Ah, I love the integrated water on the new battle mat. I'm never happy with how modular rivers look, now this seems like a reason to buy a new mat if they start throwing rivers on them.
I agree! I recently bought some new rivers but am not in love. You might see them in the near future and can levy judgement. But I am with you - nothing beats the integrated look!

The upgraded video and light quality is awesome, great stuff! One suggestion though: it'd be nice to see both players simultaneously more often, maybe a wide angle camera would do the trick?

I didnt even know about the Calderon Protectorate. Read up on what little was on Sarna and i like the faction. Good vid. I think i'll keep rooting for the Calderon on this series. :D And the paintjob on the mechs are are so goood!

The new studio looks great! I do miss the close up camera shots of the mechs, but if doing it this format makes it more comfortable for you guys then keep it up. I also find it hilarious that the first blood spilt in the new studio was a through critical headshot through the fog.
You couldn’t script it. Absolutely classic.
I love forced withdrawl. As the "commander" of the forces, it's nice for you to lose control of units when things go badly.
Now, the 1" is silly. My table does move must end half of the unit's movement towards the edge (other half can move laterally). I also like the morale checks I've seen in DFA videos, where failure results in sprinting away (like a rout).

Oh boy! Death From Above Wargaming Wednesday! Best day of the week! This BatRep was fun to watch. It had Dan decapitating with a headshot, it had salty whoopie cushion Aaron reacting to that and ranting about hovercraft...It had Aaron actually get a headshot on a target that was not his own Cyclops! It also had Dan not doing a motive check at one point, but I figure that was "ring rust" due to not having played for so long.
One thing I do miss that older Alpha Strike BatReps showed, was the quick showing of damage pips on the AS card overlays either between turns, or during the turns.

You gripe about the hover Gabriels, but i noticed both VTOL survived with their high TMM. Those 4 seemed to me to balance each other out. Thanks for the battle rep. Still hoping to see a return to classic someday. I miss those campaigns.
Griping is part of my psychological warfare. 😁 But what makes the hovers better imo is two fold - first they are much better at finding cover that totally obscures them and they can sprint (VTOLs cannot!) so a 20” move is really tough to counter vs 9” from the Warrior!

Hovercraft are the real kings of the battlefield. Change my mind. I love those things so much. I've been running a pair of 3x SRM6 Pegasus in my current Roguetech run.
Honestly the sideslip rules for them in Classic are really simple. But translating it to hexless might be weird since there are no exact points where a facing change happens. It could probably be done by ruling that hovercraft have to travel in submoves made up of straight lines at least 4 inches long. And have to do a PSR at each direction change. If they fail they skid for X inches. Either the Margin of Failure thing from Classic, or just make it equal to their TMM. (inb4 I make a bad pilot on purpose so they can powerslide and slalom across the map.)

I love the mixed units. Also love to see taurians, from the "near periphery" States they are my faves (personally i play either Hanseatic League or Comstar). also have you ever seen a good model for a Blackknight with a shield and Mechsword? a bit like the red Reaper solaris variant.
There was a premium BK with a sword… no shield though.
So are you guys actually using the Formation force building rules for these lists or are you just using the names at placeholders? I actually like using them as a way to help focus on what I want a group of units to do on the table, and extra rules is always nice.
Yah in these batreps its just fluff. The rules are just broken as heck for some of the formations - like just take battle lances all day and reroll important shots early in the game! It’s too good!
@@DeathfromAboveWargaming Some of them are kind of underperformers like the Assault Lance, but I think it adds a nice bit of extra complexity to list building, on top of the SPAs you can give to at least 1 unit of the bunch. Hell, one of the most memorable moments I've had so far was watching a Nova Prima miss not once, but on the re-roll as well to nuke a Warhammer with it's full overheat shot.
And it was on a roll of 6, it hurt so good but everyone had a good time of it.
You should bring in the Red Stone Rangers to support the Concordant forces.. Just a thouht.

This may be an obvious question, but it's something I've often wondered when I watch these kinds of high-production-value battle reports.
When you set up these games and chose both your factions and your units, do you then go out and buy a mini for each 'mech/vehicle in the lance and paint it up according to the faction? Or do you guys have pre-existing collections of a few favorite factions that you pick 'mechs from? I'm just getting started with painting and I'm floored by how much work you're all putting into getting the camo specs right for these videos. Cheers!
Hey - thank you! It’s a little bit of both… the studio has built up a significant collection over the years. We also commission painters to cook up an army from time to time, but largely it is the team doing the painting!

Enjoy your battle reports. I think hover craft should swap all armour for structure. I can't explain how those things can be hit by any weapon and not risk significant damage. I also think forced withdrawal might be fine if you ignored the 50% of structure rule, so just 1 structure or no damage at medium etc. Otherwise it penalises mechs more than little things. In that case I think you should move as close as possible towards your own board edge.
Right. I need to put some thought into some good house rules for FW. An Atlas with 4 structure shouldnt be as terrified as a Savannah Master with one structure!

I do have a question. I noticed that you guys were calling long range at 12+ inches throughout the game. Were you using a different range table than the book rules? At first I thought it might be because of the heavy fog, but that would only incur a +1 modifier to shooting.
We play what is called “1:1” scale - so just halve everything. Gives a little more room on the map to play. So instead of 6/24/42/60 the ranges are 3/12/21/30. In this scenario, you’d also halve movement to bring it back in line with Classic BattleTech.
Where can I get those objective token models? They look awesome and would love to use them in my games.
Sadly they are about a decade old and no longer made. I would love to get another set or two myself!

I will say creators do have control of the placement of commercials. So yes might be RUclips adding more on top of what you guys planned. And its hard to get into a video that has the creativity yours does while it is constantly being stopped. Wrecks the mood.
@brotherlance8925 you can choose to place commercials, or you can choose to let YT do it. I let YT do it. I could demonetize videos and have no ads, but that makes no sense for the channel.
If the ads really get to you, you can pay for YT Red or whatever its called. I believe that removes all ads.

Would like to know now do you get 10 dice attack rolls from one mech. In battletech alpha strike.
Some mechs have a damage value that high, others can reach it by using OV.

The mat is from Deep-Cut Studio… not sure on the blips. Kevin had put some up on thingiverse and I believe theyre some variation of that - but Dan does what Dan does!

It's not as exciting as Warhammer 40k tabletop games... 40k games concentrate not just on game between people and winning but also greatly fleshing out all the units/ special characters on the table.... In this game units are barely visible....which is a shame...
It makes no sense that a 20” tall anime robot suit moves 6”. Warhammer scale is comically silly.

Imagine making a movie with tiny ants...would the movie be very exciting to watch for viewers if those ants would be barely visible on screen? Think not... it would not be very engaging...
