They're supposed to do that in Vanilla Skyrim but it's fidgety and doesn't always work properly. I think several of the follower mods make that "stepping out of the way" system more reliable.
Inigo singlehandedly turned my Skyrim experience from your standard Stoic Chosen One storyline into a buddy comedy about a socially awkward ranger and her blue Khajiit best friend traversing Skyrim and getting into trouble
Inigo actually has more dialogue than any other mod on the nexus. He even has some for situations that are actually impossible to get him in without consoles or cheat mods. Like if hes invisible. Flying. In the cell that dead bodies go to. In sheogorath's realm. Why did you bother voicing this?
what about Lucien. You know the mod follower that can interact with inigo but supposedly has more dialogue. I'm still new to modding on pc but i'm just wondering on that bit
Finally a Mod Reviewer that doesn't focuses on sex and boobies mods *cough* *MxRmods* *cough* or somone that speaks like a pre-puberty 12 years old kid, you have Weekly Mods' charisma and Brodual's organisation. Like and new sub
If you use Inigo with another follower mod called Vilja, they will actually interact with one another. The Vilja mod itself is the marmite of follower mods: you either love it or hate it.
I would have definitely included Vilja on this list since she has such an impressive amount of dialogue and a longish questline. However, the audio quality was just something I couldn't fully get past. That mod is definitely super impressive, and it is super cool how they interact yeah :)
Cerwiden is also a very good follower but like Vilja the voice can be difficult to get use to. Excellent healer with her own quest line. Need to make Cerwiden's clam chowder in food/cook menu.
Vilja was just a huuuge hate for me. while im sure she has an interesting backstory its her voice i just couldnt get past. She sounds muffled and like shes trying way too hard to force some kind of accent.
Interesting NPC's has the best followers in my option. They feel more like people who are actually from Tamriel, and less like your friends commentary on the game.
Ha! I laughed when I heard the Witcher 3 music, something about it being over a Skyrim video is funny. Love your mod vids; you have good organisation and a great charisma without being too much.
Yeah, the beginning sounded a little like a distorted and maybe sped up version of Skellige, and then just regular old Velen kicked in. That gave me a chuckle.
Interesting NPCs super followers are the best followers imo. Better then all others. The key feature about them is how they have frequent conversations related to the quests you are doing. Not just an off hand comment but full dialogue interactions and if they are comments it's fairly long ones. It really makes it feel like they are people on an adventure with you. Combined with the fact that they have a bunch of quests that intertwine with each other, it just makes them even more interesting to have with you.
Support my video making endeavors on Patreon: www.patreon.com/koubitz I noticed that once one person finds an error, suddenly everyone magically starts to pick up on it as well. So for my own sanity, congrats to Frisojongen for finding a typo "Eseential" at the title screen and "convinient" instead of convenient. No need for anyone else to let me know. :P Thanks again for watching everyone! I'll try to double check these little title cards more often, lol.
Koubitz i just wanted to thank you for making these videos, i recently got skyrim on my computer (finally) and was slightly overwhelmed by all the mods and slightly annoyed that i couldn't find some of the ones I had liked from console. So thank you again for making this and keep up the good work
Some years in the past, I played Skyrim with Vilja added. She was very fun to be with, with a quite extensive own quest line and tons of environment awareness. It makes Skyrim nearly another game to some degree, as her story is well fleshed out. Though, it has worn of a bit for me, when meeting her in a third play-through. Though, it is fun to have her around after some time with others to hang out... One fun thing, though: Vilja and Inigo interact quite a lot with each other, if you have around both. It is fun having them talking - and cat-fighting ;-P
Great video, as always. Congratulations for the hard work you put into this. Good to see original followers like Arissa put into the light they deserve. Just a little thing, Arissa's quest has trouble triggering if you have a mod that affects patrols & guards spawns and AI. Something about her introduction scene using vanilla guards assets. Make sure to disable these before you hire her, these mods are usually script free, so disabling them for a moment won't leave any orphan script or corrupt your save. I'd also suggest "Acalypha" though. While she may use a pretty standard follower system (with the possibility of tweaking how strong her magic is though, which is a useful touch), I think she is interesting in terms of atmosphere, if you're looking for a more dark fantasy feeling (I basically pick mods that help me turn Skyrim into a more Nosgoth, Legacy of Kain atmosphere, but it's a matter of taste and nostalgia, really). Aurlyn Dawnstone is also brillantly written, a 1 gig follower with tons of interesting things to say.
Kaiden and Recorder will always be my go to follower mods. Along with Serana, who isn't a mod. But all three of them feel like friends to me. I've never tried Indigo before though. Mostly because I don't feel like starting a new game to get ALL of the dialogue from him. But maybe I will now.
i love CH's functions but it is very script heavy. it often gets buggy after hours of game play. IH on the other hand is a lot less heavy but brings most of CH's main functions.
My favorite follower mod is Miraak Follower+ Miraak Follower Reincarnation, he's the only human follower I use. For animal followers I have Skyrim Pets and I just download a mihail mod to tame them.
I really enjoyed this video and want to try all of these. The only one i Know is Interesting NPC and it's AMAZING. Espacially for someone who's tired of the vanilla content Thank you
Seeing Dovahbit here and watching a Monty Python & the Holy Grail reaction video earlier today makes me wonder if there’s a mod to bring over the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog to Skyrim…
I just want to say that these mod list videos are very informative and helpful, thank you for putting so much work into them, they are incredibly useful for finding mods :)
Realy enjoy your videos. I use your mod list for making my own. One important mod/tool i found to be highly usedull is LOOT(load order organization tool). It cleaned up a lot of problems I had with my game that NMM could not do.
I rock: Inigo with illidans swords (world of warcraft weapons) , Sofia quiet modded unlimited carry weight , lucien paladin armour Onean (heals everything just not lycanthropy) Serana with added dialogue it's worth it to watch her and Sofia or her and Inigo.
I recognize the music you use for the review, Skellige from The Witcher III. Good choice, the familiar music is comforting. Also, plenty of the mods you reviewed are definitely going to used for my next playthrough! Thanks for the information!
Downloaded a mod to teach followers spells and commentary overhaul, made a spellsword, hired Belrand, Teldryn Sero and Eola, named ourselves The Spellsword gang. Not much, but most fun I had with followers I think.
Her and Inigo at the same time is the best for me I really wish they interacted because for me those are the two overall best follower mods out there and it's a shame they don't intertwine.
Recorder and Sofia are the best ones I've used so far in the case of specific followers. Already have AFT, but I'll be checking out some of the others you mentioned.
My adventuring party in vanilla unmodded Skyrim: Kharjo in my follower slot, the Dwemer Sphere from Kagrumez in my pet slot, Katria from an unfinished quest, and Barbas from an unfinished quest. The game still lets me have a fifth “follower” during quests like the Companions quest lines.
I got Inigo as my follower and married Mjoll! She wasn't too crazy about him, but she tolerated him. Aerin on the other hand, was constantly fighting with him "Why are you here Khajiit!" "Aerin, why don't you leave? Nobody likes you!" "Why don't you turn around and get out?" "You know, Aerin, this constant following Mjoll around is quite quite weird... Strange behavior!" This whole conversation is taking place over our bed while Mjoll is sleeping. Poor lioness
What may be most impressive about Inigo is that the mod is the author's first shot. I really like Arissa, although I find her morality a bit confining. What she calls murder, I call a first strike in self-defense. Dovahbit looks fun, but have you tried Chinook? He is by far my favorite animal companion. What's more cute than raising a snow bear from a tiny cub into adulthood, watching his claws grow from tiny specks to small daggers on the ends of his paws? Be warned, if you don't have the patience to feed him regularly & consistently, he will grow at a slow rate. I find keeping extra venison on my horse to feed him (particularly with the yields from Hunterborn) makes this potential problem a non-issue.
Never investigated the amazing follower tweaks before mostly (or entirely) because of the picture it has on the Bethesda workshop. Probably going to install it the next chance I get.
I like the Rogue follower but her dialogue kinda sounds like a robot and I can just notice the small details like where they stopped the dialogue recording. I'm just nitpicking I'm sorry 😂
Glad you didn't include Sofia because shes uncomfortably sexual, or Recorder because shes unimmersive as all hell. Wasn't happy to read the comments and find people hating on Vilija, shes so sweet and it really feels like a naturally forming friendship the longer you spend with her. My most interesting experience was with Arissa and Ki. Ki isn't uniquely voiced or anything, I honestly got him because hes pretty and I wanted a follower I could marry who wasn't a muscle bound manly man. I also had RDO and Immersive Citizens installed. So, there I was having just recruited both of them in Falkreath. Arissa turns and says something along the lines of "I hear Falkreath has the biggest cemetery in all of Skyrim." then Ki responds with "I wouldn't believe those rumours." or words to that effect. My vanilla voiced follower interacted with my custom follower. My computer was talking to itself. Mind Blown
I had an amazing time with Arissa, because my character is a Bosmer Merchant/Adventurer, so I did sneak around and shoot bad people to help good people, but I also had to eat some of them (iNeed) and sometimes take down stormcloaks to sell their goods and sleep in their camps.
I have tried to come with an open mind but after this just- not gonna lie most of these mods shit on everything Bethesda has ever made or their creativity, even so. Without our gratefulness to Bethesda giving the ability to make or have mods. This game wouldn't probably have not last soo long with 10 years of aging. So glad it's alive today.
When returning from Jophet's folly, where I had a few friendly fire issues at the end, Arissa immediately killed two Windhelm guards and became very disappointed in me for their murders. I only ended the battle by going to Solstheim, hopefully the guards won't immediately attack when I return.
Ran accross this accidentally while looking for a video on followers marked essential. I think these are good mods. I usually don't use any but I may just track these down I always want more carry space and alchemy ingredients and I was so pleased to have my shade dog and follower with me. Being able to ride around with up to 5 followers would be great. Anything to watch out for aside from with Inago and the amazing follower tweaks? I've heard the game can really struggle with too much in one place and I have had some lag in the bigger battles. Now all we need is a mod to fix the crashing dungeon ;) Thank you for sharing
ATF is among my essential mod list, and out of all the years of using it, there is still one thing the mod author forgot to add, friendly fire for the followers themselves, he has it on for the dragonborn but if one follower damages an other through an AOE spell for example, they become hostile to each other, the only way I can resolve the fight without reloading a game save (because they will fight each other for eternity) is use "summon" so far thats my only grip, unless you know of a mod that has follower to follower friendly fire, I'll have to continue using "summon" to stop fights :-(

Yup. The game is basically unplayable without him.
