Thank you so much Randi! I also watched your tutorial for joining the binding together and both have been so helpful! It makes me want to make more projects that require binding now! ❤️
I made this bag today. What a torture in sewing. I tried your hack for applying the binding on one side and ByAnnies way on the other side. I found Annie’s way to work better for me. I think the stitching before hand helped squish the seam down and made it easier to work with. I learned a lot and since I am a glutton for punishment will make another. Hopefully easier the next time.
I am in the group and have been for a while and I have never understood why people thought attaching the binding in advance was a hack/shortcut... until I watched this! I thought you were attaching your 2 pieces of the back AND trying to fold over that binding all in one step. That did not work for me. Now I see you connect the bag pieces and then just roll over the binding. Can't wait to try this!
Thank goodness I found this video. I finishing up the Ultimate Travel Bag 2.0 and wondering how I am going to manipulate all of this on my sewing machine while keeping a 1/4 inch seam. This is magic. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for adding this hack!!! I have made quite a few bags and struggled with the inside binding. Then I made a few Easy Doe It bags and didn't bother putting in a binding. Now I won't ever skip the binding part.
I’m so glad to have stumbled on your video. I have a project that is waiting in a corner just because i was having difficulties with the binding. Now I can pull it out and complete it. 😀
Yeah!! Looks like a new hack for me and my binding!! Nothing worse than sewing on unruly binding and having to seam rip it out because your seam allowance is wonky. Thank you for posting
Thank you so much for this video. Wish I saw this yesterday as I made this bag today and of course, the binding was quite the challenge...but it's done....gonna make another one using this method....THANK YOU
Love this hack! I really needed this demo. I still am struggling with binding on bags. Several of my patterns from by Annie needed this info to get them to the top of Make It List!😊
Thanks for taking time to show this. I think I realized it much too late after I had already gotten well into the Close At Hand bag. Won't make that mistake again! Love these bags!!
Randi, I just caught this binding hack and can’t wait to use it. Love seeing all the pictures and info in the group and eventually I hope to be able to send some pics of my items that I’ve already made. 😊
Thank you - as a byAnnie newbie I appreciate all info on binding. At the present time, I’ve only sewed one pattern but have 3 more to do. I signed up for the UTB slow along and am looking forward to conquering bindings 💕
I’m making this one now, gonna try this out n see if it’s better … binding, challenging? Nah 🤣🤣🤣 I’ll show you later in the FB group … maybe, tomorrow 😆
The thought of this "hack" briefly fluttered through my brain a while back. In one ear, out the other. Thank you so much for documenting the "Hack" ! I will be using this on my ByAnnie projects going forward! (I don't use FB, due to personal aversion to censorship in general. Have you considered also posting on Rumble, X, or Truth Social? I would definitely follow you and your group there!)
I am new to ByAnnie Bags and I joined your page rather recently. Thank you for creating that group -- they're all very creative and super prolific! Would you have a link to Kathy's YT channel or blog page?
So… I tried this method. The binding went on the zippered loop like a dream but when I went to sew on the side pieces the binding attaching had stretched the fabric on the zipper strip enough that the bag didn’t fit together nicely. Annie’s method isn’t hard except the joining is more difficult than it needs to be. I use her method but join the binding as I normally would on the other side of the bag - that side fit together perfectly.
After attaching the binding and clip the sides on, do you suggest attaching the sides and then turn the binding and then attach the binding (basically sew the parameter twice)? Or do some people attach the sides, turn the binding and attach the binding all at once (only sew the parameter once)? I prefer the first, but what do most people do?
I suggest sewing the binding on, then attaching the front and back of the bag, and then sewing the binding down. I don't think one line of stitching would be sturdy enough. Remember that sewing over Soft and Stable compresses it, too, so it's always a good idea to sew a seam more than once in final assembly.
Omg, I made this bag today n fought with the binding, I wish I found this before! Thank you, I’ll use it on my next one.
Thank you so much Randi! I also watched your tutorial for joining the binding together and both have been so helpful! It makes me want to make more projects that require binding now! ❤️
I have made at least 7 by Annie travel bags. This is the best tip I have ever used. Thank you so much!!!!
You are so welcome!

I don't actually use the binding hack on my own projects 🙃

This is an awesome video - can't wait to try it on my next Easy Does It Bag! This has to make putting on the binding MUCH EASIER! Thanks!

Thanks that's great! I just asked to join the Facebook group. I've made a few Byannie bags and love to join you all
A lass in my Bag Stitchers group told me about this hack and it saved my sanity making the Take A Stand bag.
Thank you so much for adding this hack!!! I have made quite a few bags and struggled with the inside binding. Then I made a few Easy Doe It bags and didn't bother putting in a binding. Now I won't ever skip the binding part.
I’m about 3 hours too late for this hack (of course), but I will definitely start using this on my next ByAnnie project. Thanks for the video.
Thank you so much. I had to abandon my Easy Does It, since side 1 was such a challenge. I will go back to it this week! Thank you. We love ByAnnie.
Binding takes tons of practice. You'll get there!
I’m so glad to have stumbled on your video. I have a project that is waiting in a corner just because i was having difficulties with the binding. Now I can pull it out and complete it. 😀
OMG. This is wonderful. Just finishing up the Travel Duffle 2.1 and can’t wait to try this. Thank you!

So helpful! Thank you for sharing this hack!!
Thank you so much for sharing!!!
This is amazing I’ve made many by Annie bags and I will use this next time.
Another great binding hack! Thank you for all the videos, tips and tricks!
Glad you like them!
Wow! thanks for sharing. I better understand this method now!
Thank you !! Love it !

Great Video ! !
Wow wish I had thought of this as I have made so many By Annie bags.

Thanks for the kind words. As far as I know, Kathy does not have a RUclips channel or a blog.
Genius. Can't wait to try it.
Just joined the group today. Already learnt that I should use the 505 spray on the fabric, not the S&S!
Thank you ❤
You're welcome 😊
I love this trick!
I need this fabric!!
The Grateful Dead fabric is from JoAnn's. 💀🥀🐢
Love this idea. I was wondering how to tackle that part. Binding is not my favorite task.
Just found your channel and love how you demonstrate and teach. Any chance you could teach us how to make a slouchy hobo bag?
Thanks for the kind words. I don't have a pattern for a slouchy hobo bag- sorry. 😐

Sorry it didn't work out for you. If you decide to try it again, try not to stretch the binding so much. That's probably what caused the issue.
I first saw this method of binding seams from Rosie’s.
Great! Who's Rosie? Do they have a channel? I love learning from other bag makers. 🙂

I do this but attach binding to base piece so I always have the flat piece against my machine
I just made one of these and totally forgot about this trick!
Do you think this hack could be used in making the UTB?
Absolutely.
just found this and going to try it!! I am in a by annie group, but can you send me your link so I can see that too please

@@randisroost thank you and the hack is a great tip
!!!
Are you using a bias binding or regular binding?
Bias binding
I added my binding before I joined up the zipper loop. Easier to work with one long piece
I'm not sure I understand how that would work.
Are you using 1 inch wide handmade bias binding
2.25" handmade bias binding
Will this hack work with Tools of the Trade?
How wide is your binding strips
2.25"
