Talking watches with Aurel Bacs. What does it mean to be a collector, what drives young watch enthusiasts? Aurel gives his take on the industry and the collecting community as a whole.
Loved how he defined a true watch collector, binge buying all the latest unatainable over retailed Steel Rolexes and couple Royal Oaks will not make you a watch collector, it will just make you remember that you are a rich man who can buy watches and there’s nothing wrong with that!
Do I have contemporary watches? Sure I have Pateks, FP Journes, Philippe Dufours, Laurent Ferriers LMAO those are only like the best watch brands in history
"Aurel is not fond of contemporary". Even if you still think that, let me tell you this - He owns a Lange 1, arguably one of the most contemporary watches ever made.
Is one a collector at 100 pieces? 200? I agree with the maestro, it depends on the behavior. I am a collector at 81 pieces, in observations of the mantra, “A collector buys, but never sells.”
In my opinion that statement is not always true. Some collectors fund the hobby by selling, reluctantly! I apply the thought" I can not afford it, how can I get it" Not "I can not afford it so I can not have it"
@@schniggs2011 I collect antique corkscrews and that is how I have built my collection. www.corkscrewappraisals.com but I have a few watches and love them and have never sold one of them but I still feel I am a corkscrew and watch collector along with other bits! But I do get your point and thanks for your reply. Best wishes.

I can listen to him speak for days
Me too!
Aurel is such an articulate speaker, and he has good insights about collectors.
11:07 great description of why watches are so wonderful.
Very good definition of 'collectors'. Many rich people think they are collector when they have 15 Rolex, 10 Patek and 17 AP. But they are not!
great man! great questions too!
Based on provenance alone, his collection will be worth a ton someday.
Super well made video!
Great advice, well considered.
He's so slick, man oh man lol. This is it. The apex of collecting.
very cool video! He is very impressive!
Ahhh intelligence, always a pleasure to learn from. Thank you.

LMAO those are only like the best watch brands in history
Elegance, man

Agreed, Aurel loves all watches. His taste in both new or vintage is consistently impeccable.
@@TheHourGlassOfficial True. He's a man of excellent taste and a keen eye for detail.
A stainless steel Lange 1 … that’s a whole league of its own

A brand like Angelus perhaps!
Is this Phillip Auction House the same as Phillips consumer electronics and Phillips professional Healthcare solutions?
All very different, despite having the same name
that's Philips with only one L (as they're Dutch)
nice,
Thank you
What the dickens are those things in the background!? Humidity, temp. controlled watch storage drawers...?
Steve Greig: A futuristic clock from the 1920’s 😂🤣
Should be atomic clock
Steve Greig: I was thinking the same thing...
cheap hifi
A Patek Philippe atomic clock from the 1960s/70s
More watches then one need = definition of a collector !
correct
Yet does not agnolage it

@@stevenwebb9861 interesting, and I hear you. To my mind, however, that is not collecting, that is trading. Both are wonderful parts of the hobby.

For a man that loves watches this much he sure doesn’t seem to wear them much in videos.
How the hell did he get hands on a Philippe Dufour? Wow!
Do you know who Aurel Bacs is?
liam yes but still.
😫 talk talk and talk
Because Breitling suck, that's why.
