I have always struggled with joining the ends of binding as it comes around bag or quilt. Then I saw a RUclips demo by Krista Moser for Creative Grids Folded Corner Clipper. It’s like magic. My joins for the binding strips & joining together on a project are perfect. I highly recommend this ruler. Thanks for all the wonderful content you share. I love making your bags.
Over the last couple years, I've purchased all the classes you have on craftsy. Then, because I'm used to your patterns, I've purchased patterns from your website as well. I sure wish you'd do more classes though, especially on that organizer you have here in the background!! It's beautiful! Thank you for everything you contribute!
If you don't have a machine with needle down, you can simply turn the hand wheel to move the needle into your fabric to hold it before making adjustments to the fabric under the presser foot. Same thing.
love the binding on the bags but been a big struggle for me to get it as nice as yours. Results has caused a Carpal Tunnel syndrome but still love doing your bags
I love to watch all your videos....they are so helpful...I would love to make the sun visors next...is the fusible tape the same as knit interfacing.......?..I like your long videos each week ..they brighten my day...thanks sew much!
Fabulous tips. Wish I’d watched these videos before I made my “Case in Point” case. 3 broken needles later. I ended up hand stitching some of the binding. The one I’m about to make for my daughter will be so much better. Thank you for your tips.
Best tutorial I’ve seen for bias binding ! You cover everything from A -Z ! I’ve been sewing for over 50 years but I’m always learning new things . Thank you Annie :)
This is hands down the best video I’ve watched on binding. It provides the best explanation of the three different types of binding, how they differ, and when they should be used. It then provides the best instructions for how to apply them. It manages to be a concise complete beginner, intermediary, and (at the very least, the first stages of) expert level course on bindings with the best tips and tricks to inspire confidence and facilitate success. The hostess has a gift for teaching that makes it all seem easy and at the parts that may be more challenging, she explains it with clear, concise, plain language that inspires enough confidence to at least attempt them. You don’t even feel the usual fear of failure with something new because you’re confident that with time, patience, and a seam ripper, success will soon be yours. 😂 I’ve recently been inspired to unearth the sewing machine I despaired of learning to use because I couldn’t find anyone to teach me how to do it. It made me fear that sewing was actually a lot more difficult and/or tedious than it appeared. I tried classes twice but the instructors weren’t as thorough as I desired and I really wanted one on one instruction. Amazingly, RUclips has recently provided two amazingly talented tailors who are extremely knowledgeable AND phenomenal teachers to boot. What’s truly hysterical (to me anyway) is that the two are polar opposites in seemingly every way. 😂🤣😂 If you want to check out another professional sewing instructor, but one with a masculine, hip/cool, rock star vibe, check out the Tock Custom channel.
Because it looks like you've used the same color thread on the binding, it's hard for me to tell where the thread (coming from the bobbin) is sewn. You say at 40:18 the goal is that the line of stitching on this side (main side) fall out in exactly the same place on the other side. But I cannot visually see in the video where that is. Does that mean it should fall in the "ditch" on the back side?????
Best video I've seen for a variety of bindings! I have one question about something that has come up when doing projects. If you're doing a mitered corner binding, and need to adjust your seam allowances by restitching or trimming the seam allowances, what do you do for the corners? Do you have to remove the stitching and redo the miters?
Oh wow thank you! I always did my mitred binding by just ending 1/4” to the end. Pivoting and sewing to the corner makes it easier to fold and keep us it from slipping. I’m definitely saving this video and subscribing to your channel. Very thorough and easy to follow.
I’ve made several of your bags. Very detailed but the end result is great. You’re a fantastic teacher. Thank you so much for the videos. So glad you’re doing them. Tremendous help and I’m learning something new every time.
Hello Scottish Bunny :) The pattern with the tea cup fabric (38:28) is called In the Mix (www.byannie.com/in-the-mix). The fabric itself is from the "Table Talk" collection by Sarah Campbell for Michael Miller Fabrics.
Omg who knew you can learn so much. I’m saving this binding video to my favorites!!!!! Can’t wait to try these ideas out. Thank you so much. You explain things so well and show as well.
Здравствуйте, благодарю вас за прекрасный урок,очень жаль что нет субтитров на русском языке, думаю вы даёте развёрнутое объяснение тому,что показали, желаю вам вдохновения и успехов, привет из Украины
Thank you for the tutorial on bindings. Have you ever used AccuQuilt dies to cut your binding? They have both a 2 1:4. and 2 1/2” dies. They have a tutorial showing how to cut bias binding.
I can sew and have been sewing g for years but I'm not into bindings im scared of them I put them under the carpet but I'll try one of your baGs what do you suggest please
A hint for joining the bias binding pieces is to lay them down in the shape of Tennessee and continue to piece the Tennessees together. I learned that when I lived in TN. I use it whenever I cut bias and join them. Easy way to remember
Wow! Thanks so much for this educational tutorial. I learned so much about bindings today. Great tips in an easy to understand video. You are a wonderful instructor! Thank you Annie!
I have just decided that I want to make some different bags and have been researching RUclips for all sorts of tips. For binding this is one of the most useful, keeper videos I've watched, all almost 40 mins of it. As a beginner to the sewing world I understood everything and the reasoning behind doing something. The finishings on all her bags are somthing amasing and professional. I've never been so impressed and immediately subscribed after. It wasn't boring and the camera angle showed everything which is crucial for beginners and her explanations were very concise. I even loved her displays of various colourful bags and would purchase one compare to when I see other project and I think who in the world would purchase that! I found my go to for tutorials and her videos are not boring. I will also be purchasing the "ByAnnie Stiletto" as looks like a useful tool in many ways.Thank you Annie for a wonderful video and helpful video tutorial.
Thank you for this tutorial! Not only are the directions clear, the production quality is great and I was able to learn a lot about bias binding BEFORE I tried it for the first time. I also find it very helpful to just watch someone actually sewing. I'm fairly new to sewing, and I never really understood how to use my stiletto for this type of application.
Wow girl where have you been all my sewing life, you make things so much easier . This is by far the best video for sewing projects and ALL sewing center should have classes using your methods .
Annie is the BEST teacher! I love her project patterns and her well-designed stiletto is a wonderful tool. Thanks for this new video. I will save it for reference.
For the bindings on the side of the road trip bag, the side bindings go on after the side and top bindings are on and is says to overlap those bindings and tuck them in. I can’t find a clean way to do that. A friend who made the road trip bag a while ago said there was a video to cover that, neither of us could find it now. Otherwise this video covers lots of biding information.
I absolutely love watching your videos, you do a excellent job explaining everything. It's funny because I've watched some of your videos and then my fiance bought a pattern for me to make a bag for her. We will see soon how well I do lol. Thank you again.
Thank you so very much for your thorough, exemplary method of instruction and pace of instruction, AND your sweet and gentle manner. I'm an international viewer and it's a relief not to have to listen to what are often very fast and loud speech. Thank you, once again.
Wow, Beautiful Bindings is right! Thank you so much for so many excellent tips. This is an incredible video that makes me feel I could master bindings yet. You are a superb seamstress and have such a lovely teaching manner. Thanks again.
Luckily for the Join of the binding ends - At 28.35 - I had 2 x triangle rulers to do this - tricky but doable. Anyone try it without those rulers? Make sure you have the cut ( join) in the same direction as Annie. Just go slow, it works
Thank you so much for this helpful video on binding. I always shy away from projects with binding because it never looks neat to me. This video was so helpful i am ready to practice and try again. This is one of the most helpful videos I have seen. Thanks again!
I love this video.....I still would like a cheat sheet. I know you said 3 free patterns are good reference but here are things/tips that you gave that I had to re-watch or try to find. What width to cut your bias binding based on thickness of a project? Not to press the binding and pin it every 3 inches. I may have to make my own cheat sheet because my computer is down stairs and I am sewing upstairs....Just a suggestion. But thanks for the wonderful video.
Your method of attaching the binding where are you are overlapping it is way too complicated. if I can remember I will post a video from The crafty Gemini, off the top of my head I believe all she does is overlaps one and the exact same measurement as the width of your binding. Just so much simpler than what you were showing
This is one of the best videos on binding!
I have always struggled with joining the ends of binding as it comes around bag or quilt. Then I saw a RUclips demo by Krista Moser for Creative Grids Folded Corner Clipper. It’s like magic. Thanks so much!
I have honestly never seen such beautiful bags here in Queensland Australia. Absolutely stunning and very unique.
Thanks so much! There are many ByAnnie fans in Australia. Ask at your local quilt shop. You might be pleasantly surprised!
I believe this is the best tutorial on binding! Thank you for sharing your Stitchy experience with us!
Glad it was helpful!

Good information. Thanks for sharing. 😊
Excellent video. Thank you so much for the information.
If you don't have a machine with needle down, you can simply turn the hand wheel to move the needle into your fabric to hold it before making adjustments to the fabric under the presser foot. Same thing.
Loooove this, all those beautiful bags,
love the binding on the bags but been a big struggle for me to get it as nice as yours. Results has caused a Carpal Tunnel syndrome but still love doing your bags

Brilliant video - so much good learing. Thank you!
Fabulous tips. Wish I’d watched these videos before I made my “Case in Point” case. 3 broken needles later. I ended up hand stitching some of the binding. The one I’m about to make for my daughter will be so much better. Thank you for your tips.
Glad it was helpful! We had to learn the hard way, too. It must be a rite of passage for bag-makers!
Awesome video!
wow the zipper and side panel binding is a great idea. thank you!
I can never find the patterns to all of these bags on your website?! Where do I find them? Great tutorial!
Love your videos. You showed a tote bag in the beginning. I was wondering the name and do you have the pattern.
great timing, i am just doing some binding tonight!
I'm really struggling with binding such thick seams... what am I missing?
Best tutorial I’ve seen for bias binding ! You cover everything from A -Z ! I’ve been sewing for over 50 years but I’m always learning new things . Thank you Annie :)

Be careful not to stab your finger with your stilleto. Hence, the need for the bandaid.

What is the name of the pattern with the tea cups? TYSM!
Hello Scottish Bunny :)

Wow, thank you so much for this! I have been sewing for a very very long time, but I still learned new techniques in this video. Much appreciated!
