  • Villena, Alicante - Medieval market.
    It rained.
    Lots.
This ranks "up there" as one of our favourite cultural experiences in Spain. We didn´t even manage to see the jousting/ fighting in the castle!
We toured around the streets of Villena, looking at the Artisan Market stalls. We then took a peek into the Church of Santa Maria. Magical moment there with the music from the live band.
We then took ourselves around the streets adorned with theming taking you back into the middle ages. (Almost)
We were stopped by some friendly locals- drinks poured from jugs, followed by boiled eggs.
    Random.
Notable mention for Bodega El Caracol- one of the most bizarre (but excellent) bars we have ever been in.
On our travels we bought some artisan products - home made Sobrasada- a spicy one and a sweet one flavoured with Roquefort cheese.
    Yum.
We finished with lunch at Marieta Café & Picoteo- which was excellent.
This trip was with Rosa Tours- viajesrosatours.com
This event is well worth doing this next year- we preferred it to the Orihuela Medieval market we did last year and the One we regularly do in Los Alcazares.

Hi, looked like a very quaint market, food seemed quite nice. The town had a medieval and other worldly vibe

Looked interesting. Would Villena be worth a visit even when the Medieval market wasn’t going on? Sorry about the rain that day but I heard that area could use some much needed precipitation, just not when an event is happening.

Thanks for watching. Rain is still very needed. There is a large, impressive castle here (check the castles video we did)- but we've still not managed to get in.. so we will be back. It's about an hours drive from Torrevieja...

Hi. It was on that week/ weekend. There are other medieval markets throughout Spain at different times of the year. Some are great, some are.. ok. Take a look on www.eurotourguide.com calendar to see what events are on/ coming up.
