What a wonderful documentary. The man is an incarnation of Bhagavan Nandi Himself. A colossus standing tall in his service to Carnatic Music spanning generations. The piece with Mattannur Sankarankutty Sir was the icing on the cake. To be able to hear both the percussions in sync seems like a scene straight out of Mount Kailash.
P.S. Whoever thought of inviting T M Krishna for this documentary screwed up big time. He had nothing to contribute except for his usual Hindu-hating-left-wing-Brahmin-bashing monologues masquerading as eloquent English that can often be seen in his worthless tweets.
I had the great fortune of listening to the maestro 5 years back sitting a mere 7 feet away during a Bhagavatha Saptaham. Was totally blown away by the maestro's playing. Still gives me goosebumps
*80 ?* He has all the energy and mischievous eyes of a teenager! Chitti Babu once described the vīnā as "as ancient as the vedas and as modern as tomorrow." Dr Sivaraman's mrdangam playing is also a great example of that idea. Seeing him on stage is a delight beyond belief!

That it is his father who spotted the talent in him and nurtured him is clearly spelt out. Half of the credit goes to the noble soul who brought up and shaped such a legend is praise worthy. Pranams to USR and his Doctor father.
So much to absorb!!!! Watching just once is not enough. What a disciplinarian! What a legend!
so true!🙂🙏
No one is greater than the man who made the percussion instrument. His acumen is so great that it is tuned right in to it. But these people were never brought to light. They are good players too behind the screen.
His mridangum speaks volumes about
sri UKS sir that he is certainly a magical legend today in the Carnatic music world.
His majestic stature, sitting posture,
concentratipn on the main artiste and
stage discipline are all worthy of emulatipn today when you see artists
go for bottle of water every now and then
on the stage. He is willing to open up
for all forms percussion in mridangum.
He is not only a mere percussionist, but
a total reformist and a role model for
today's percussionists. God bless you
UKS sir,
Pranams to the legendary percussionist Dr. Umayalpuram Sivaraman. Had the good fortune to interact with him decades ago, when he visited my home in Secbad. Gentle giant . He accompanied young & old alike. A great quality. Thanks Rajiv Menon & team for bringing out this documentary .
We Indians are so rich in culture and music. Proud to be an Indian.
what did you do?
This documentary revolves around the well-disciplined life of the great vidwan. Today, more than anything else, he answers all others who wish to contend with him by his peerless playing of the Vaadhyam even after 75 + years. This documentary also answers many sensitive questions about him, his character, and his confidence levels. Pranaams to the great maestro🙏🙏🙏. Kudos to Rajiv Menon and team.
well said!👍🙏
In my younger days, I had the opportunity to learn mridangam - though partially - from my guru - Karaikudi Natesa Iyer in Trichy - I learnt Adi thalam and Rupaka thalam - I was immature to let go the opportunity - I regret not having learnt fully - Hats off to todays generation to learn fine arts
Beautiful! Credit to Rajiv menon for his thought, time, energy and money to create this documentary in current day and age where people preferences seem to move away from Carnatic music. Now that you have created it, we look forward to many more from you in this form rather than just popular cinemas

That's the embodiment of devotion. What a happy soul
While TM Krishnan is a self absorbed self lover
Wonderful … brings back memories of his concerts from the early 1960s!
An excellent and most insightful but fleeting peek into the life and talent of a legendary percussionist. Thank you Rajiv Menon and team
Most of the content is close to Sarvam Talamayam. No doubt it is from the same school. We loved watching this as much as we did watching the movie.
Thanks for such a beautiful content.
Living Legend ! எங்கள் பாக்கியம்
அருமையான explanation.
From California
Super documentary on Umayalpuram Sivaraman . Some of the comments made by a Krishna on a particular community patronising classical music , according to me is unfortunate choice of language. No body is stopping anyone from learning or listening to classical music. I am not from the said community but I still enjoy and love carnatic music. Many people don't relate or understand classical music. We must have better methods to educate young people to understand/enjoy classical music. There are many people who don't want to listen let alone learn carnatic music as it might not agree with their religious sentiments. I hope an/any attempt to educate people in the wonderful splendor of carnatic music will come by. wonderful job Rajiv Menon.Pls make more wonderful videos.
One more thought how many western people listen to western classical music? In the west there is no so-called cast/religion.
We must not apply a western template on everything.
Agree with you ..Mr.Krishna has his view point..his experience..music is open to all..if any person stopping them or not supporting then it's should not be done..but if PPL are not taking interest it can't be forced upon..🙏😊
@@udlovemusic its astounding how so called learned musician manages to bring in cast, creed & religion into everything. Seems that this learned musician are the ones most interested in perpetuating divisiveness. This is a documentary on music and it should be only so.
Mr. Krishna only cares about his venomous agenda...and less about music.
Thanks to the channel for publishing the video. watched some frames repeatedly.
A, Legend Is UKS Sir.. Blessed to listen to this 🙏 .. UKS Sir is a, Gift to Us
Indian music is divine thank you for uploading this documentary 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Contributions of artistes like Umayalpuram Sivaraman are part of our cultural treasure. This treasure should be available to all of us and the future generations.
Excellent! My sincere pranaams to this great legend! From USA
What an absolute genius percussionist. As someone who plays the Tabla and generally listens to Hindustani Classical, such guni people are my windows into the amazing and beautiful world of Carnatic Sangeet. He is positively drawing people like me to Carnatic Sangeet by striving for perfection with his music rather than propaganda and negative Bol Bachan by some. That is how it should be. More power to Dr Sivaraman.
Contributions of artistes like Umayalpuram Sivaraman should be archived and made available to the current and future generations.
Respected Umayalpuram sivaraman is the greatest mirudangam artist of this century
Loved to watch this documentary, so well made and very interesting. Congrats and best wishes.

beautiful very nice.....
grateful for this ... but also confusing to see TMK coming in occasionally to talk about things not even connected to the legend and was totally distracting. Was this an editing mistake?
Same question.
Everything TMK speaks in this video is unrelated to UKS.
UKS deserves a better documentary for the legend he is.
Here’s something that you may want to see which is from a different perspective.. m.ruclips.net/video/D1LZbYu_TPU/видео.html
TMK is trying to become a political person .
In ART there are great people from all walks of life .
Many ,for the sake of money , go to the film word deserting classical carnatic music .
This fact TMK should address and also allow every one to choose his/ her field of interest .
You cannot force any one to your thinking .
There many legends who are not brahmins . Talk to them . They will tell you the TRUTH .
Yes
I stooped watching once i saw tm krishna
beautiful documentary
Very nice & enjoyed.
Thanks a lot for the share
Well documwnted on the legend... God bless this genius and his Khandan
Very nice and informative documentary by Rajiv sir

Thank you!
True music is universal and universal musicians are truly divine!
Brilliant documentary
I watched him performing non stop for several hours late into the nigh during the Chennai program of Sadguru Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma).
Thx for respecting devadasis
Documentary on Umayalpuram Sivaraman ji and TM Krishna speaking are totally contrasting. Its like having nice food(UKS) and something else(TMK) s*** in the same plate or plantain leaf. May be the document producer does not want it to be a divine documentary, so he has added TMK part it seems.
All is divine, even what doesn't fit into your fairytale.
UKS is an absolute legend and v r fortunate to live in an era as his. Poorly chosen speakers like TMK and his irrelevant views on caste do complete injustice to this music legend and the documentary itself!
Absolutely agree. Very poor biased views from tmk
Sir, Mr.Rajiv Menon himself has set the Title wrong as 'Overtone' it should have been either 'Perfect Tone' or 'Over the Tone'. Over tone communicates abnormality.
Completely agree
When man’s soul decides to engulf mrudangam ❤️❤️❤️😇
I bow and touch this greatest mridangam players feet❤
Amazing 🙏🌟🙏
Rather than whining always, it would be advisable that the person should be the change he wants to see. Would be interesting to know what he has done to address the shortcomings as perceived by him. Does he have shishyas of diverse background?
great film
A very good introduction to commons
Pranaams to the legend 🙏🙏
Could someone kindly list the compositions / artists / Ragas sung in various intermittent sections of the video. I am new to Carnatic Music and hence trying to find my feet - would be highly obliged if anyone could clarify.
Super 🙏
Beautifully presented!
Its a wonderful documentary. Congratulations to Rajivmenon and team. Photography..excellent👍Loved it. We are blessed to live in this Umayalpuram generation..🙏may god bless him with ayurarogyasoukhyam 🙏💯💐ananthakodi namaskarams.
Thankyou to include TMK..who has versatile views. Namaskarams to TMK.💐🙏
Truly a LEGEND
Great man
Pranams to the living legend 🙏🙏🙏
Living Nandi ... 🙏🙏.. Some (many) concerts turn to be a success only because. of the "domination".. 🙏🙏🙏🙏
What a vision mama is having, kudos 👏 to mama Namaskarams
As Cassol rightly said he belongs to the "cosmic family". In 30m of documentary, Rajiv Menon has crafted a comprehensive exposition of one of the g
legendary Mridangam vidwans! It is an honest narration of the artist- his commitment to the craft, passion for the art and persistent hardwork. This documentary is also thought provoking, nudging the viewers to topics like the wider appreciation of carnatic music, it's sustenance and relevance globally, encouraging students from diverse backgrounds and ethnicity to be part of the process, adherence to traditional approach yet embracing the contemporary and getting the best foundation to explore all modalities.. Including great percussionists of the time like Mattannoor is enriching. The moments that would stay with me is Umayalpyram Sir's child-like excitement that was captured while exploring possibilities with the Chenda artists and the global ensemble!!
Excellent
Truly a legend.
Wonderful
❤️❤️🙏❤️❤️

👍🙌👏👋💯
Great documentary...T.M. krishna gave a good introduction. I am not sure why he called the nadaswaram player and devadasi community...Use of Isai vellalar is preferable.
May be you can give the feedback to him
@@SriramNarasimhan1973 i don't know him...if u know inform 🤪
Pranams🙏
T M Krishna's comments were not required for this otherwise good documentary
Yes
Yes... really...
He has to say something stupid all the time. He is just doing his stuff.
Well said.
