If you know your pentatonics and the common barre chords you can literally play all over the fretboard in a Hendrix style with just this one lesson. Amazing work and exactly what I needed in my playing! Thank you
Magical
Thank you for saying "play in a Hendrix style" rather than "play just like Hendrix".
This lesson feels like it's in the realm of when a magician shows how they've done their tricks. Thanks so much for breaking the magician's code for us! Definitely putting this lesson in my "Must Have Guitar Tutorials".
Thanks so much Jeff! Glad you like the vids! Glad to hear they are working for you.
Dude you ain't jokin! Played all my life, even a few Hendrix songs. I'm 8 mins into the video and I need to stop and practice these totally new to me things!😃
@@sau1itud366 So true. It’s amazing and great analogy.
Definitely hands down.
Long time comin
Adding double stops between full chords to make rhythm playing more melodic/to add more movement/complexity is the best thing I've ever come across to make rhythm playing more interesting. I played guitar for 20 years before learning about this - wish I came across the concept sooner...total game changer. Great lesson too as always! :)
Thanks for checking it out Nathan!
One year looking parts of this fabelous tutorial. Still learnig guitar riff and solo earing melodies, beautiful melodies. Thanks againt Brett Papa
That's awesome! Thanks for watching!
Been trying to figure out how to do this since I started playing 5 years ago!! I feel like I just discovered the holy grail
YES! Great news! Thanks for watching!
Without a doubt the best Hendrix embellishment lesson on RUclips right now. Beautifully taught. Thx Pap.
Wow thanks!!
Yes... Thanks Papa
I agree 100%.
Totes!
Yeah the best Hendrix lesson. It covers everything from regularly used licks, major chord embellishment, minor chord embellishments and how it all relates to the cages system. Nice. Why didn't Papa put this out sooner?
One of the best guitar tutorial I’ve seen…Thanks!
Awesome to hear! Glad you liked it!
Well damn my understanding of how to use pentatonics in a musical way has now just opened up! Thanks so much Brett
!
That's awesome! Glad it helped!
Man your tone here in the intro was great, some of the best Strat tones heard man.
Wow thanks! Glad you liked it!
How you get that tone
@@donefinished probably either a transparent overdrive or a fuzz on low gain
@@gunkanjima3408 is that those extra little boxes you can attach ? Sorry I don’t know the proper terms haha
I love this lesson. Going through it a number of times. The various pentatonic scales being attached to certain kinds of chords is so helpful!
Glad you like the concept! Thanks for tuning in!
I just made a video teaching what you teach but just as it pertains to soloing. Thanks for the idea!
Brett Papa Another level is applying those pentatonic scale positions to the appropriate modes!
You made a video like this YEARS ago and it changed everything about my playing. It helped me understand scale shapes, chord tones, triads, progressions, etc. This video, on the same subject, is even better!!!! You are THE BEST Hendrix guitar teacher on RUclips, hands down.
Awesome to hear man! Thanks so much for checking it out and the kind words!
Go and check out Dave Simpsons channel for a little extra tips. Really good job Brett Papa!
This is the most fun I've had playing guitar in a long time. way to go Brett
Awesome Thom! Glad you liked it!
I’ve never heard the correlation between chord shapes and pentatonic boxes before. When the triad was thrown in I had to rethink how big the fretboard is. Thanks for condescending it for me . Great lesson
Sure thing! Thanks for watching!
There are several lessons on major pentatonic rhythm/lead, and this is by far the best one.
Wow thanks!
I’ve been on a Hendrix grind for a few months and have watched dozens of videos. I must say this is the most informative video I have seen in regards to his playing style. Being able to simplify major and minor chords and the pentatonic shapes underneath them has completely changed my view on the fretboard. Just need to memorize a few notes and the rest falls into place. I can’t thank you enough you’ve earned yourself a subscriber. Love the strat but love the tone even more.
Awesome to hear Alex! Thanks for the sub!
@@BrettPapa Of course! Do you recommend any other Hendrix based videos to expand these ideas upon?
Wow…..Incredible. Been playing for 50 years and learned more about playing Hendrix in a half hour than any other resource I’ve ever used. Thank you… You’re an incredible player and teacher. 👍👍👍
Thats awesome man! Glad to hear it! Thanks for watching!
Same
Man, you're getting better and better...in playing and teaching
Haha, thanks! Glad ya think so!
I agree with this.
Me too. I’ve enjoyed your lessons for years, since the days with Marty. I have to say your last few lessons have been outstanding, I’m not sure what it is but you are killing it lately.
Agreed!
This is absolutely awesome. Thank you so much.Sooo thankful for your time and help in creating these videos!!Brett we love you.Merci pour la belle leçon .Long live Jimmi
You are welcome! So nice to see you!
Awesome, one of the best videos explaining playing over changes. Can’t wait for the Hendrix course!
Thanks so much! Just added a couple of more Hendrix videos to the course last week! Tons more coming soon!
Very nice! Thank you Brett for taking the time in doing this lesson for us. It's very much appreciated!
Sure thing!
He perfeccionado el "rollo" Hendrix gracias a tu video, muy agradecido, un video claramente enfocado a enseñar y no al lucimiento perse a ser un gran guitarrista, que lo eres. Fantástico canal.
amazing! I love how you break down all the Hendrixisms! Thanks for this. I'll have to check out the course later😎
Thanks for watching!
This is my favorite lesson of yours. And I must have seen like 20-25 of them. Just really shows you come concepts that you can add to your playing that will make you sound much better. Thanks.
Awesome! Thanks for checking out all the vids!
Excellent from beginning to end Brett. One of your very best, from a guy who's been putting lots of good things out there for a long time. Many, many thanks.
Thanks man! Glad you liked it!
That's a whole freeking pot of gold right there in that lesson, a big salute to you Sir Brett.
Lol! Thanks! Glad you like it!
Perfect tone and playing!
Ive seen a lot of these Hendrix style lessons, and this by far is the best one! It definitely provides a deeper level of insight, and it is explained so clearly, methodically, and meticulously. Amazingly done, sir!
Thanks! Glad you liked it! Thanks for checking it out!
Thank you Brett!I think this is the third Hendrix style video you have done. They have demystified some of Jimi's playing and made my guitar playing more fun.Stay well.God bless
Awesome man! Glad you liked them! I have a whole course coming out on it soon!
Man, lots to unpack here but I love it. Got tired of just power chords and minor pentatonic after years of pkaying and this stuff here is just magic. Thanks a bunch man!
You are welcome! Thanks for watching!
Omg .. just omg.. my cousin grew up listening to me play guitar and was influenced to start playing and I started playing in 94', hes also 10yrs younger than me but actually knows more than I do about theory. I love that he knows more and he pushes me to be better. For years he's been telling me to learn how to play through chord changes but I didn't know where to start because everyone else who explained it made it sound complicated. I taught myself how to play blues starting back in 98' and I knew all the pentatonic shapes and the double stop tricks but I didn't know how to connect them in the way you just showed in this video. This is personally one of the biggest lessons of my musical life so thank you for this.
Awesome to here man! Glad it helped! Have a good one the fun has just begun!!
Would you be able to show how to incorporate this kind of stuff into R&B/Jazzy type chords? I love that kinda stuff to and I'd like to be able to mix them with the bluesy things I play too. Watch my videos!! You'll see me playing them and know what I mean.
Wow Brett, what a lesson!
The simplicity and objectivity that you have is mind changing , and that's exactly what you did it.
You changed and opened my mind !
Thank you again.
Awesome! So glad it helped you out!
Very comprehensive lesson. You really are a very good teacher. Very detailed stuff. I remember watching a lesson on playing over the changes where you break down some licks and all, that was pretty detailed and nice as well.
Thanks! Glad you like the lessons! Thanks for checking them out!
Brett I love your teaching style. You break it down nice and simply. I’m a full time pro and I’m still learning stuff from you as I start playing electric after a decade. Awesome stuff man. 😊👍
Wow man that is great to hear! Thanks for checking out the vids!
Brett you’ve BLOWN my mind with unlocking the Hendrix chords connecting one to the next up the neck. INCREDIBLE video. I’m not trying to learn note for note but rather the concepts and the how they connect. THANK YOU so much for sharing!
You are welcome! So glad to hear you liked it!
So grateful for your lessons, you have opened that magical door for me!! Thank you Papa!!! I’m still working on the thumb thing.
Awesome to hear! Thanks so much for checking them out!
Thank you so much. You are a great teacher. It took me two days to fully work through the whole video and I soaked everything in.
I already know the pentatonics and recently learned the triads and the caged system and connecting everything together was just mind blowing.
That’s awesome! Glad it helped!
Much love from Denver, don't ever stop!!!
Thanks! I don't plan on it!
Thanks so much for this! I just stumbled upon your channel and I can tell you I'm definitely here to stay! Looking forward to more epic things to learn!

Brett I love your playing man.Your episode with Tim Pierce many years ago now changed my life man. No joke I have completely devoted my life to guitar and haven't looked back.Thanks.
Oh man thats awesome to hear! Thanks so much for checking us out and the kind words!
I've gone through this video three times now and have made notes with diagrams. So many light bulb moments and I can now see the shapes better on the fret board. So awesome!
Awesome! Glad to hear it helped ya out!
Excellent instruction and putting into practical context. Learning so much from you! Thank you!!
Awesome to hear man! Thanks for tuning in!

Incredible breakdown of Hendrix's style !
Beautiful intro and great dynamics Brett a very inspiring lesson. Thank you.
Thank ya sir! You are welcome!
Brett this is such a great lesson - maybe the best half hour anyone could spend on this subject. Actually I've been studying it off and on for a little while now as there's such a lot within to take on board. Still plenty of detail I need to get right and better at - it will take a few more weeks but it will be so worth it. You've definitely got the vibe my good man!
Thanks so much Andy! Glad you like the vids!
Awesome lesson, Brett!. I've been struggling to imagine how it was until now.... thank you!!!!
Awesome!!!

Glad ya like them! Thanks for tuning in!
Hi Brett
Just the lesson I needed. Always wanted to learn how to play and use double stops. However, could never find a lesson that explained it so well. Learning where the double stops come from and relating them to the pentatonic scales gives me a chance of actually learning and using these ideas to move forward in my playing. Thank you for creating such a great lesson. 👍
Sure thing Ken! Got a huge Hendrix course coming soon for a real deep dive! Stay tuned. Thanks for watching!
The best double stop lesson I've seen. Thank you.
The best double stop lesson on RUclips, and I've watched them all. Most teach music theory, but never dig into the whole point of the lesson, Double-stops! Well done.
Wow thanks!
Fantastic lesson and playing Brett. Opened up a world of options on licks within chords - thanks!
Awesome! Thanks for checking it out Phillip!
Amazing video tutorial thanks for sharing
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
Really well done man, great to see you again....cheers
Thank ya sir!
Just found this video, those chords sound so awesome, great instructional video, can't wait to practice, thanks!!
Thanks!
Great lesson. I knew a lot of it but really opened up something when you tied those pentatonic positions to the cords. Thanks!
Awesome! Glad you liked it!
Wow this is amazing! Wish I would have found this a while back. Very useful info, thanks Papa Soul Patch!
You are welcome! Thanks for checking it out!
You’re the bomb! Papa, Much obliged for the insight and the fastrack to guitar greatness!
No you da bomb!
Thank you so much! Huge creativity booster
Awesome! Glad it helped!
there are very few things that came out of 2020 because of covid but this lesson made 2020 all worth it!! DAMN!! it's good.
Haha thanks Joe!
Amazing lesson! One of the best teachers on youtube. I teach kids in secondary schools
in Melbourne Aus and I;m definetely going to use your ideas. Cheers
Thanks man! Glad you like the vids!
Great details on this lesson. Thanks!
Sure thing!
My man, I have watched lessons from pretty much everyone and this is one of the absolute best lessons on RUclips. You put out a real gem with this one, Brett.
Wow man thanks! Glad the video helped you out!
@@BrettPapa No problem Brett, and I want to be specific so you know just how serious I am: I'm a metal player who has played pentatonics/natural minor without any real theory for years. The way you related the sounds and chords to the pentatonic scale positions combined what I'm learning about chords(triads theory etc) with what I already knew about pentatonics in a way that was just perfect. I already had the finger dexterity but now I'm associating all of these phrases with their chordal function and emotional effect with pentatonics bridging it all. Well done. I honestly didn't even realize I knew pentatonics that well all over the fretboard.
Top work Brett
Thanks Tony!
Even though i already knew how to play like this video is top notch for real and watched the whole thing. Crystal clear teaching!
Thanks Cesar! Glad you liked it!
Been looking around how to improve my rhythm playing and I stumbled upon this. Great stuff Brett. Starting to like your channel.
Thanks Andy! Glad you like the vids!
That was just beautiful!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!
One of the absolute best guitar lessons on youtube. You're awesome Brett, I can see this making its way into my day to day noodling very quickly =P Thanks so much man, you've made the whole hendrix double stop thing seem so easy now whereas before it was impossible to get my head around it.
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
@@BrettPapa Hey Brett got a quick question for you man. What strings do you use on your strat?
Very helpful lesson. Thank you
Sure thing!
I’ve struggled with the thumb thing for years but I’ve been forced into it lately because of wrist pain when playing a ‘traditional’ barre chord. Your tips here have really helped👍. When you get into it (if you can) the thumb over the top approach is so much more comfortable. Thanks Brett!
Sure thing! Thanks for watching!
Brett Been playing bits and pieces of Little Wing for years. You really bring in all out. And tying it all together. I know the thumb is imperative to get that sound. But damn even using the side, angled its fricken tough. Thanks for sharing just what I needed. Cheers
Thanks! Yeah it takes some wrangling but you will get it if you work at it!
That’s very useful Brett
Ok so this is one of those defining playing moment lessons. Fantastic. Brett can't thank you enough!
Awesome! You are welcome!
Brett Papa Just got my lifetime membership. So far it’s fantastic. Old dogs learning new tricks😎
I first came across Papa Stache years ago searching how to do that rolling rythymn frusciante does.
I can't believe his teaching has gotten even better since then.
This video is definitely one of those times where he's managed to distill what he's being saying for years into a flawless tutorial.
Most comments on the video are talking about it being a eureka! moment and they're not wrong.
Thanks Papa, you rock!
Awesome man! Glad it helped you out!
Brilliant lesson 👍
Glad you liked it Neil! Thanks for watching!
fantastic lesson, thank you very much!
Sure thing! Glad you liked it Wolfgang!
Great tutorial and great advice on how to make it your own...many thanks!
Thanks!
Amazing lesson 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 thank you
You are welcome!
I subscribed because of this lesson. Immediately applicable. You broke Jimi's style down in a way that this simpleton could easily understand lol Thanks!
That is awesome! Thanks for the sub!
Everything about this lesson made perfect sense. Thanks for this!
Awesome to hear Tim!
Great lesson. I have worked on it for a week and have made real progress. Thanks a lot!
That’s great!
