Cars 3 Movie Description:
Cars 3 is a 2017 American animated sports comedy-adventure film produced by Pixar Animation Studios for Walt Disney Pictures. The sequel to Cars 2 (2011) and the third installment of the Cars film series, the film was directed by Brian Fee (in his directorial debut) and produced by Kevin Reher, from a screenplay written by Kiel Murray, Bob Peterson, and Mike Rich, and a story by Fee, Ben Queen, and the writing team of Eyal Podell and Jonathan E. Stewart. John Lasseter, who directed the first two Cars films, served as executive producer. The returning voices of Owen Wilson, Larry the Cable Guy, Bonnie Hunt, Tony Shalhoub, Guido Quaroni, Cheech Marin, Jenifer Lewis, Paul Dooley, Lloyd Sherr, Michael Wallis, Katherine Helmond and John Ratzenberger are joined by Cristela Alonzo, Chris Cooper, Armie Hammer, Nathan Fillion, Kerry Washington, and Lea DeLaria, in addition to a dozen NASCAR personalities. In the film, Lightning McQueen (Wilson), now a veteran racecar, must prove that he is still competitive against a new generation of technologically advanced racers, with the help of young technician Cruz Ramirez (Alonzo), to prevent a forced retirement from the Piston Cup.
Development of a third Cars film began in late 2011 after the release of its predecessor, and entered production in 2014, with Lasseter stating that it would be a "very emotional story", and go back to the first film's themes. The production team for the film conducted research on multiple NASCAR racers, particularly older ones, as well as a sports psychoanalyst, while also focusing on McQueen's relationship with Doc Hudson and its meaning. The production utilized a new rendering system, Rix Integration Subsystem (RIS), which was previously used in Finding Dory (2016). New cast members including Hammer and Alonzo were announced in January 2017, followed by Fillion, Washington and DeLaria two months later. Randy Newman, who had worked on the first film, composed the film's score with artists such as Andra Day, James Bay, Brad Paisley and Jorge Blanco contributing tracks for the film.
Cars 3 was first screened for the NASCAR industry in Kannapolis, North Carolina on May 23, 2017, before its theatrical release in the United States on June 16, accompanied by the animated short film Lou. It received generally positive reviews from critics and grossed $383 million worldwide against its $175 million budget, becoming the lowest-grossing film of the franchise, though still a box office success.

The first Cars will always be great, but I like Cars 3 the most out of the three films. This one focuses more on racing, something that the past two films didn’t really focus on that much, and I love how it deals with topics like legacy and retirement.

Ah yes, the movie with one of the most brutal car crashes and teaser trailers in history. Also, fun fact: Doc’s part in this movie was done entirely with unused archive recordings of Paul Newman from the first movie. I can’t think of a bigger tribute to both the actor and the character. I'm so glad we got to see him one last time.
Overall, I love that the movie returns to its motorsport roots, the more realistic and mature ending, and its message about being able to find a new purpose in the field you love.
hahahaha the teaser trailer is wild - I saw that when I was 9 years old and I was scarred for the next couple weeks after that 😭 looking back on it I think it’s a really good teaser but it is kinda messed up how they did that to us 😂
Very well said and I fully agree. To me the Cars franchise will always be a classic in the Pixar films.
I think this movie was a good call in multiple ways. They know the most excited audience aren't exactly kids, the kids were the one who watched Cars 1. Now that they're older, they gave them something more mature that can still be watched with kids.
Like how the kids who watched monsters Inc grew up and watched monsters university when it came out

Them talking about moonshine is a reference to the very roots of NASCAR. It started out during the Prohibition era, with souped up cars.
This is definitely an underrated gem in Pixar's catalogue. It really goes for the feels, while also having some of the best racing in the trilogy.
I saw in another reaction video where the guys talked about McQueen's age, because of the way Cars 1 is treated like it was half a century ago in this movie. Cause just like the Avengers movies, the year it comes out, its the year. Cars 1 was 2006, and this one was 2017. The director has said he's in 1977 or something, becomig a rookie racer in 2006. then there's the racer mentioning that his "Grandfather" talked about lightning McQueen as a rookie. They're treating 2006 like it was 50 years ago, and somehow it clasifies as 2 generations
Holy shit, Lightning looks advanced and sleek as hell for a vehicle from 1977.
The only thing you need to remember is lightning was being forced out because the newer cars all had better stats than he possibly could. His knowledge could get ahead of some of the newer ones but physically he could no longer hang in.

When my son was 5 I took him to see this in theaters. He legit cried when lightning took that crash. I felt it too, but to see my lil man tear up over McQueen was a cool moment. He was only 5 but was passionate about cars
Fun fact: The car ‘River Scott’ is based off of ‘Wendell Scott’ the first African American to be inducted to the nascar hall of fame.
Just how much the movie brings back Mcqueen's relation to Doc really does pull on the heartstrings man.

I think the real reason why Cars 2 was the way it was is because the voice actor of Doc actually passed away. Cars 2 might of probably was plained to have Doc in it but they probably has to change the whole thing because of it.

As a millenial I admit I seen all the cars movies and even though Cars 3 gets a bad rep in my honest opinion Cars 3 was about Lightning Mcqueen teaching his former trainer to think outside the box of racing and about retirement and legacy in general. Lightning became her mentor and they both learned from each other too and the 3rd film sends a great message in that sense. Cars is such a great film series and in my opinion this is why Pixar has always been successful because they put in lot of creativity in thier movies. One of the brothers that voiced the owners of rusteez passed away a while back. They used to have a show on npr where they would give car advice, also Docs voice actor passed away aswell. So Doc "dying" in the movie was also more realistic cause he had passed.

I like this one the most out of the 3 as well. I like how it almost solely focused on racing, even more than the first one. I'm glad we got several races here instead of just 2 from the first one and the races were an afterthought in 2. The visuals in this movie are amazing as well.

My sons love this movie the most of the three as well. I did not go in to watching this movie with great expectations and was pretty blown away by the story and messages.

I think the criticism of “Lightning doesn’t win” is unwarranted. I love sports movies that use tropes like Rocky losing to Apollo yet it’s a moral victory for him getting hit and getting back up. You can’t always win, and for him to end up finding happiness and genuine talent for coaching Cruz is something that makes it an interesting end to a good movie. I rather wish that the second movie was more geared towards his prime, and instead of the spy aesthetic, McQueen gets a big head after his two piston cup wins and is struggling to find himself due to the fame getting to his head.
For me, Cars 3 is the best, by far. Cars 1 it's really good, Cars 2 is a joke (from a storytelling and world building point), but Cars 3 is definitely a great (if not) perfect ending. It has its problems, but they are so minor compared to the good stuff that can be overlooked. Even more, THIS is the only Cars movie where cars as sentient characters have a real purpose, and this movie WOULDN'T work if it was with people (In cars 1, you can change the cars with people and the story barely changes, except for small details. The second... Well, doesn't need cars at all, except in the racing part. This movie can't work with people because, if McQueen was facing the end of his career as a racer because he has an old car, then he would be stupid, and the movie could have ended in the first 5 minutes. )

That clip is from the old Disney movie, The Love Bug, which is also about a sentient race car, a 1963 VW Bug named Herbie, and I guess was Disney’s original “Lightning McQueen” before Cars was a thing!
If you haven’t seen the first film from 1969, I highly recommend it! It’s a decent family film and it has quite a few funny moments!

As a kid growing up loving NASCAR and the first Cars movie I really loved this movie it came out around the time my favorite drivers growing up Jeff Gordon and Dale Jr were retiring and I was finding a new favorite in Chase Elliott who has a cameo in this movie as the number 24 Chase Racellot and I also really enjoyed Cruz's story. Time waits for no one

Most of the next gen racers are voiced by actual NASCAR drivers like The 24 is voiced by NASCAR champion Chase Elliott, That purple and orange car is voiced by Daniel Suarez, and one is voiced by Ryan Blaney.

Cars 3 is perfect for a 30yr old but terrible for a 12yr old, deep morals are great but a kid who loved McQueen having to sit through the retirement arc was just mean, and I as an incredibly juvenile 28yr old at the time didn't appreciate it

What I was confused about when I first watched this back in 2017 was when McQueen crashed, was that paint that he was leaving behind on the track, or was that supposed to be blood?
It was paint that was portrayed as blood as a way to keep the PG rating. They got the idea from Guillermo del Toro when he did this in Hellboy, where an animal was beat with a pay-phone and coins were used to simulate blood.
Cars is my favorite Pixar movie (all 3). But, honestly this is the best Cars movie, the part that got me the most is the picture of doc and lightning next to an identical picture of lightning and cruz. Rewatching it you realize from the moment they were on the beach, it was cruz who was really being trained because even though lightning was the greatest of his time there was no realistic scenario in which he would become a greater racer, only an amazing coach. And the fact that he wanted to be there for her like doc was for him, holds so much value that i cry no matter how many times I watch it.😭😭😭

I’ve always loved the Cars movies. I never understood why they got so much hate. With that said, the third movie is my favorite of the movies. It tackles on more of a serious and emotional tone. I really appreciate that.
As someone who didn't even like the first 2 movies, I had to admit when I saw this one it actually felt special. It felt like a "real" sports movie with plenty of real emotion and heart, and the chemistry between all the characters just seemed better.
People who say they don't like Cars 3 didn't watch it. I should know because I was one of those people at first. Until I watched. it. I think it's better than the first Cars movie.
