I like that the Ultramarine here is being respectful of the Serf’s concerns about his armor, and genuinely grateful for his aid in maintaining it. An excellent example of the relationship between the Space Marines and their mortal servants done right.
That all depends on the chapter. The Ultramarines and Salamanders are some of the best chapters. I would imagine that the Black templars and Night Lords does not show the same level of respect towards their Serfs

There is another one later talking to the magos in the armory about how his rifle hasn't been returned yet (It's still gunked up with Tyranid guts), and the Magos tells him to go talk to another techpriest to specifically get his temporary rifle adjusted to how he likes.

Only it's not your reflection. The angles are all wrong and it hurts to look at. Then you hear it. The blaring warning klaxons indicating complete Geller field failure.
I really like how he thanks them. and how genuinely concerned the chapter serfs seem. very intune with the lore, serfs arent menial servants (except in some chapters) they are honored assistants. and while the blueberries arent Salamanders they arent like other, more impatient chapters like Iron Hands
Just a small addition, some serfs are failed aspirants who for any reason didn't become fully fledged space marines and were offered another way to assist the chapter, meaning they have genuine connection and motivation.
Might not be super chummy with them but they recognize the Chapter couldn't function without someone playing all the support roles to keep them running.

Some of them are Humans that where saved by the Chapter or even by a peculiar Battle Brother and swore and oath of Servitude as a way to repay their Debt to their saviors Both Marines AND serf's know that the Serf's work is important and not at all "grunt" work or something seen as "lowly", since both knows that Space Marines cannot do ALL the work and needs to focus on their Duties as the God-Emperor's Bulwark against the Darkness. Being in the service of a Battle Brother of the Chapter is seen as an immense Honor and a very serious duty, as you are litteraly Helping in their day to day lives, the Finest of the Imperium Military Power. Now the treatement of Serfs vary from Chapters, while the Ultrasmurfs and the Salamanders are the ones that treats their Serfs the most fairly, Chapters like Imperial Fists for example treat them as invisible and unimportant but neccesary. While the Marines Malevolant Chapter, view them barely as better than slaves, just barely worth being in the August Presence of their Masters. Though he does have a special title of "Shipmaster" to avoid confusion with the Company Captains. That having been said, depending on the chapter, some Astartes may directly command the ships themselves or only command them tactically and leave the running of the ship to the Shipmaster.
Saw some people complaining about the battle damage carrying over between missions when SM's are so reverent of their armor in lore. In lore as well they seem to overlook the fact that SM's are repeatedly deployed and have little time for repair.
I'm not super in-tune with Warhammer lore since I am newer but I am glad at least one Marine in this game verbally thanks the serfs. Going into this game initially I thought the Marines would just berate or look down upon the non-marines but I was surprised they were friendly with the guardsmen and the others on the barge.

Because they were understandably nervous when she was gonna teleport a nuke into the golden thrones room as part of her blood games plan. They let her fellow custodes teleport into the ship and she was pissed. Had them all turn into servitors.
I mean, not really, the whole "emperor's angels" thing is probably just a title to those who serve next to them everyday If you're a guardsman or civilian who sees a marine saving your ass, you're gonna feel like you're being saved by an angel, but if you're literally tending to marines everyday, you're gonna realize they're just super soldiers
Kinda upsetting we don't see any marine serfs, space marine recruits that passed(survived) their trials but for what ever reason didn't cut it but instead of dumping them on some planet they are made into marines to protect the ship while the company(chapter) is doing battle. After all with only a 100 marines everyone is needed so it made sense to have serfs capable of repelling boarder. But that seems to have been forgotten, now you have a dozens maybe hundred of super soldiers guarding hallway doing absolutely nothing while these fighting to be done.
Mostly because a lot of chapters just lobotomize failure recruits and turned them into servitors and thats if they weren’t already dead, usually if you failed a trial, it’s because you straight up fucking died. But it would be cool to see the inductees who passed but haven’t undergone the rubicon procedure to turn into a space marine, usually once you pass basic trials, you’re then put into recon platoon and undergo further observation and serve for several years in that role, and if you survive THAT, then your turned into a space marine… and hopefully you survive that as well lol. Edit: some of these dudes may very well be the serfs you mentioned though, but also I’m not sure what ultra marine surfs look like, not too familiar with them (even though they’re the literal poster child for WH40K)
@@thomasp506 I know but these battles/wars where the entire chapter is committed, like the war for armageddon and Badab. Also since Guilliman made his intentions of the codex clear the restriction on chapter size seems to be ignored or still being somewhat adhered to it.
Something to keep in mind is many Serfs were once aspirants who washed out for one reason or another. Additionally the ship's crew, including officers, are serfs. In chapters with large fleets, even the Captains of many ships are technically Serfs. Astartes will command capital ships, but frigates corvettes are commanded by baseline humans.
Finally, we get to see the Chapter Serf. Would been better if we get to see the Chapter chef who basically got the highest prestige position in a Space Marine ship, since he will cook meals (Feast size for normal humans) for the space marine
The fact that the Ultramarine respects his serfs enough to feel like he has to justify not checking his armor in to days and thank afterwards is kinda sweet. Now, maybe this guy was born on Terra 10k years ago and is still if the generation of the very benevolent and less prideful Ultramarines of that time.
Most likely they are Artisans; a type of Chapter Serf that have likely received some training with the Mechanicus in order to help maintain the wargear of their Lords, but are not invested members of the Martian Priesthood.
You don't necessarily have to be a member of the Cult Mechanicus to beseech Machine Spirits. Most Imperial citizens believe that Machine Spirits exist and require placation, but only Cult Mechanicus members outright worship them. Therefore, the serfs in question may have been trained by the Mechanicus, but they are not necessarily members of it. That said, the Cult Mechanicus guards their secrets very jealously, so if they provide technical training to anyone outside of the Cult itself, it's going to be VERY basic and practical.

Yep. Lore says they take off their armor during downtime between campaigns. However, Warhammer focuses on active combat enough that we (readers/viewers) rarely see any of it outside that context.
Where are the Ultramar Auxilia? While they primarily serve as PDF for the 500 worlds, they also raise Guard regiments for 'foreign' service. I want to see Guardsmen with blueberry armour and funny helmet fringes!

They are recruited from either population planet from where Fortress-Monastery exist or failed Neophyte.... The Neophyte that failed usually task to assisted when space marine on the frontline combat as auxiliary unit
The lore of my OC chapter is veey much in line with this, they are unusualy compliant with the imperiums command structures, even being seen taking commands from imperial guard commisars much to the shock of said commisar who didnt realise who they where talking to..

It's 100 space marines per company, and a chapter has 10 companies. So it's closer to 1000 space marines.

Something to keep in mind is many Serfs were once aspirants who washed out for one reason or another.
Additionally the ship's crew, including officers, are serfs. In chapters with large fleets, even the Captains of many ships are technically Serfs. Astartes will command capital ships, but frigates corvettes are commanded by baseline humans.
That voice sounds acting for this background ultramarine like a modified Henry Cavill or is it just me
Finally, we get to see the Chapter Serf. Would been better if we get to see the Chapter chef who basically got the highest prestige position in a Space Marine ship, since he will cook meals (Feast size for normal humans) for the space marine
Also, if you pay attention throughout the campaign, you’ll notice your own armor gets more and more damaged

The fact that the Ultramarine respects his serfs enough to feel like he has to justify not checking his armor in to days and thank afterwards is kinda sweet.
Now, maybe this guy was born on Terra 10k years ago and is still if the generation of the very benevolent and less prideful Ultramarines of that time.

Most likely they are Artisans; a type of Chapter Serf that have likely received some training with the Mechanicus in order to help maintain the wargear of their Lords, but are not invested members of the Martian Priesthood.
You don't necessarily have to be a member of the Cult Mechanicus to beseech Machine Spirits. Most Imperial citizens believe that Machine Spirits exist and require placation, but only Cult Mechanicus members outright worship them.
Therefore, the serfs in question may have been trained by the Mechanicus, but they are not necessarily members of it. That said, the Cult Mechanicus guards their secrets very jealously, so if they provide technical training to anyone outside of the Cult itself, it's going to be VERY basic and practical.

I remember in Dawn Of War 1 all Imperial Guard vehicle units say “As soon as we beseech the Machine Spirit!” So belief and care for Spirits is hardly exclusive to the Mechanicus
the "Machine spirit" thing isn't exclusive to the mechanicus, it is a "popular belief" shall we say, cause, welle thats what they are "supposed" to do, cause one day a citizen heard a Techpriest say that this ancient peice of rust din't work properly cause the Machine Spirit was displeased and not cared for.
And since Technology is basicly Magic in the eyes of the common man in 40k( Any sufficiently Advance technology looks like magic to the untrained -Arthur C. Clarke), so they sure as hell ain't gonna question the validity of this Process.

Yep. Lore says they take off their armor during downtime between campaigns. However, Warhammer focuses on active combat enough that we (readers/viewers) rarely see any of it outside that context.

Where are the Ultramar Auxilia? While they primarily serve as PDF for the 500 worlds, they also raise Guard regiments for 'foreign' service. I want to see Guardsmen with blueberry armour and funny helmet fringes!

The moppers are not servitor ; They are chapter serf, Each Space Marine chapter (Legion in 30k) have large manpower of Serf, Chapter Serf is honorable individual non-superhuman genetic person charge everything that support logistic,food,supply,armament, infrastructure,transportation,maintainence all asset for Space Marine.. They are recruited from either population planet from where Fortress-Monastery exist or failed Neophyte....
The Neophyte that failed usually task to assisted when space marine on the frontline combat as auxiliary unit

The lore of my OC chapter is veey much in line with this, they are unusualy compliant with the imperiums command structures, even being seen taking commands from imperial guard commisars much to the shock of said commisar who didnt realise who they where talking to..
But why must they block the hallway? There are plenty of space to put all those stuff elsewhere.
