If you know your pentatonics and the common barre chords you can literally play all over the fretboard in a Hendrix style with just this one lesson. Amazing work and exactly what I needed in my playing! Thank you

Adding double stops between full chords to make rhythm playing more melodic/to add more movement/complexity is the best thing I've ever come across to make rhythm playing more interesting. I played guitar for 20 years before learning about this - wish I came across the concept sooner...total game changer. Great lesson too as always! :)

Omg .. just omg.. my cousin grew up listening to me play guitar and was influenced to start playing and I started playing in 94', hes also 10yrs younger than me but actually knows more than I do about theory. I love that he knows more and he pushes me to be better. For years he's been telling me to learn how to play through chord changes but I didn't know where to start because everyone else who explained it made it sound complicated. I taught myself how to play blues starting back in 98' and I knew all the pentatonic shapes and the double stop tricks but I didn't know how to connect them in the way you just showed in this video. This is personally one of the biggest lessons of my musical life so thank you for this.

I’ve been on a Hendrix grind for a few months and have watched dozens of videos. I must say this is the most informative video I have seen in regards to his playing style. Being able to simplify major and minor chords and the pentatonic shapes underneath them has completely changed my view on the fretboard. Just need to memorize a few notes and the rest falls into place. I can’t thank you enough you’ve earned yourself a subscriber. Love the strat but love the tone even more.

@@BrettPapa No problem Brett, and I want to be specific so you know just how serious I am: I'm a metal player who has played pentatonics/natural minor without any real theory for years. The way you related the sounds and chords to the pentatonic scale positions combined what I'm learning about chords(triads theory etc) with what I already knew about pentatonics in a way that was just perfect. I already had the finger dexterity but now I'm associating all of these phrases with their chordal function and emotional effect with pentatonics bridging it all. Well done. I honestly didn't even realize I knew pentatonics that well all over the fretboard.

I owe you a MAJOR thanks and it has nothing to do with the Hendrix lesson in itself. Your pentatonic positions freaked me out for a second. So I paused your vid and Googled "MAJOR" pentatonic positions. At first I thought I was going to have to learn all new pentatonics. Well, I already knew them and I knew them very well actually. What I never did was shift the whole bunch. See I learned the positions minor over MAJOR chords. That's what I knew and that's what I played. I've been stuck in minor my whole life trying to be melodic LOLOL
So when you played the pentatonic with the MAJOR chord. I thought WOW that sounds sweeter to my ears. I had to dig deeper !

Incredible lesson...as others have mentioned, it requires some fundamentals. IMO, recommend if you don't know them already, go learn CAGED pentatonic positions until you are comfortable, and then come back to this lesson. With those two things and some practice you could immediately jump to sounding very good. I've done a bunch of other lessons/courses across multiple pay sites, and I've enjoyed them all, but I don't think anything has been as big of a direct line path to a totally attainable style of play that sounds awesome. Brett definitely gives you the exact right few elements from an endless sea of potential options.

I’ve struggled with the thumb thing for years but I’ve been forced into it lately because of wrist pain when playing a ‘traditional’ barre chord. Your tips here have really helped👍. When you get into it (if you can) the thumb over the top approach is so much more comfortable. Thanks Brett!

I’ve realized rather than memorizing all the pentatonic positions alone I can visualize them by mentally attaching them to chord shapes. It’s funny because I’ve found learning about Hendrix playing style has taught me more about guitar than anything else.

    Hi Brett
Just the lesson I needed. Always wanted to learn how to play and use double stops. However, could never find a lesson that explained it so well. Learning where the double stops come from and relating them to the pentatonic scales gives me a chance of actually learning and using these ideas to move forward in my playing. Thank you for creating such a great lesson. 👍
