  • Most people seem to agree that the song is a good one, just woefully overused. I agree with the majority who want there to be a toggle, but I've seen people mad at the one situation where I think it was implemented best.

      like, yeah, I get it, it'd be a huge waste to use the song only once, but... it gets annoying, doesn't it? like, there are moments when you're like "oh yeah, baby, chain attack!" and then there are moments when you're like: "awh $h*t, here we go again"

      Unless I'm mistaken they didn't even mention it in the NA Direct. I certainly don't remember seeing it.

      @@randomnpc445 Baten kaitos 1&2 HD remaster was in 8.2.23 direct. I remembered that they were in one, but had to go and check which one. But yeah after that one time there were nothing...

    the chain attack theme is PERFECT for the final phase of the final boss. it's just everywhere else that it's overbearing.

    I loved that the Chain Attack Theme started playing again during the last phase!
    One last "Yippie!!!" to change the world. Or how it was said as the last line of the fight.... "And don't come back!"!

    I mean, the Chain Attack is kinda implemented that way in the base game already. If you’re using a Chain Attack and are competent at the game, that fight is ending with that Chain Attack. Chain Attack is a win button with extra steps. It’s the main reason I’m not bothered by the lack of a toggle, the way the music was implemented seemed have been done with that in mind.

      This is probably why I never had a problem with Chain Attack during my playthrough. It was the "I Win" for a vast majority of bosses as I knew what I was doing. So it made sense that it interrupted the boss' theme with what I saw as Ouroboros' theme as we were about to completely destroy this guy in the most flashy way possible and probably get even more over leveled because of it. That's not to say I don't understand other people's complaints. A toggle probably should have been there. I'm more just stating that it just wasn't all that big a deal for me.

      I've always liked the Chain Attack theme. It's "the power of friendship" done RIGHT in gameplay. Gives you a minute to catch your breath and think through what you want to do, and no matter how dire the situation - narrative, party all about to die and you just hanging on as the player, or both - gives you the feeling that things are looking up and you WILL find a way. I love the theme and mechanic so much.

    I agree with you on this one, i felt the same way actually. Ive always referred to the chain attack theme as the victory anthem so honestly it made sense to play at the last boss for me. Im surprised people were mad about this instance of the music cut in though, i personally believe the worst offense of having no toggle was cutting off any version of Words that Never Reached You, especially N's. But I definitely like the idea of a unique chain attack theme just for the final boss, I even thought, what if there was a version that was kind of like a fusion of the final boss theme and chain attack theme, with transitions for starting and ending it too. But yo, neat vid dude!

      however often you just miss out on new parts of a boss fight theme because you killed with chain attack starting around half hp

    Agreed. The battle with Z does a fantastic job at immersion with interactivity. Z barely takes damage and the whole thing feels hopeless. I understood the Chain Attack theme playing toward the end was intentional as though Z Infinity still has some bite, things don't feel hopeless toward the end.

    It really speaks volumes for this game, that the only complaint i've ever heard about it is this 😂
    Kind of has the same energy as the doors in Metroid Prime Remastered. An absolutely perfect game, so people started complaining about the absolute smallest things.
    I kind of felt the same, but ultimately.. it doesn't really bother me. The CA theme still is an absolute banger and i will never get tired of it

    I'd add an option to let the chain attack theme play during minor fight themes, but replace it with the "climax" version of the other boss battle themes when they have one (probably all of them do have one), so it's still the same theme, with a similar tone, works better together.

    100% agree, I was thinking about this yesterday you read my mind lmao. For me, it is always a pleasure to hear, but that specific moment was just so incredibly hype. The only real places where I wouldn't play it is during "Words that never reached you" and "Noah and N", basically the sad battle themes (even so, I couldn't help but bop to the music in those instances lmao).
    This song is so good it never got old for me. Idk if it's controversial, but I vastly prefer "Chain Attack!" to "Iris Network". That one did get old at the end lol

    I never was annoyed by the chain attack music, but even if I was I can't imagine myself being angry about it in the final boss. I was so glad, when I finally heard that music after over half an hour of unremarkable music while fighting an ugly and (imo) anti-climactic slime head. At that point the boss music was starting to annoy me

    The reason there is no chain attack toggle is because of how the game handles dynamic music. Playing on an emulator with the option to remove it shows how the climax portion of battle themes that are usually 5 seconds long endlessly loop.

    When I first saw the interlink mechanic, my immediate thought was "They're all going to fuse into one big oroboros to beat the final boss, aren't they." Glad I'm not the only one who thought of that, even if we were all vindicated by future redeemed.

    Tbh, I was one of the ones who was upset by the Chain Attack theme in the final phase of the Z∞ fight. It did *not* occur to me that this could be the reason why, but yeah, I really would've liked it if they played a remixed version of the Chain Attack theme in this case. And maybe not *just* during the Chain Attack, but as the theme for that phase entirely.

    this was already a problem in XC:X - you have this great Overdrive music (!), but then it interrupts Uncontrollable, Black Tar, The Key We've Lost... It's also made particularly worse by the fact it's so easy to get into Overdrive in that game. Also, IIRC the Overdrive theme melded in and out with the battle theme, having its own playback continued as if two tracks we're just changing levels, and that melding didn't always pan out great.
    I mean, I am complaining, but Wir Fliegen is my favorite X theme (probably my favorite theme in the series for some reason, and yes - I hate the horrible German accent but then again Uncontrollable also suffers from accent and is still the best Unique/Tyrant theme in the series...). Damn, X had some serious soundtrack just because of them vocals being so powerful!

    Dunno if someone already mentioned this but think about it, 99% of the game the chain attack theme plays, and it's only during the Z fight where it doesn't. By reintroducing it in the very final phase, you could say we've gone.....
    full circle. Ouroboros.

    Will you, or have you been able to make videos about the OST notes from XC2 and DE? I have a link the them online for DE, but for XC2, I've only found people translating up through disc 2

    it works really, REALLY well if you don't use a chain attack at all until right before he's dead and just overkill the shit out of him. it's like, you tried to trap humanity in an endless cycle of war until the world died. we bashed our way in here to dethrone you, went through a nearly one-hour-long boss fight with a huge sequence of phases, staring at your hideous face the entire time. we've all come together and it's come to this and you're FINALLY almost done. now, we're gonna have fun with this. it's the downhill home stretch and you just hear that victorious theme that's been in place the whole game used in a whole new way, a whole new context, after fighting your way through an insanely long rock opera. it's the most fun victory lap ever and i was smiling ear to ear while i tried to make the damage multiplier go up and up and up on his dumb ass. the best fuckin mega spinning edge you'll ever end a chain attack with
    if you use a chain attack midway through the fight, i think the music breaks the pacing similarly to every other instance in the game in a worse way than is possible in literally any other fight

    I think that making the climax version of a song the chain attack theme might be a good idea. The song is darn climactic so yeah using it for the chain attack would be good

    I’m ngl I laughed when the chain attack music started playing in the final boss fight. I think it would’ve been a cool moment if the chain attack music didn’t already interrupt everything else, but with the context of how it works ingame it’s just insult to injury

    I can understand that people can be annoyed by chain attack music but I cannot understand that there is more complain about the chain attack music than the *GODDAMN MENU MUSIC!!* THIS is way worse but I never see people complaining about! Sometimes, I don't wanna go in the menu because of this but you have to! It was especially painfull when I discovered the new music on Future Redeemed's area!
    Actually, I never complained about the chain attack music . I always loved it. Sometimes less than others but I never hated it. *It's actually THIS music that convainced me to buy the game in the first place!* as someone who at this point only played XC1 on Wii. Because I found that this music on the trailer had the Xenoblade vibe that I loved on the first game.
    And at the beginning, I didn't really like xc3 because I was always comparing it to the first game despite it's quality. But this is when this song was first played on the game and furthermore on the chain attack system, something that was already cool in xc1 but became way cooler in xc3 that I started to really really like this game

    imo, special boss themes should’ve each had a special chain attack theme to thread into them. i know that’s a pretty huge ask of the composers and musicians, but it would’ve really enhanced chain attacks as a mechanic. a girl can dream lol

    I know I’m definitely in the minority with this opinion, and that’s fine, but I honestly liked the chain attack theme being implemented in most of the story fights. It gives that hype sense of rallying together to take on a tough opponent, and with how powerful the chain attacks are in this game you’ll usually end up taking them down if you know what you’re doing, making the hype even more apparent. The only real story fights that I really didn’t care for the use of the theme were probably N’s chapter 7 fight and while you’re still fighting Joren and D seperately at the end of chapter 6. Besides for those and possibly the Shania fight in Sena’s side story I really enjoyed the chain attack theme hyping up the final blows after slowly pushing the health bar down.
    A toggle for those who wanted it would be nice tho.

    People complaining about the chain attack music, I'm complaining about the chain order. I dont want fiona as a first order and she doesn't come up at times when it's the second or third chain.

    7:00 I actually didn’t chain attack at all during that phase because the boss dragged on so long that I just completely turned off my brain and watched the fireworks with as little thinking as possible

    I think ff14 did a good job in that regard with the Endwalker bossfight where it literaly changes to I am the boss now as well, heck even the boss behavior changes to a panic mode.

    Personally i like the chain attack music but i get why people don't, Personally what i would do is make the chain attack song the same song you are listening to but whit ether added instruments or vocals

    So I guess I am in the vast minority but I had absolutely no issue with the chain attack music coming on. I always saw it as a point in the fight where the party members were in an intense focus and their team work went to another level and that music was a representation of that, beyond what they typically did during any other point of the battle. I guess, to me, turning off the chain attack music would be like turning off the cornered music in Ace Attorney, the music does serve a purpose for representation of a moment in the fight distinct from the typical ongoing a of a fight

    I will just say this, if the chain attack music wasnt so... Present... in the rest of the game, it would not have the same impact here. During the Z fight you do multiple chain attacks and it never interrupts the boss theme. The way I see it its not the Chain attack music playing once the queens joing in althought it does. But when the chain attack music played, I knew... I just knew. The boss was killable... And indeed it was. I finished the chain attack and Z the fight was over. Realizing the boss was killable after a 50ish minutes fight by means of the Chain attack music is one of the hypest moments Ive experienced in my 20 years of gaming and I will never understand why people bitch so much about not being able to turn it off. I love MY enrage battle themes and will die on this hill.

    50 minutes for normal. Took me 3 hours on heart. I do not recommend it unless you want to fight it for 3 hours because you get spit out to the very beginning in the shackle part takes forever

    So basically like Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's "final" battle. That one is even more scripted, but I think that making Z♾️ a bit scripted in the end, and even maybe making the end seamlessly go into the cutscene, would've been nice.
    Good food for thought. Not that I'd like it being everywhere, but applying such stuff sparingly makes for narrative impact.

    the chain attack song is a good tune on its own, but there should've been chain attack "remix" of the respective battle themes currently playing... also the battle theme (and menu theme in 3, which, again, is a good tune, but...) shouldn't always play unless the enemy poses a real threat to your party (because I want to listen to the field music, dammit! Like FF12, that didn't have a battle theme, only a boss battle theme... or like a "battle remix" of the field theme, like a dynamic OST, they already have day and night field themes, why not this?), but that's more about all of the xenoblade games than xenoblade 3 alone... and one of my nitpicks about the series ^^

    gonna play the bad guy for a minute, and most assuredly get dumped on for it, but they don't care about people wanting a chain attack music toggle. i have no explicit proof for this, just the few times they've done this before. In xenoblade 1, whenever you broke a vision tag, that utterly dogshit mood-killer song "Visions of the Future" or whatever it was called interrupted literally every song. and i don't recall anyone complaining about that. some people were adamant that it was totally acceptable. and if people did complain about it, they didn't change it in definitive edition. then people complained about "Wir Fliegen" from xenoblade x overriding everything. but that song at least ended when overdrive ended. and most people didn't know how to use overdrive properly since no one read the like 140 page e-manual, and the game was just horrible at tutorials. but they never patched in a toggle for the overdrive music, and they were more than capable of doing that. this is the way i see it, Takahashi paid a guy probably a lot of money, given how popular the xenoblade OSTs got, to make a song for chain attacks, so he was damn sure gonna get his money's worth out of it. look i get it, you would like to turn it off, but it probably won't happen and everyone just needs to let it go.

    Sorry but I honestly don’t think it matters how “thematic” it is for the game to force play the chain attack theme only at the very end of Z’s final phase. The main point of the disdain for the chain attack theme is that it’s interrupting wherever you are in the current song to play a completely different one instead, without any regard for the tone being set by the currently playing song.
    While you CAN make the argument that it is fitting to the tone as you’ve now gained the upper hand against Z, it’s still gonna be interrupting right in the middle of the final boss theme, no dynamic transitions or anything. Wanna know what IS a good use of dynamic music to set the scene for this climatic moment? The banger guitar part in the SONG ALREADY PLAYING (Showdown with Z). This guitar part doesn’t get added on top of the song until you actually reach the final phase, but when it does, it effortlessly transitions in, rallying your spirits to say “this is it, just one more push.” It really makes no sense how they were able to implement this part of the music just fine, but still wound up bringing the CA theme back in after it being disabled the entire fight thus far. Cool for those who still love the CA theme, but for the majority of us with PTSD I can’t imagine anyone agreeing that it’s fitting lol

    I'm probably the minority here and I do agree with having a toggle, BUT I actually think this song is way too good. I still remember when I looked over at my wife towards the end of the game and said something like "wow 100 hours later and I still love this song." But I'll also be honest that I didn't use it in the final battle because I wanted to hear that song until I was really at death's door and behold my shock that it didn't play..
