Karl Kerfoot takes a deep dive into the genius of Jimi Hendrix's rhythm playing through the lens of the CAGED system.
The examples draw inspiration from songs like Little Wing, The Wind Cries Mary, Castles Made of Sand, Wait Until Tomorrow, and Purple Haze. The point is to understand the CAGED logic behind the riffs, not necessarily play them note for note.
The 7-day "Hendrix CAGED Masterclass" with even more exercises, backing tracks, TAB, and a final performance piece are available at pickupmusic.co...
Whether you're a devoted Hendrix fan, a CAGED guitar enthusiast, or just looking to expand your fretboard knowledge, this course is for you!

Best guess might be that Jimi found all these shapes by the sounds he heard combining strings and frets… but who could really know his genius

Great video! Really helps to understand better what is actually happening in some of these riffs.
Just a small question. What kind of pick are you using and do I see it correctly that you are holding it sideways?
Is there a specific reason for holding it sideways? My first guess would be easier rythm playing because of the less pointy edge.

Thanks! I'm using a .73 "Tortex Flow" pick by Dunlop. I like these picks because they are slightly smaller than standard Tortex Dunlop picks. They also have both a pointier main tip and more defined sides. So if I'm soloing or playing lead lines, I'll generally use the pointy tip. For rhythm stuff I gravitate towards the side because it seems to glide across the strings easier and has a less direct "pointy" sound to the chords. Playing on the side is pretty personal to me I would say, so definitely take that with a grain of salt! It's just something my hands and ears gravitate towards. Thanks for checking out the vid!
