When I left the GOP and turned on Trump due to a myriad of reasons, my parents turned on me and our relationship has never been the same since. It's hard and what's worse is that any political conversation where I make any points that counter theirs turns into a conversation about how I am too educated, misguided, or then screaming at me that I'm trying to cancel them.

"The fact that the stupid person is often stubborn must not blind us to the fact that he is not independent. In conversation with him, one virtually feels that one is dealing not at all with a person, but with slogans, catchwords and the like that have taken possession of him. He is under a spell, blinded, misused, and abused in his very being. Having thus become a mindless tool, the stupid person will also be capable of any evil and at the same time incapable of seeing that it is evil. This is where the danger of diabolical misuse lurks, for it is this that can once and for all destroy human beings." Dietrich Bonhoeffer

This analysis makes so much sense. Arguing with a Trump supporter feels impossible because they don't make any logical sense when they argue. I've seen the "Libs have hate in their heart" thing and wondered at the bizarre hypocrisy. I've also recently encountered a phenomenon where I ask a Trump supporter why they support him, and have them hurl a stream of invective against me rather than saying anything positive about their guy. However, it makes sense that they have a different way of processing information than I do. It's not about objective reality but an algorithm for feeling good.

That's that good old conservative "Christian faith" at work: "If it feels right, it must be right, Jesus say so." No attention to facts or logic at all, they were groomed by their preachers to vote them into office. The evangelical Republicans have been a massive threat to the country for decades. They have been conspiring to overthrow democracy for a long, long time. Trump is merely the logical conclusion of their illogical and short-sighted plans.

But whenever the inevitable comes up ( mostly on line/ RUclips) I simply tell them I know they aren't as secure as they say they are. They know the truth deep down. Doesn't matter how much they fight. In the end they have to live in their mind. Yes they all have doubts. And yes somewhere in their heads they understand they are living a lie. Let them stew in it. And always show confidence. The more you fight them the more they think they win.

At this point I’ve just decided to laugh hysterically at anything they say. It’s all insane and ridiculous. Now that Kamala is the nominee I know that will irritate the crap out of them. I try to laugh like she does on purpose. Or I’ll say, “so what’s your point?” Then laugh and walk away in the middle of what they are saying (rude I know that’s the point - not worth my time) and go talk to someone else across the room or yard (if at a birthday party, holiday gathering or BBQ, and I’m not ready to leave the event). Since I’m usually the only one democrat at the gathering (especially when I visit my maga family), someone will be eager to try and engage me, “so what do you think about…” (whatever the latest topic has been in the their news feed). I’ve tried in the past to correct their lies and misinformation and they only change the question if they have to have an honest intellectual discussion. Sometimes I’ll say it’s not about any person but the issue at hand. Focus on the issue, not the politician. Well I agree there is an issue at the border so what about coming up with solutions? What’s yours? If they are willing to go there then I’ll share my ideas, such as what if we … for example “we should hire Disneyland to manage the border. They do a good job getting 150,000 people a day through their gates without people climbing over fences, no razor wire or armed guards, since no administration ever has figured what how to solve that problem.” Then change the topic of conversation or find an excuse to end the conversation, “oh looks like the food is ready, I’m going to help serve, brb” but never come back… Arguing with an idiot is no fun, and I can lose my temper in frustration, so I keep a multiple exit phrases at hand. “I’d love to talk but gotta run, Bob is waiting for me. Bye!” “Excuse me I’ve got to call my mechanic back..” “I hate to interrupt but where’s the bathroom?” Or ask about a totally different personal issue I know they were dealing with, “so how Junior doing away at college..?” “Is aunt Marge doing well since her heart attack?” (Ironic how they’ll distrust doctors and science until they need medical intervention for themselves or their loved one!) thankfully I don’t see them that often. But sad I have to carry an arsenal of verbal tools and can’t just relax and enjoy, always on guard for the next insult, attack, dissemination of misinformation. If I engage a serious inquiry, I do so because I have nieces and nephews and young family members around the table who do not ever hear the other side so I try to do so respectfully to give them something to think about and compare to. I know their parents are not going to be persuaded but try to plant a seed. “Oh well that isn’t my understanding, I read … (my point). I know the youngins are listening and busy googling to see if what I’m saying has any merit, and you know where that will lead them. Seed planted!

Saw the animation of you on channel "Dark Brandon", the vid called "inside the mind of Maga". Then came over to watch your series. Enjoying it very much. I started a quest to understand Maga during the pandemic. Particularly after the anti-vax hysteria. Prior to that, I had some experience with narcissistic people. Noticed a lot of similarities.
Several years into my quest now, and the best summary I've seen is ""... researchers found that overall, people were motivated to believe in conspiracy theories by a need to understand and feel safe in their environment, and a need to feel like the community they identify with is superior to
    others."
I watch so many people waste so much energy going around and around. Society is in a death spiral it seems. A massive injection of Radical empathy seems the only thing that may save us. Something I doubt we are capable of. I'll still try and do my part nonetheless.

    3) Insert “that’s not normal” or “normal people don’t think that way or do that”. People don’t like to think they’re not ‘normal’;
    4) Laugh at them a LOT, even if that means typing out ‘lol’.

You know next to nothing about almost everything. I value your opinion accordingly." Do this, and you put them in a ridiculous position. In order to gain influence over you, they must attempt to prove. They know something more than next to nothing about almost everything. The truth is. They know next to nothing about almost everything just like everybody else. The act of attempt to prove otherwise only makes them look like the con artists that they are.

I’m really enjoying your series. You’ve made some very valuable observations, thank you. Your characterisations are uncanny. However I’ve never experienced a herobot be that attentive to a conversation. And for that long. It’s usually name call and switch off. Like someone shooting from behind a tree, duck out shoot, back under cover before the retort appears. Then duck out and shoot again. Always avoid being hit. Never show a wound.

Absolutely fascinating!!! and SO VALUABLE to understand the MAGA Mentality. In part I'm watching thinking when is he gonna get to the good parts then I circle back to understanding why you are taking your time to get viewers to properly understand the Hero-bot state of mind. I've seen some conversational success in not debating and applying some irony yet not understanding why it had some success in getting through to where people are at... I'm eagerly awaiting the next part! Bring it on! 👍

DarkBrandon brought me here. This is all good stuff, but what I keep asking myself is why I should engage at all. I generally ask that right before I fall into a time-wasting, energy-sucking convo with a Trumper. I think I do it because I feel that if somebody lies I need to counter with the truth. Silence implies assent. And if we don't counter every lie with the truth eventually the great wall of lies will fall and swallow this country like a giant tsunami. That's probably nuts right there. Anyway, thanks for helping me work through it.

“He who argues with an idiot is another idiot.” These people aren’t about logic, reasoning, law, or whatever other self aggrandizing virtue they’d like to be associated with, but the validation of their biases and Feeling like they are right. They just move the goal post or push you to defend the lastest nonsense that came out of their mouth or the cherry picked information they heard on FB.

I couldn't believe how accurate part 3 was on MAGAs. I have a friend who is exactly like that. And I act the same way. I do not engage because it is pointless, exhausting, and a waste of time. I should say most MAGAs I meet. Some aren't like that.

I love ur skits😂😂😂😂 it reminds me a lot of what I’ve learned to do when responding to trolls online who try to pull the “ur name calling” “that’s ad hominem!!” Etc etc. I accept and acknowledge when I’m trying to be rude or belittle people. It’s funny how often trolls (rightfully) assume everyone they engage with wants to also appear morally superior, tolerant, etc. “you’re resulting to insults instead of an argument” and it’s like…? Yeah! I’m NOT trying to debate or convince you of anything! I AM trying to insult you. I don’t respect you! You frustrate and irritate me!!!😂😂😂😂

It has made the picture of this political divide that much clearer to me. I hope kamala sees these lmao. Sounds like she would need it. Just ask them to name any bill they support or were against. They “might” be able to say Obamacare. But then you just ask them where trumps replacement plan is, since he said we would see it in two weeks.
Or ask them of democrats are socialists, then ask them to define “socialism”. Then ask them why they are using words they don’t even know
