Sagunto is great, as it's divide into two parts. You have the Port de Sagunt with it's sandy beaches, nightlife, Restraunts and so on. Then you have the more laid back old town which nestles below the awesome castle. It was 16' yesterday :-)
Congratulations, great video, as always. Next time do not miss Calp, and its "Avenida del Marisco" where you are invited to beer sangria and small tapas while you choose where to sit (or not). Just one tip: rice and citric were introduced in the XVIII century because of the agricultural revolution that increased a lot the productivity of basics as wheat. I would love to watch some similar video about Valencia, with L' Albufera, El PALMAR and all those restaurants at the island, and a long walk from their south beaches, adding it to Monforte gardens, and arts an science cty and la lonja space. Tourism office in Valencia should sponsor you.
Next time around, visit Jijona with its Christmas market and - of course - Turrón de Jijona. Don't expect a touristy town, because it is not. 25 minutes from San Juan/Campello with its 9km stretch of sandy beach, 25 minutes from Alicante and its Castillo de Santa Bárbara rising above the city. Happy to show you around :-)
Hi James, I can attest that the Costa de Sol is night and day difference with weather. Madrid winters can be really frustrating and bipolar. One year ago we were still scraping ice off the streets and cleaning up broken branches everywhere from Filomena. Here in Málaga, I hardly wear a big jacket or scarf anymore, I go hiking 2-3 times a week, and I fall in love more and more with this part of Andalucía each and every day. It’s an adjustment moving from Madrid to here at first, but it’s easily one of the best places to live in Spain, if not the world. Hope you enjoy your stay down in this part of Spain, saludos.
Where are the beat places to hike in Malaga? We visited and fell in love with the city (explored as much as we could, walking 10-20 km / day) and region pre-pandemic. We are counting down to our next trip and hope to expand into more hiking. Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have. Cheers from 🇨🇦!
So happy to see you back, and Lucia is so cute! It's true having a baby in tow is a real challenge, and it's amazing how you don't miss a step showing us how professional you are, and we still feel like family. Keep doing what you do!
James, your passion for the history of your adopted country is palpable and inspiring. The Spanish Tourism Board should issue a commemorative coin with your likeness on it. Love your vlog. By the way, a well-deserved 'enhorabuena' to you and Yoly for the birth of beautiful baby Lucia! You two must be so happy. Many blessings to your wonderful Kiwi-Spanish family.
One of your best videos! Watching you guys cope with travelling as a family instead of a couple actually boosts your appeal and grounds your experiences in a stronger sense of reality.
Ok the Spanish tourism board needs to start sponsoring you guys cos I've traveled around Spain and never been interested in Alicante, until this video lol I'm on Airbnb as we speak!
Benidorm flats + a car rental is the cheapest option, and then visit each day one of the surrounding cities and villages, Denia Xabia Calp, Altea, Alfas del Pi, Vila Joiosa, Moraira, Alacant, Jalón and many more, you will not see it all in one holiday.
Me encantan sus vídeos, me transmiten mucha felicidad auténtica y relajación. Me encanta ver la pasión que tiene James por España, ¡igual que yo! Es muy ameno ver estos vídeos. Un forte abrazo!
We visited Altea and it was beautiful. I still remember the smell of jasmine. We stayed in Alicante Town for 4 nights in November and loved there for a winter break. Cathy and Kevs x
Great video - we love the Southern Costa Blanca area, with its long coastal walks, especially outside July/ August and we visit our apartment there as often as Brexit regulations and COVID allow. Alicante city is beautiful, and we love the natural parks and salt lakes south of Alicante - especially to see the flamingoes.
This is lovely. My first choice would have been Malaga. I can't deal with that heat in summer but it would be great to see in winter. Alicante looks great too. I'd really love to experience that too. Thanks for this vlog James.
I have been to both, they're very similar looking cities actually, but Alicante is about half the size and my favourite. I had one of my favourite ever trips to Alicante, and the food is just fantastic.
I love Yoli, Yoli for president! She’s always so smiley and I’m sure it’s not just for the cameras. Love your video, just relax James, love your little babba.
We are coming to Spain in about 2 months! Your videos are very inspiring and so much fun 2 watch. Your family is beautiful and don't worry it gets much easier. I can't wait 2 get 2 Spain and see where my ancestors came from some 500 yrs ago!. Keep up the great work!!
Hi James, Yoli y Lucia many thanks for your videos. I'm 76 and have been going to Spain for 40 years and still interested to see more. Keep up the good work and remember - you will soon get beyond changing nappies!!
Stayed in benidorm 4 years ago, I found in benidorm you can experience complete opposites, either quiet times or mental times. visited Altea for a day and loved it. Cant wait to return
Hello Steven! My husband and I stayed in Benidorm 5 years ago and took a day trip to Altea for the day. We even met some young women that lived in the same city as us in North Carolina! Small world. We had a wonderful time. Trying to get back to Spain. Had to cancel when Covid hit, but we have reservations for May. Wish us luck. 😊
You two always make travel in Spain look so fun! We traveled with our babies in tow in the US. Our first we adopted as an infant. We were at a resort in NW Florida, at medical conference. My infant son used the platex bottles and the only nipple I brought for it, broke. He was hungry and I was frantic. I called the front desk and they arranged a driver to drive me 30 miles to a store so I could buy more. Disaster averted! The little ones adapt easily to travel, even camping. We took our son camping when he was 2 months old, he did great.
Love the travel vlogs. Giving me ideas for a return visit to Spain. Travelling with kids does require organisation and flexibility. Like Marcia our first family holiday was camping with an 8 month old and 3 years later we did it with 6 month old twins as well. You will probably need to allow for spare time and be prepared to rearrange your schedule. As Lucia gets older you will need to schedule things that will interest her. Not a bad thing as you will attract families as followers and you will see and do things you wouldn’t have otherwise thought of. It’s only fair if Lucia has to put up with the Picasso museum then you have to put up with the Chocolate Museum.
James, Yoli and Lucia thanks for another great video. I was fortunate to have recently spent 5 weeks in Benidorm and over the years have made trips to Bodega Enrique Mendoza, Guadalest and the Waterfalls at Algar. My favourite pass time is to lose myself in the meandering streets of Old Town Benidorm, eating Tapas and practicing my limited Spanish on unsuspecting locals. Balcony del Mediteraneo at sunset is breathtaking. I've only been home 2 weeks and pining to go back. 7 weeks and counting...
Altea is still a piece of paradise on earth and the surrounding area. I am from Alicante and lived here all my life and truly blessed for this. Benidorm was a small fishing village until 1972-73 which is when its transformation began Not the 50s
I visited Benidorm with my parents as a child in 1969. It certainly wasn't a fishing village then. Very touristy. However, El Campello, where we were staying, was still a fishing village with wooden boats being built on the beach.
7 years ago we bought a small bungalow in the north outskirts of Alicante City (cabo de Huertas) and was probably one of the best decisions in our life. Of course we vacation there all summers, but certainly we enjoy going there any other season during the whole year. Just 4 hours by car (only 2,5 hours by train, with public transport granted from door to door), makes quite easy to travel there from Madrid any weekend. Visiting Alicante during winter, autumn or spring time is much more relaxing then in summer, good weather is almost granted (not always, last time we travelled there last November we had “levante” windy conditions, a kind of strong wind that comes from the sea side with high degree of humidity resulting very unpleasant, but is not very frequent fortunately). We have enjoyed swimming in “calas” close to Alicante in November or March, and used sun tun creams in December. Places like Altea, Benidorm, Guadalest, Calpe or Alicante city, so crowded in summer time, are delicious to be walked at off peak seasons, and of course no mention to how easy is to find a good place to enjoy fantastic “gourmet experiences” in all kind of restaurants which result totally inaccesible in summer (fully booked). Alicante coast is a very nice place to live, and I hope to retire there and switch my leisure plans: to live in Alicante and travel to Madrid on weekends for living its stunning cultural and social life…. but just the weekends..!!!
Hola Manuel, I live in Cabo Huertas all year. (Cerca de la Calita) I totally agree with you that “El Cabo” is an absolute paradise as is much of the surrounding area. Indeed we are blessed both you and me.
I spontaneously went to Alicante in May 2019 without knowing anything about that part of Spain and spent a wonderful 10 days and fell in love with that region, I was in a hotel 20 minutes from Alicante city center, and on that trip, I visited Altea, Benidorm, Villajoyosa, Elche, Novelda and Murcia. I want to visit this beautiful part of Spain again, I hope soon
I agree, we bought our house in Toretta 2 about 13 years ago and moved here permanently 2 weeks before the first lockdown. The beaches are well looked after and general facilities are as good as anywhere..... highly recommended for buyers or just visitors... According to the W.H.O. it's one of the healthiest places in the World to live. If you prefer a wetter climate and green countryside then the other side of Alicante towards Valencia might be for you..
Graciaaaas!
Since living in Valencia, I have been told repeatedly about going to Benidorm, which is accessible via train and bus. I should be able to get out there at some point, even if Valencia has its own beaches. I will need to find the perfect time to go to avoid the excessive tourists in the area, but certainly not in January. Wines in this particular region of Spain are quite good so I am glad you highlighted that to the viewers. I thought it was cool that you got recognized from someone who has watched your channel.
Go 50km south into Orihuela Costa and its also a hot semi-arid climate... but a little warmer than Alicante City. Tomorrow it will be 23c- January 31st. Alicante City is lovely. I drive up there once a forthnight on a Sunday for a coffee and a wander around town.
Lovely change of scenery and excellent advice James…embrace the life you want to live. That life for me means more time in Spain. Thanks for the inspiration!
Really liked Alicante when we were there. Glad you enjoyed the trip. Great to get some history about the place and to see it again with some non touristy spots
We stayed in Altea when we first were looking for a holiday home we loved it but we ended up buying in Cabo Roig further South, we love everything about Spain and miss it when we are away , we are back for all of April, can’t wait ❤️
Hi guys! Thank you so much for your great videos! It is always a pleasure to watch you on RUclips. We are learning so much! Please keep filming, I for sure will keep watching😊 Muchas Gracias
Hi James! I love the videos you and Yoly are making, particularly the ones when you travel round Spain (Cuenca, Galicia, Caceres etc). As a Malagueno in the UK (Hence the lack of enye on my keyboard) it's great to see Spain again ....even Benidorm. I'm hoping to go back to Malaga to see my family in March - I can't wait! Thanks for bringing Spain a little bit closer when it has seemed so far recently. Also, i think Sierra Gelada is a Natural Park, not a National Park - it doesn't quite have that status of protection just yet. Looking forward to the next video! Perhaps around the Malaga region :)
Greetings from little Denmark in the north :) I was in Benidorm in 1977 and it was fantastic. We could not use the beach as there were some bad stuff in the ocean . but the pool was nice and the city always alive :) Thank you so much for all your fantastic videos - I really enjoy them. My prefered vacation has always been Spain - I love the language, the weather and the people :) and tapas/Cava
We moved to Isla Canela 4 years ago and it is absolutely wonderful year round. The beach, Guadiana River and Portugal ten minutes away plus tennis , golf, kite boarding and paddle everywhere.
Hi.....I live in Madrid and we (like you I have a Spanish wife) used to go whenever we could to the Alicante coast on winter breaks, usually to Benidorm. But recently we've been going to the Costa del Sol in Benalmadena near Torremolinos and TBH it's much better. Benidorm especially is getting grubbier by the day and places like Calpe and Torrevieja are going the same way. Love your videos BTW, keep 'em coming. Be nice in the future to see you visit more places inland........Spain is full of hidden gems......
You need to do the coastline from Benidorm up to Denia. Stunning nature and coastline with coves like Cala Granadella, Cala Moraig, Cala Barraca (Portixol). Towns like Calpe, Moraira, Cumbra del Sol and Javea (Where I live) not to mention all the beutifull towns inland.
Great video. We live in Alicante region and are very happy, moved here 2021. Agree about Benidorm, party town geared up for vacationing. Alicante city is more our taste, historical city with great museums, restaurants and bars. Completely different vibe from Benidorm. Alicante in the winter is lovely, cool but not cold, being in or out of the sun makes a big difference.
Hi James & Yoly (and of course Camera girl Lucia), it was great to see you filming my home town Altea. We have lived here for four years and love the place. Benidorm is fascinating although very much a marmite or should I say Vegimite, as you either love it or loathe it, Benidorm es lo que hay! Keep up the great video's, we enjoy them so much and they give us plenty of ideas for exploring our new country.
This is so great. It is what travel really is like. Sounds glamorous, and in fact is a lot of work. It takes discipline to do it right, but it is worth the effort.
Hi James and Yoly, thanks a lot for the beautiful video! South of Spain is totally great in winter! I spent few days in Malaga this winter and it was such a relief from the gloomy Prague's winter!
I hear you. We’ve travelled with our three kids since they were babies and just packed them up and moved from Australia to Spain - two teenagers and an eight year old. Certainly makes for resilient adults. We hope!
I love Alicante City and go every year now. Near to airport, beach, shops, restaurants, history, feels safe and affordable property. I am tempted to buy an apartment here but now that the UK has left the EU I have some concerns.
JAMES! This one even I know, Arroz Caldoso! I’ve made it already! Since I am not in Spain, and where I live, I asked for paella once in a “Spanish” restaurant 🤢😐 never more! I watch Spain in a fork, and I make it myself at home! For paella I follow a family recipe! 🥘
We spent a week in Alicante last summer and I loved it! My son lives in Madrid, so after the week at beach we went to Barcelona for a few days and then to Madrid. Enjoyed it so much. I could live in Alicante permanently!
Oh fantastic! I didn't know they had a museum of the Moors & Christians costumes - that would be incredible. If you've never been to a festival, so worth going, we went to Elche & somewhere south of La Marina - can't remember now, but wonderful! Just brilliant - loved that in Andalusia - Spring/summer, maybe?
I am from around there :) I lived in Ireland for 6 years and when I came back on christmas... I was like... yes... the sun.. the weather.. waaaaay better!!! #lamillorterretadelmon
Great video James, Yoly, and Lucia. The Valencia region is one I'm not familiar with, but I'm planning to visit as one of my stops when I go to Spain this summer with my husband and son. Your place on the beach in Altea was so beautiful and relaxing. I am more of a summer person, but I'm sure the scene is not so peaceful in summer! And, I especially loved your comment at the end, James, about how people might live a little differently than they did before. Instead of going back to "normal", living parts of your life as you've always dreamed of living it!
Wow, a nice cold Heineken Beer in Alicante on a warm sunny day in January, this video is full of nice contradictions 6:47, cheers mate, greetings from Amsterdam.
Altea is the reason why I have lived in La Nucia with a view of Altea and towards Calpe. Here there are around 10 cities only 15/20 minutes apart and scooter or motorcycle it is easy to move ..My area...:)
I've only started watching your videos to get an idea of what it would be like to move to Spain. I absolutely love the informative videos and the little trips. It's keeping my dream alive to move there and have a better quality of life. Thank you both for the videos.
Winter in Valencia is wonderful. Walk down the street with Christmas lights and oranges on the trees. Nochevieja is fireworks. The on the evening of the 5th january is La Cabalgata de Reyes Magos. A must for children of all ages.
Hola! Beautiful video , today we have freezing weather in Florida USA 😱 and we are thinking of moving to Alicante , so we really enjoyed your video. We are getting ready to apply for a non lucrative visa because we visited Alicante and we fell in love with the old town 🥰 thank you again for a great video 👏👏
We were there last summer on our boat. Stayed at the marina and really loved it there. Amazing that you can see Benidorm from the top of the old town! Two more different places you could not find in Spain.
What a fabulous trip - loved the look of that paella with tuna! In Canada, we're still in deep snow. Robins are returning so there's hope! Lucia is so good and such a sweetie!
I absolutely love the novelty of staying in a high rise hotel in Benidorm with a balcony in the sky. Those who pass negative judgement have usually never visited.
Fun video. My wife and I are entertaining the idea of retiring to the Costa Blanca, and the areas around Valencia have caught our attention. Happy to see the brief take on Altea, and we'll leave Benidorm to the Brits. You guys are awesome as always. And you're champs for traveling with your darling baby! Cheers
I was on my local beach at Sagunto for sunrise yesterday morning with my camera. As soon as the sun raised it's golden head the warmth flooded all over me. The World was at peace. So, you have had a proper Paella at last ;-p. My wife's family have a vineyard north west of Yecla, and they use Monastrell grapes. My wife is extremely biased of course, but the wine is rather nice. So, if you come across a bottle of Barahonda ;-)
Hello Spain lovers! Hope you like the vid. Anyone else got a favourite winter retreat in Spain? Let us know below! 🌞👇🏽
your channel is the best platform ever about Spain. I am huge fan of you from Dubai.
Sagunto is great, as it's divide into two parts. You have the Port de Sagunt with it's sandy beaches, nightlife, Restraunts and so on. Then you have the more laid back old town which nestles below the awesome castle. It was 16' yesterday :-)

@@elpito9326 Gracias! La verdad es que desde esta publicación me informé un poco más sobre el tema y encontré la tienda de la que hablas. Por suerte me pilla más cerca así que la visito de vez en cuando. 😍
Gina
Check out Denia on the way to Benidorm and if you have time Alicante city is worth a visit also.
@@robertmeredith906 thanks for the suggestion
Go 50km south into Orihuela Costa and its also a hot semi-arid climate... but a little warmer than Alicante City. Tomorrow it will be 23c- January 31st. Alicante City is lovely. I drive up there once a forthnight on a Sunday for a coffee and a wander around town.
Lovely change of scenery and excellent advice James…embrace the life you want to live. That life for me means more time in Spain. Thanks for the inspiration!
Cheers Andrea!
Really liked Alicante when we were there. Glad you enjoyed the trip.
Great to get some history about the place and to see it again with some non touristy spots
Glad you enjoyed it Robert!
Very inspiring video, I too plan on exploring more of Spain after the pandemic finally eases, life is short
Además va verdad, hay que disfrutar si podéis. No sabemos el tiempo que nos queda. 🙋🏻
We stayed in Altea when we first were looking for a holiday home we loved it but we ended up buying in Cabo Roig further South, we love everything about Spain and miss it when we are away , we are back for all of April, can’t wait ❤️
Hasta pronto.🙋🏻
Absolutely great video, loved the humour!!!
that's not fair...ridiculously beautiful!!!
Hi guys! Thank you so much for your great videos! It is always a pleasure to watch you on RUclips. We are learning so much! Please keep filming, I for sure will keep watching😊
Muchas Gracias
We could not use the beach as there were some bad stuff in the ocean . but the pool was nice and the city always alive :)
Thank you so much for all your fantastic videos - I really enjoy them.
How lovely to see you both with your beautiful child, what a lovely family.
Great video! I'm so happy to see you out and about again. I miss not seeing your videos on a more routine basis like you used to have pre pandemic.
Alicante es la tierra que me vio nacer, no puedo opinar, no sería objetiva. Felices vacaciones y disfrutar de esa preciosa bebita.❤️🙋🏻
Thanks Whanau, for a fun, interesting, entertaining and informative video all the way from Aotearoa (NZ). Stay safe and Kia Kaha
Next time. Great idea!
I adore Alicante but the area around Denia etc really IS stunning.
My 2nd visit to this video. Loving the ocean and the views.
Beautiful video and brilliant editing. Thank you 🙏🏽
Altea is a magical spot... Every summer I spend at least one day in this town... Altea la vella is just fascinating
Hi James and Yoly, thanks a lot for the beautiful video! South of Spain is totally great in winter! I spent few days in Malaga this winter and it was such a relief from the gloomy Prague's winter!
Glad you managed to get a little bit of southern Spanish winter sun Volodymyr!
Wow, Guadelest looks lovely. And the winery!
I hear you. We’ve travelled with our three kids since they were babies and just packed them up and moved from Australia to Spain - two teenagers and an eight year old. Certainly makes for resilient adults. We hope!
Excellent video. That area is now on our list to visit when we return.
The whole video seems really relaxing! Enjoy guys 😎
You guys are amazing to still entertain your subscribers with a baby. Hats off to you and to Lucia. She's actually quite good.
We are so happy that you keep doing the videos even if it is harder with a baby. And I am looking forward to sharing show you Mallorca some day.
I can't wait to visit Spain from the other side of the world NZ I hope next year,
Oh fantastic!
Gorgeous scenery and interesting stories of the local history! Baby Lucia is gorgeous too!
I am from around there :) I lived in Ireland for 6 years and when I came back on christmas... I was like... yes... the sun.. the weather.. waaaaay better!!! #lamillorterretadelmon
That balcony view is spectacular. I might need to be in great shape to do those steps.
No, puede hacerlo cualquier persona te lo aseguro, puedes tardar más o menos, pero es accesible.🙋🏻
Wow the views from the top of those mountains are ridiculously beautiful. Stunning views thanks for sharing!
Had a golden sunrise swim at Dénia in August a few years ago. The water was like glass, very warm and it's something I'll never forget.
Saludos a mis raices, bueno cerquita... y lo echo de menos. Bonito video por supuesto!
Alicante region is fantastic, I sunbathe now, today, end of February...it is v cold in uk, happy I am here
Wow, a nice cold Heineken Beer in Alicante on a warm sunny day in January, this video is full of nice contradictions 6:47, cheers mate, greetings from Amsterdam.
Altea is the reason why I have lived in La Nucia with a view of Altea and towards Calpe. Here there are around 10 cities only 15/20 minutes apart and scooter or motorcycle it is easy to move ..My area...:)
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏
I've only started watching your videos to get an idea of what it would be like to move to Spain. I absolutely love the informative videos and the little trips. It's keeping my dream alive to move there and have a better quality of life. Thank you both for the videos.
Winter in Valencia is wonderful. Walk down the street with Christmas lights and oranges on the trees. Nochevieja is fireworks. The on the evening of the 5th january is La Cabalgata de Reyes Magos. A must for children of all ages.
Thanks James and Yoly what an excellent, I formative vid, you are a delightful family providing a great service giving us much to ponder✌🏼🥰🥂
Tuna paella. I'll steal they recipe.
I absolutely love the novelty of staying in a high rise hotel in Benidorm with a balcony in the sky. Those who pass negative judgement have usually never visited.
Thanks for this look at more than just the touristy side of the area!
hi guys! I'm happy to see how you enjoyed visiting Altea. I spent 5 years of my life living and studying there. ❤
loved this video, you both look so happy and relaxed...thanks for sharing.
Cheers
welcome Alan to Spain,, don´t forget The Castellon Coast,,, nice beaches and wonderful village!!
Where would you suggest?
I was on my local beach at Sagunto for sunrise yesterday morning with my camera. As soon as the sun raised it's golden head the warmth flooded all over me. The World was at peace.
So, you have had a proper Paella at last ;-p.
My wife's family have a vineyard north west of Yecla, and they use Monastrell grapes. My wife is extremely biased of course, but the wine is rather nice. So, if you come across a bottle of Barahonda ;-)
Sounds lovely!
Lucia looks advanced in development for her age, Wonderful vid on the region!
Thanks guys for bringing us along!
Great video. Bringing the family stuff in and making it personal, really enhances the experience.
In Valencia, our paella came with rabbit and snails. Wondrous!
Lol I loved the voice over summary at the beginning welcome to life with kids.
Just loved this video and really great to see Lucia, what a cutie pie! Take care guys!
Sois muy guays, me entretengo y además practico inglés con vosotros. Abrazos de un compi de youtube!
Altea all the way.
And then there were three.
Good to see you looking happy and healthy,
