Easier than expected, just added to my list, thanks for posting
Nice job. Complete and to the point!!
if you pull off the side and top molding around the door you will be able to paint more of the doors edges. Good video. Will subscibe!!
One thing I've noticed a lot of these DIY painters is they forget the most vital part of painting garage doors is also painting in between the garage door seams. Do right and not half-ass 🤨
Thanks for sharing, it’s very helpful 😃
Brilliant. - a high quality DIY video - subscription done ✅
Thanks for the sub!
My first mistake was not going to Ace Hardware. I started questioning my thoughts and watched this video. The salesman at the other store sold us an oil based paint, semi-gloss that’s used for decking. We took that paint back, we are going to Ace Hardware and I wrote down the exact paint used in this video. The door in the video after being painted looks incredible. I just had one question, what is the meaning of lifetime warranty on paint? I have a 3 car garage, a one car garage door and a two car garage door. I’m hoping one gallon is enough. Thanks for this video, I subscribed to the channel and I’m looking forward to watching more videos. Again, thank you.
Thanks Ace. You guys are my neighborhood hardware store and I appreciate this helpful video!
😂
Thanks for the video, really helpful
Thank You for sharing 👍
Ty for the vid. Super helpful
Awesome video.
Good video, I'm doing this as my next house project 👍
Depending upon the door material, you may also want to do a de-glosser after you wash and before you paint.
Thank you
If its a metal garage door is it not best to lightly sand, wash and prime first?
Spray gun or roller would leave less streaks then a brush .
Thanks for this
Nice
So no roller??
Thank you I'm painting my garage door tomorrow morning all by myself eek... Pray for me I'm having to do a lot of diy around my house.
You got this!
If the old paint is enamel, does it require any kind of surface prep before painting over it?
Good question Don. What did you end up doing in terms of surface prep other than cleaning?
@@stansbruv3169 I haven't done the job yet. Asked a relative who is a contractor and he advised a light sanding. Sine I posted there haven't been 2 dry days in a row warm enough to paint.
No tape around the edges of the frame? I'm not sure my hand is that steady!
What about the right and left sides behind the rubber weatherstripping ???
Hi Greg,
We don't recommend painting the rubber stripping. Your garage door may stick to it when opening/closing it. Over time the paint will wear off. You can purchase weather stripping that matches the new color. You'll be amazed the wear and tear that weather stripping gets so it's a good idea to change it out and this is the perfect time. Hope that helps!
don't use a brush! goodness! spray it would be best. next use a roller.
Also quicker/easier to pressure wash it for the cleaning.
What kind of paint shoud be used when doing it the first time?
An exterior grade paint that will work on your garage door's material. Hope this helps!
No primer needed?
Can you use a small roller, like a 4" or 6'" foam roller as well?
Hi Coach M, Yes, you can use a 4” or 6” foam roller. Foam rollers have no bristles or nap, which will give you a smooth finish. My advice is to start using a brush to get into those small bevels along the door panels and then switch to a foam roller for the larger areas.
Thank you , I leaning from you are
skip the foam roller nap, just use a normal one with a fluffy nap, probably don't need a brush, if its a door like in the video, a little 4 or 6in roller should get right in there. brushes tend to leave brush strokes
If you have or can borrow a sprayer, that's really easier & sharper finish.
just mask around with tape & paper. you can have nice sharp line just do a good tape job 👌
How do you decide whether to paint the frame the same color or a different color?
Hi There - Painting the frame will depend on if you have other accents like shutters, trim around a door that are the same color. This particular home did not have those so they decided to keep the frame the same color. Additionally, if the frame is vinyl, many people will choose not to paint it. The benefit of vinyl is that you don't have to upkeep it like a wood frame which will wear and tear over time and need reapplication of paint. Hope this helps!
@@AceHardware Yes, thank you! I finished it today and it looks great! Put two coats of primer and two of int/ext paint.
How to prevent the paint from sticking to the side weather seals?
I’d remove them first
can mask off. also a good tip, esp if spraying the door, as soon as you spray it out, open the door so it doesn't touch any seals & can dry
My garage door bottom rubber seal track is rusty and rotten and is not holding the seal in it’s place.
Kindly help me, how can I fix it as my garage door is good otherwise. Thanks
Hi There,
Would this video help you out?

@@AceHardware Well, it helped me and I didn't ask! LOL Thank you.
Thumbs down are probably employees of other big box stores
except not really showed how to pain
Oil based or latex ?
Acrylic is the best for garage doors
@@barefooboy17 How about acrylic latex?
The label on the paint can is so confusing....100% latex acrylic enamel... Is it latex paint ? is it acrylic paint? or enamel (oil) paint ? Just confusing to the average joe going to the box stores!!
Thanks for the feedback! We genuinely appreciate hearing constructive input like this to better help customers. I've passed it on to the paint department to discuss label modifications and/or further explanation at acehardware.com.
... hope you discover egg shell finish too ...
Not all acrylic paint is water-based.
No one is going to get anywhere near the quality the video shows by just watching this vdieo. Sorry
Sounds like zelenksy from " tommy boy"
No such thing as paint and primer in one. There is a reason why you prime and reason you paint. You can’t put them together and get same results.
Well there is
Never paint by hand always spray with sprayer.
Why?
I ended up paying someone to do it. Came out nice
Its never going to come out to a perfect uniform finish without a sprayer. Learned the hard way! I rolled the entire interior before i got outside & said F that. Got a sprayer & ill never go back! Lol!
Use a sprayer and tape it off. Ask a professional painter it comes out smooth without streaking
White color for garages doors make the houses to look way too old and ugly.
🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😀
depends on the color of the house
Thanks ............just painted mine white. My house is medium gray with white trim. What a stupid thing to say.
Never comment again. Please
😊
Thank you
