    To keep the arm slot perpendicular to the body (sidearm) on a deep throw you need to lean the body. Brady does it, to give the best example; perfectly sidearm but looks over-the-top. That arm slot has more power for most throwers, not only quarterbacks but pitchers as well.

    • @firstdowntraining
      @firstdowntraining  11 месяцев назад

      Lean the body forward or to your left? If you’re talking to the left for righties I disagree if you’re talking like leaning to the right I agree somewhat to prevent a head dip and wild front side

      @@firstdowntraining Leaning to the left for a righty. That's how Brady's mechanics evolved, not only for deep throws. It's a sidearm throw but looks more over the top because he's leaning to the left. I think in baseball they call it contra-lateral tilt.

    i feel what you mean by having a wide base. A lot of my movement becomes restricted. I feel like boxing and throwing a football are very similar in the concept of generating power and torque.

    • @firstdowntraining
      @firstdowntraining  Год назад

      100% boxing is just like! A lot of people don’t box unfortunately so it’s tough to get them to understand at least QBs

    Hi coach! The packer and vikings played today (Jan 1st), and on Kirk’s 3rd INT, I noticed he had a slight dip on his left side. Based on what you said, it would be because his back foot was too wide when he threw the ball. If you can, and want, could you look at it and explain why he ended up losing power behind the throw?

    • @firstdowntraining
      @firstdowntraining  Год назад

      Yessir! Will do, thank you for the feedback- Kirk is notorious for the wide base I’ve been saying that for years and that’s what causes his back leg kick as well. Listen, he’s still extremely talented but there are some areas mechanically he can get better at

    • @Diitttoo
      @Diitttoo Год назад

      @@firstdowntraining yes I agree! Every time I watch him throw, his release is high and his throws always look like they’re missing that power. Thanks again coach!

    Great video. What are some drills to make my release higher? Thanks

    • @firstdowntraining
      @firstdowntraining  Год назад

      I would say for a higher release focus on a more compact front side and not swinging the front shoulder open or the front elbow down. So whenever you throw I would just have a mental cue of where you should be keeping your front arm
