Jeff was interviewed in a Guitar World or Player mag about the slide solo in Blaze of Glory and the guy was a amazed when his reply was that there's no slide in the solo. Fender had the then new roller nut system with locking nut and that stability return spring on the trem. It's an absolutely stunning guitar solo.
You might like Michael lee firkins who does similar effects (obviously came out much after jeff) in albums like chapter eleven- he is a mixture of country, blue, rock and jazz 😬 so the songs do change throughout the albums. Another underrated guitarist ☹️
@@lizaltman1200That was quite aggressive. I haven’t heard him do much of that slide type whammy bar stuff. Do you have any examples? It seems to me like they have similar tones and use a lot of minor pentatonics (in a not cliche kind of way), but their phrasing and techniques seem very different.

This is one of my top 3 favorite tracks of all time. If anybody reading this is wondering what the big deal about Jeff Beck's playing is, consider this - every note he plays is pitch perfect. Not great. Not excellent. But bone-chillingly perfect. What is so cool about this video, is it shows Jeff Beck trying to give them what they want for THEIR album - not his. He's open to any feedback trying to deliver the goods for a song he didn't write. I doubt he even heard the song before stepping into that studio. Basically, with Bon Jovi's feedback, he beat the solo into submission and gave them what was destined to be on that recording. This is really a great video. If there are any more from these sessions, I would love to see them.
This is probably one of the coolest Beck videos I’ve watched! Casually rolls a a cig. Telling him the to put the Rat back. Just great stuff. RIP Jeff Beck
He indeed have perfect pitch by this time if not born with it . I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW HOW HIS EFFECTS WERE SET UP DURING this session..I heard "rat " so I assumed that pedal was still in play . Thank you for posting this

I’ve been playing guitar for almost 40 years, and after watching Jeff’s technique closely here, I can confidently say I’m every bit as good as he is at rolling smokes.
R.I.P Jeff Beck: best slide player without a slide..awsome! Is there a story behind that? Man,that album is Jon Bon Jovi's musical masterpiece...He has never reached that level again
For me, the greatest guitarist of all time...... period. And yes I like my Yngwies and my Vais, Holdsworths and whatever..... but only one rules them all in my book, and that's Jeff...... he's 78 already, I just hope I am able to catch him in concert once more....
I’m with you, I love those guys too, especially Holdsworth. But there’s just something about Jeff. He might not have the technical chops as the other guys but he just oozes pure musical expression.
I always love to hear Jeff's take on a great tune. Inevitably, he somehow improves it. His duet with Stanley Clark and school days is a prime example. Stanley loved it!
How is one player so good and so effortless in such a challenging medium as the electric guitar? Impossibly good, RIP Jeff Beck. I was lucky enough to catch one of his final shows in LA, and it was like a cathedral performance by the Pope for a devoted mass - all there to get dimensionally shifted by otherworldly sounds, which we all did. Left floating on a cloud. There's only been a few guitar players that can leave you in that state of mind and spirit live: Hendrix, Beck, and EVH//SRV tie at 3rd.
Sad that we can't get a better quality video on this, especially now that he's gone. I am a tone deaf and his play on the tone just touch my soul to the very core.

Jeff's signature trem bar control to make it sound like he's playing a slide. Unmatched genius.
