  • NO MORE TANGLED BEACH FISHING RIGS | Pulley Rig Tutorial | Guaranteed longer casts | Alvey Reels
    G'Day friends from far and wide! This fishing rig is very useful to help your line stay untangled in a long casting beach fishing rig. Trust me when I say that this is a fishing rig you are going to want to know for the next outing fishing! The Pulley rig is used for super long casts and preventing tangles. The rig is strong and looks pretty, it also creates a a fantastic system to prevent any entangling with the main line or sinker line.
    Enjoy

    Great thanks Mate, I gave up fishing & going to the ocean about 16 years ago, my wife just hated it, blood sport she said. Also my fishing boat was flipped bow to stern by a rogue 10m wave on the calmest day I had ever been out in the ocean. Ironical really, you can never be complacent with the ocean, thank goodness for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, otherwise I would have surely perished that day. Well at 66 I've separated from the wife, found my surf rod & Alvey 600A reel, done some maintenance, all good. So I'm ready to go back to surf fishing. You have to love RUclips, I learn so many new skills, it's all about 'Best Practice' at work & at play, if you want the best results. I will be fishing the great East Coast at Wooyung Beach. Thanks again for your training & knowledge.

    That's a pretty nice looking rig right there! The bait and sinker being inline is great for the surf. Might even work on the jetties. I haven't tried it yet but i wonder why I've never seen this rig used in the US. It looks like a very simple yet versatile rig. Cant wait to try it out. Thanks for the video!

    Awesome rig but us Aussies are only milesbehind,they've been using it for years and years in Europe. Not by design though,they have beaches and shoreline over there that are flat and shallow for hundreds of metres,hence the necessity to invent a rig for extra long casting.Whereas here in Oz we have beaches that have deep gutters closer in do we don't have to cast miles in most situations .Old fashioned paternosters and running rigs have done the job.These pulley rigs though are awesome for all the reasons mentioned in this vid.

    Put a bead and a lightly gripped stop knot onto the trace line (not the hooklength) between the weight clip and the closest bead, with anothe bead beneath. Will help 10fold with positive hookups rather than dropped/missed bites due to giving a little resistance to the hook, yet will still work as the rig is intended to

    G'day Brendan
    Happy to say I've been out a bit with the Alvey although the fish must have known I was coming for them. I've tried this rig you've demonstrated and find it brilliant.
    One more question I need to ask is if the Alvey spool needs to be filled. I've had a couple of bad birds nests coming off the reel and wondered if it is too full or perhaps not paying enough attention to how I'm laying the line on with retrieval. I used Platypus test mono and small swivels with this. I'm thinking these reels need a particular type of line.

    • @On-PointAdventures

    • @robertking8298

      It's the nature of Alveys to twist line with every cast. The line goes on strait and comes off sideways and after a few casts it gets pretty twisted. good swivels help a bit but I gave up on mine. They are very well made and a simple design. just a flawed idea.

    I saw this vid during lockdown 5 and ordered an Alvey and rod combo. It arrived 2 days before ld 6 when it was blowing a gale.
    Regarding the so called twist issue, is it the same for a spin casting reel too. Maybe more due to their smaller spool?
    Also, are those sinkers available commercially? I've been shopping mostly from a local fishing and camping store close to me but didn't notice them.

    Hi legend, tried this rig few days ago for tailors. Cast like a rocket. However hook up rate is definitely lower. I think that is because the main line is not directly connected to hook. I do not think this rig is great for fish where you need to set the hook very quickly.

    • @On-PointAdventures
      @On-PointAdventures  2 года назад

      Alter the sinker trace length for different species. Once the rig is exactly how you like it you will rarely miss a fish again

    • @kf8575
      @kf8575 Год назад

      Put a stopknot between the lead and the bead before the swivel that connects to the mainline. Dont lock it solid, just tie it to have a little resistance. Instantly improves hookup rates

      Just revisited this video. 2 years ago It was the one that finally convinced me to use pulley rigs.i fish the same waters as Brendan, so that may explain why I find his measurements spot on. I do frequently use grapnel sinkers, so I wind up a bit tighter and don't have any issues with hookups. The other slight variation I use is I tie a split ring, then the bait release sinker clip as all the pressure fighting the fish is on that sinker knot, and for peace of mind, I reinforce it.

      @@On-PointAdventures I'm gonna try this rig on a smaller scale for river fishing. I do a 3way setup for my grunter and cod but it twists a lot, to fix this I've done a short heavy line to sinker and a lighter longer lead to hook but I feel it doesn't always sit right in the water. Plus something like this is like a quarter of the price hahaha, good 3way swivels are pricey.
