      I practiced on cheap rubber and it cut no problem, then I laid on Tenergy 05 and I could hear it tearing as I was cutting! Turned out not too bad, but you really do have to use force and a fresh blade!

    • @-danR
      @-danR 5 лет назад +4

      Never do it this way. Get a _long_ kitchen knife and sharpen it.
      Dampen the smooth side (the hitting side) of the rubber all the way around the edge.
      Hold the blade by the handle. You won't be using the table for this.
      Starting near the handle, _pull_ the knife through the rubber in single long strokes, from smooth side to blade side, the knife kept at 90 degrees perpendicular to the plane of the racquet. Naturally you won't pull in the opposite direction or else you might pull the rubber off the edge of the blade.
      Each pull-slice will take about 3 inches around the blade.
      By the time you've made your way to the other side of the handle, you'll have expert long strokes, no jaggies, no possibility of pulling the rubber off in any way.
      When you get really good at this, you won't need a knife, or any water. Eventually I just used a high-quality large pair of fabric scissors, but (once again) applying a bit of pressure down while cutting continuously, toward the blade-side of the racquet.

    When the narrator says to cut the rubber using appropriate force i think she should precise that it is really hard to cut the rubber perfectly as this guy did, so you have to really force to cut it well.

  • @shogrran
    @shogrran 7 лет назад +8

    Question. In this video you aligned the bottom of the rubber to the handle and then laid the rubber lightly on the blade. On other videos I see people "rolling the rubber down" instead of laying it flat before rolling. Isn't rolling the rubber down better as it will provide better surface contact,avoid air getting in between the rubber and the blade, and the sponge from scrunching?

    • @uchihasasuke7436
      @uchihasasuke7436 5 лет назад +2

      He LITERALLY uses a roller dude. what are you talking about?

    • @floatingdisembodiedhead8975
      @floatingdisembodiedhead8975 2 года назад

      I agree but I think it all comes down to individual preference. I see Dimitrij Ovtcharov pulling the rubber tight with one hand while the other hand rolls the rubber to make sure the surface is tight and secure from any unwanted air intrusions. But according to Dima, sometimes people prefer to just roll the rubber without tightening the surface as it generates more spin.

    Hi, I was just wondering if only 1 pass is required for a perfect clean cut or should we pass through the rubber with the blade multiple times? What works best?

      +YWxkcmlu osu! just once

    • @spaceinvader384
      @spaceinvader384 8 лет назад +7

      One pass is the best. Make sure you use BRAND NEW big blade (not the narrow pocket ones) 'cause bigger handle and wider blade will cut the quality tough rubber through first attempt. Consistent strong pressure and slow motion is needed. Don't forget a proper cutting board (or an old phone book). Watch how you turn the blade or you move around to cut it. This guy has done it hundreds of times so it looks easy. If you buy rubbers in Hong Kong, they'll glue it for free on the spot. :)
      Multiple passes might damage your blade or create uneven edges.

      A mi me gusta Donic, tiene buenos cauchos, en especial ese baracuda, es de los mejores cauchos mucha rotación buen control, muy equilibrado, la serie Coppa también es buena y la serie Acuda el S2 en especial que es de dureza media es bueno. Butterfly tiene muy buenas gomas, pero son caros, otra marca que me gusta a mi es Friendship tiene también cauchos buenos a precios accesibles, para principiantes recomiendo de Friendship el focus III, que es como un Sriver de butterfly pero mucho más barato. Y de Donic para principiantes el Twingo plus, o el akkadi tai Chi.

      Try to keep the blade going straight down the whole time you're cutting. If it is cutting the rubber at an angle it tends to rip some small chunks off and comes out jagged.
