Everyone's solo is awesome, but I have to admit.... I keep watching the beginning over and over! Such a cool and fully natural player, wow... Oh, his tone!!!!
Seen him in CT. With my father as a young man. Had a concert shirt till my mid twenties. Amazing in person and I got to say live is where he shined. RIP.
April 18th: Happy birthday Blues Singer-Guitarist Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown (1924-2005) Grammy Award: Best Traditional Blues Album, Rhythm & Blues Foundation Pioneer Award. Thank you and God bless. Thanks for the upload, gibsonajpicker. Blessings
There's a storm a comin and it's CGB!'... Man, I was lucky enough to get to sing this with him at a concert in NY... What a sad, tragic end for such a nice, super talented man. RIP my brotha.... Your old friend, The Hittman
MISS YOU GATE !!!! I WAS SOO LUCKY TO HAVE KNOWN HIM GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR AND HE DIDNT TAKE ANY SHIT EITHER FROM NO ONE !:) I SAW WHIP A GUY WITH A GARDEN HOSE ONCE LMAO 79 YRS. OLD!!! HE WAS AN HONORARY SHERIFF OF THE ST. TAMMANY PERISH SHERIFFS DEPT. AND CARIED A 357
JJ Cale took from him, that's true. He is playing blues licks mostly, maybe mixolydian scale here and there and he also plays rhythm changes, like, he follows the chord notes.
All my favorite guitar players are named Johnny. I may have to break with tradition and add Clarence. Damn this dude can play! Love his unique note choices.
Thanks for posting! Is that Harry Stinson on drums? I had several Gatemouth cassettes back in the day and played them alot. I also liked the album he did with Roy Clark around 1980 - Makin' Music.
C, GATMOUTH BROWN ,IS pure natural talent, ONE OF THE BEST TO EVER PLAY MUSIC.😎🎸🔊🎶☮️ BOB

A genius on the guitar. For me he is the best.
He must've had some influence on Roy Buchanan because I can hear that similar pickin
JJ Cale admitted he was a fan of Clarence.

Clarence is so so good. I love the slightly JJ Cale-type scales which don't make any sense except they do
It all makes sense now
JJ Cale took from him, that's true. He is playing blues licks mostly, maybe mixolydian scale here and there and he also plays rhythm changes, like, he follows the chord notes.

Please does anyone know who the musicians are? The steel player is pretty cool! Is that Mick O'Connor on violin, didn't think he played much blues.
Gatemouth in great form and the band is rocking! Any idea when this was performed?
I was wondering that too! I'm guessing 1989.
Thanks for posting! Is that Harry Stinson on drums? I had several Gatemouth cassettes back in the day and played them alot. I also liked the album he did with Roy Clark around 1980 - Makin' Music.
DMAN I LOVE THAT ALBLUM !!!! GATE AND ROY GREAT STUFF !!!! I WAS SOOO BLESSED TO HAVE KNOWN GATE HE LIVED IN SLIDELL ,LA
This guy influenced a young Frank Zappa in the 1950's!....
He influenced everybody. He just didn't get the credit...for some reason, ma fella 'Mericans.
He was a bad man ....

Ben There yes it is. Nashville show called American music workshop
And Glen Worf on bass, who now plays with Mark Knofler
Is that Sanborn on sax?
Hey, is that Lee Roy Parnell playing slide guitar?
Yes, that's him! If you go to Mark O'Connor's RUclips channel, he has a better version of this video with Lee Roy introducing himself and Gatemouth.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No pick just fingers/
just like good ol' JJ Cale
+++
I think mojo was his middle name.
Nothing more useless than a MOJO that don't work. Bully for you Mr Brown yours is oiled and fine tuned!
None better
But why is Uncle Joey playing drums?
JJ Cale took a lot of his guitar style from Clarence G Brown
