I think s.r.i mridangam is the best one too be used as the expression of Maa saraswati....after all knowledge (maa.. saraswati) it self is against the cruelty ,then why we are practicing it through cruelty
Dear sir If wood can be used for Housing purposes and animal meat is used for consumption purposes then nothing wrong in using wood for mridangam and animal skin for the sides. More animals are killed for consumption everyday than for using in mridangam. Please talk abt animal cruelty where it is relevant. As such the number of mridangists using animal hides is very very negligible and it could be 1 or 2% only. As a professional over 40 years of experience and having played other types of mridangams (invluding SRI) I can authoritatively say that no mridangam maker has come anywhere near the original tone produced by Wood and animal hides. Hope you understand sir. The weight of the mridangam has a direct influence on its tone and by reducing its weight and using synthetic materials we are compromising somewhere on the tone and tenor.
Thank you for sharing your opinion. Ealier people used to prepare out of skin of naturally dead animals. But, as money is associated few people don't hesitate to get animals killed. So only people who got to know about that started vegan. Using vegan eco friendly is not at all killing the tradition but to stop killing innocent (harmless) animals.

The leather straps one sounds the best👌
Vagan is = killing the tradition
Thank you for sharing your opinion. Ealier people used to prepare out of skin of naturally dead animals. But, as money is associated few people don't hesitate to get animals killed.
So only people who got to know about that started vegan.
Using vegan eco friendly is not at all killing the tradition but to stop killing innocent (harmless) animals.
You missed khol mrudanga played in odissa and Bengal in kirtan.
Namaste. I had made a mention of that in first video 'what is mrudanga' itself👍
Kucchi mrudanga
Hlo sir
Hello Darshan
there is a gudia murganga
Interesting. Thanks for letting me know
Cow skin is prohibited .
As far as possible I am promoting synthetic with no leather/wood 🙏
Kaddi is the proper mrundangam. Rest are just instruments.
Thank you for expressing your view. Please watch all the videos share your views and suggestions 🙏
Very well explained. Thank you Sir. After a break of 20years, I started learning Mridangam. For practice I have been advised to get a nut and bolt Mridangam panchamam shruti. Sir could you please guide/recommend me if it is the right choice. Thank you
That's a good choice. All the best
