As a London flat renter myself, I soon learned that isnwouod be easier not to tell landlords about little changes, ie just replacing the bed myself, so long as you leave the new bed when you vacate, it wouldn't be an issue
Flat 2 and 7 were my favourites!❤️ I've been flat hunting recently too so I can empathise on how frantic and competitive it is. My budget was much lower than yours so it was even more chaotic as some of the apartments I saw had so many people seeing them. Even did a group viewing at one point which was super unpleasant; honestly seeing the competition makes it so much worse lol. Glad you found somewhere though, you can relaxxxx now.
ugh, yeah what an ~experience~ trying to find a home in london is 😢 those group viewings are soooo intimidating too! wishing you good vibes ✨ all the best for your flat hunt !!!!
The offer price it doesn't have to be always higher... I think it depends of the landlord. The one that I got the landlord has multiples flat and live abroad with an agency mediating everything. So we ask 50 pounds less and he accepted.
Totally agree! We didn’t have any luck getting a place without offering more £ but certainly depends on the situation/landlord/tenant etc ✨ glad you got a place with a deal !!!
Recent market is crazy. In the past my BF and I got both our previous flats for at less than asking. One was 200 less than asking, the other was 350 less than asking. But we have to move now and this time round it was a different world flat hunting. We even struggled to get viewings because it’s so competitive atm. All the agents we saw told us to see as many other agents as we can because they don’t have enough properties for how many people are looking.
oh wow! yeah that’s a pretty stark difference between now and your previous experiences ☹️ like you, we had a few that we were super keen to inspect and we too couldn’t even get in to see them - it felt super competitive. it’s such a shame! all the best for your search 💘
@@ceebee1461 yeah, I had the same experience. I can't count how many time they cancel a viewing because someone placed a holding deposit. Actually the place that I'm now, I only manage to get because I also did place the deposit before viewing. My luck was because the place had a good video showing the flat so we felt confurtable about it. But it was lucky for sure... I will try to avoid that in the future. The frustration was so much that we did this shot in the dark. I was so relieved when I went there the next day to see the flat and it was exactly how was is the video.
I’m not even gonna move out of the go try that I’m staying in any time soon but I’m obsessed with all these apartment tour/ haunt videos! So relaxing and fun to watch. And this one is def one of my fav yet tysm for this! ✨✨
Thanks for the tips! I am looking to head to London next year. I was wondering if you had any advice accommodation when you first arrive? Also which are the best websites when looking for an apartment to rent? Thank you :)
heya we stayed at an airbnb for the first few weeks but I also know some people find sublets on spareroom which can be more affordable! best websites are Zoopla, Rightmove and Openrent or Spareroom (for flatshares) all the best with your move and thanks for watching 🥰
I'm moving to London from New Zealand this year and this was super helpful! Do you know if landlords are fine with written references or prefer calls? Also how did you go about getting a guarantor?
Hi Victoria, I think a written reference would be totally fine ✨ I personally didn't need a guarantor to rent. I did have a letter from my new employer detailing my employment contract though. All the best with your move !!
Are you aware that living just outside of London is half the price ?? Also driving a car will be very expensive due to all these stupid don't pollute our air zones . Live out side London if you can a short train ride into London is not expensive . If you want any real advice let me know ...
Heey, thanks for sharing this, found it real valuable. I am relocating to London in April/May - how did you guys go about finding / meeting the agents? Was it all done via Rightmove/zoopla?
Hey there! Yes, we met them all through those platforms ✅ Once you're on their radar, it can be quite beneficial as they'll let you know about places that aren't yet on market. Also, definitely recommend calling them over email 😇 all the best with your search 💘
I used to rent in Hackney - subsidised by hackney council - double story one bed flat with huge kitchen and open Plan lounge room upstairs and a huge balcony overlooking liv st -£950 a month. If you can believe it our rent went DOWN every year thanks to the council. Had to move out of London after 6 or so years due to too much noise affecting our mental health 😅
Thank you 💘 if you’re already familiar with the area you want to live in, a lot of real estate agents offer virtual viewing options however, I was totally new and personally found seeing the place IRL pretty important for context to understand the neighbourhood, street noise. I personally just keep an eye on the platforms to get a sense of price etc and once I landed I got straight into it, almost full time haha ✨
Love this video! About to move to London so very helpful! How long was your flat hunt in total? And how much in advance of your move did you start looking?
Ah, so glad 😊 we only had to flat hunt for 2 weeks but it was all day, everyday for those 2 weeks (and we felt ~lucky~ that we found a place in that time)! We kept an eye on zoopla/right move in the months before arriving just to get a sense of price etc but we didn’t know which areas we wanted to live in so we didn’t start looking properly until we arrived. I’m glad we did wait as we went to quite a few places that weren’t as nice as their videos/photos or they weren’t in great locations that we couldn’t tell until we were on the ground ✨
Oh hackney , my birth town . Left there many moons ago as a young 6 year old . I often wonder what my life would have been like if we didn’t emigrate .
Whoa, whoa, whoa, just watched your Sydney flat tour before this video and I can't believe that apartment was 500$, and in London your budget skyrocketed to 3,4$ to rent a place you like with the current conversion rate? Did I get it right? 😱 PS Loved the flat 7, because of the vibe I could even imagine living there myself haha and you guys too!
haha, very observant! so there is a difference between how each market prices their rentals - Sydney does rent price per week and London does them per calendar month (pcm) 💫 so in Sydney our place is $500 AUD per week and in London it’s £1850 GBP per month. with conversions, what we’re paying in London is around $747 AUD per week (so not a drastic jump in price but we could certainly get a bigger place in Sydney with that budget) 💘 hope that makes sense & thanks for watching the vlogs !! yeah, flat 7 was such a chill ~homely~ vibe 😍
@@georgiadoust aaaaaaaaah! okay, that calmed me down a bit, haha! thank you so much for explaining, i just realized how little do i know about renting in Australia, but at least i learnt something today! 😏❤
How did you begin your house hunting journey in London? I’m American and I’m looking to move to London, but when I go online to look, it only shows vacation rentals or studio/private rooms. I’m not sure where to begin. Thanks!
hey Cierra! check out zoopla, rightmove and open rent (or spare room for flat sharing) 😇 those are the primary rental platforms for london ✨ all the best for your move 💘
Thanks for the informative video! I’m moving to London from Australia soon. How do the UK agencies carry out reference checks? Is it best to get a written reference from my current (Australian) real estate agent before moving to the UK?
Thanks for watching! My landlord asked for employment and rental references so I think that written reference from your real estate agent would be super helpful to have on hand prior to moving !! All the best for your move 💘

hello! i have a 2024 apartment hunting video if you would like to check it out: shorturl.at/jwKIY 🩵
the concept of bidding for apartments to rent (not to buy) is just a wild thing, now that I think of it
indeed! very strange and uncomfortable 🙈
it's just cause they demand outweighs the demand so we all compete for the same places - it's hell
The idea of "putting down and offer" for monthly rent is CRAZY to me as a swede, sounds very capitalistic 💀
indeed, it’s not ideal ☹️
That would probably be because it’s a capitalist nation thousands of miles away from Sweden.
It’s not even an option in the US. The overpriced price is the price.
As a London flat renter myself, I soon learned that isnwouod be easier not to tell landlords about little changes, ie just replacing the bed myself, so long as you leave the new bed when you vacate, it wouldn't be an issue
