion is hard to get here in Mexico, and if we find it they only have the base collection, not these special items)
I just spent $28 on one of the Lisa Eldridge liquid eyeshadow which I regret in this terrible economy, and wish I’d known about the Moira ones! I’ll try them next , thank you 🥰

More affordable or drugstore makeup hit it out of the park in ‘22!! Thank you for all the Moira recommendations…loving their products so far, came packaged where there was no breakage(my order was even lost). The complexion products are AMAZING!!

Not only is SHEIN underpaying their workers, but a while back a lot of their clothes were tested, and there was high amounts of lead in them even the children clothing! I get the argument when people say not everyone can afford nice clothing, but thrifting is a thing and at what cost? The people who make the clothing can’t even afford the cheap clothing SHEIN makes with what their being paid. I don’t think people realize how crazy that sounds.

I"m going to echo the sentiment of others on here and thank you for continuing to share such affordable products! A lot of others are pushing the Sephora VIB sale and I'm not interested. Even on sale, a lot of those products are not affordable. I am a drugstore makeup girl and I definitely don't see that changing anytime soon! I have Moira Beauty on my list to try, as well as more products from Profusion (those liquid blushes are so good!). Now I'm putting the Essense Lip Liners and the Colourpop Super Shock Bronzer on my list as well.
I agree, SHEIN has to fix how they treat and pay there workers.

Every time I use ethereal or harvest, I’m re-blown away! They are just really special! Also, not a brand that’s typically in affordable videos but, Sydney Grace’s cream shadows are only $8 and they’re the most gorgeous, easy to use formula specifically if u have mature lids 🙌🏼

I don't have any of the Moira cream eyeshadows, but their lip oils are my holy Grail formula. I also love their exfoliating skin gel, the cream highlighters, and I'm going to try the cream blushes soon.

My under 10$ find...elf halo glow translucent loose powder. I have been using the much more expensive Nikkia Joy powder and I accidentally mixed them up one day. Could not tell the difference.

I’m so glad you showed the Moira double ended liners! I was just thinking today “what am I going to do when my Sheglam double ended brow liner is used up? I use it every day but I can’t repurchase with how things are going down with SHEIN…” and here you show a perfect replacement that’s clearly better quality too! All in one brush tip and gel liner just like my Sheglam and the color looks like a better fit for me too!

Thanks for sharing Jen. I was reading in the comments and I agree with many that we are spending less for make up and other non essentials its a fact because other essential items or products are higher milk, eggs, gas and ect. This is not counting Rent many are renting loss of income or ? then electric $ its up from last year and more. I know for me im using what I have already and im not purchasing more my only eyeshadow purchase was the Tarte Maneater I got it for my Birthday this month or last month when it came out and I got double points from Ulta so it was a double win for me. I'm just more careful about what I purchase and if I got something similar im using it. I also wanted to say thank you Jen for addressing the Shein situation I hope I spelled it right I haven't purchased from them I've seen it and now I will not since learning this im careful with my money and support because I want to give my money and business to those who take care of their own and help others not harm them and from what I've read and watched that is exactly what this Brand does and it's so 😢 😞 I'm praying others step up as well thank you again much love your way
Thank you, for saving me from myself, from that fear of missing out on the latest and greatest (and expensive) new release! You could never overwhelm, I find your content does the opposite for me. For example, even though I honestly can’t afford Lisa Eldridge liquid eyeshadow (a brand I’ve been dying to try), I can afford Moira, and can probably come out with close to the same look. And those LA Colors palettes are beautiful! I’ve got enough problems, I don’t need to continue to overspend on makeup and create another one. In Canada the prices are much higher than the US and we can find so many nice things much more affortable. From here to Christmas, I think it would be nice if you did videos SHOP MY STASH or picking up makeup blind folded. Just a way of getting people to use what we have. Yes! I just can't support them. I know there are probably a lot of other shady brands out there but SheIn is particularly terrible and worse than most. I hope that one day we won't see these kinds of human rights violations but for now we can only stop giving them money and speak up about it. 🙏🏻❤️

Absolutely agree with Shein , I never bought anything from them but I do the same with lots of companies like Apple, Zara and all its sub brands and many more . The greed makes me sick , specially in cases like as I wrote before Apple, Zara and other more expensive brands that used and abused the cheap labour hand ( more like slaves) and still their products are very expensive .
Revolution cream bronzer is great . I am, very pale and I bought the medium because they sold out the lighter one and even so when I put it in my face is so easy to blend and looks beautiful . Shame I cant get lots of those brands in England .... thanks for your videos !!
