I can't help but imagine the first moments of Dave's life from his little newborn perspective, animated like a Pixar/Disney movie...what a dramatic move. Your first moments of life you're suddenly in danger, when a hand bigger than your whole body scoops you away from certain death, holds you close, and returns you to your mother... Even if Dave can't explicitly remember this moment, it's no surprise that he loves Jackson, and that his scent means safety and love.
I read someplace that a cat forms a strong bond like this with only one person. That they can like other members of the household, but only share that tight bond with one person.

If someone pets them exactly how they want or they feel cosy to sit around you they are mates for life. But I think in every animal if you give them love they will love you back no doubt. Dave here has a soft spot for this girl's boyfriend though.

We had a fire alarm in my apartment building I ran from my cousin's apartment which is the fourth floor to the other side of the building to make sure my hamsters and my guniea pig were okay. My mom was pissed. I told her you can save yourself, they're babies and are completely helpless. Then she asked who would I save her or my guinea rats as she calls them. I told her I love her. She's still using that one against me. 🤣🤣🤣

She just turned 6 years old on October 18th and since the day she left her mom to explore us, she chose my husband as her hooman. I love her so much and she does love on me from time to time when he’s not in the room. But the moment he walks thru the door she’s all his 😢 lol.
You just reminded me of something similar... My fiance and I had rescued a cat off the street. He was pretty aggressive, and when he wasn't hitting or biting someone, he would just be curled up on the bed snoring loudly like he owned the place. One day my fiance and I were watching TV in the bedroom with the cat curled up at the end of the bed snoring loudly. Suddenly I realized he wasn't snoring anymore. His body also wasn't moving at all. I freaked out! Luckily, my fiance jumped into action. He tried to wake the cat up but he was limp. So my fiance started breathing into his snout like idk maybe he thought that's how CPR is done, but miraculously the cat came back to us! My fiance literally breathed life back into him. Ever since that day they were inseparable. His whole personality changed when he was resuscitated. The cat became my fiance's shadow and followed him everywhere, nuzzling and cuddling with him every chance he got.
Your boyfriend is a keeper. Your cat has picked him. Same thing my two Siamese cats did with my husband (married 37 years now). My Siamese would run and hide from other guys I dated. My husband they rubbed against his legs and hopped in his lap. I knew then he was a good man. Keep this boyfriend he's cat approved.

My cat Julia was definitely the third wheel in my relationship with my fiance, Eliza. I called my cat "the other woman" in my life. She was so devoted to me, and would get jealous when I was with my fiance instead of her. And yet, Eliza only wanted to be friends with Julia. The cat did warm up to her, but she still saw her as competition for my affections. I sadly had to put Julia down back in March, but Eliza and I are planning to get another cat or maybe two next year, we will see. I work from home, so I can be with whoever we get. But, we're looking forward to new fur babies to officially start our family.

Getting two cats might be a good idea, especially if you get kittens. Let them select you, so you have one each! They'll also be able to keep themselves occupied (you only need to worry when they're abnormally silent ;)). Something very similar happened where I was 13 and my brother's cat gave birth to 6 kittens. However, one of the kittens was hidden underneath the placenta and almost suffocated so I forced the mother cat to eat the placenta and saved the kitten's life, she was inseparable from me ever since until the day she died 7 years ago. My mom called her Mew from Pokemon because she was this pink white little thing, as she grew she gained siamese and tabby markings. She was a unique looking cat. I remember mom telling me she would wait at the door for me for 2 days crying for me after I went on a trip. It was heartbreaking when she died, but she's in my heart. Here's a learning experience for everyone. If you rescue a newborn kitten, they will love you for the rest of their life. Cats have a special attachment to the person who saved their life when they are newborn.

My cat Simba is the same way. He was my sister's cat and when I would visit her he would come in plop on my lap the entire time I was there and meow at the door when I leave. One day I took him home and he still here 6 years later, lol!

On a less emotional note, I think cats should too be able to evolve trust since it would benefit them for survival and if you're a christian, then why would god create such cute creatures just to be assholes? I envy this so much. I was there the moment my cats are born, I feed them, took care of them, gave them a home, and a comfortable life away from danger but all three of them never showed me that kind of affection, also I've never hurt them one bit. All I get are bites, scratches, and hisses. It's been a year and a half and their attitude towards me never changed. People always say that a cat choses you but I guess being there the moment they we're born doesn't count. I'm planning on putting up for rehoming so they could be with a family they actually like.
A year and a half of hissing, that's not fair at all and it has nothing to do with you and likely more with their environment. That's why I'm not a cat guy, they're just too flighty and seem to acknowledge you only when the can opener starts whirring. Visit an animal shelter and allow your next pet to pick YOU. If you really want a cat that's fine but maybe go for a little doggie this go around. They're mans best friend and they're loyal and awesome, good luck.
When you have that many cat siblings the receive a lot of cuddles and affection from each other, so you might not be that welcome. How was their Mother? Affectionate or on the wilder Side? If I isn't the environment, it might be that they need som extra socializing. I'd suggest raining them to accept food from your hand and work up to petting them while they are eating. It might take some time though. For my shelter cat it took about two years, but now he even sleeps in the bed.
My brother got a cat from the shelter four years ago. She's lived with me for three. He finally gave up driving the ten miles to pick her up from my place. Best shadow I've ever had.
I rescued an identical cat to Dave. Ive had many cats in my 72 yrs of life but this orange and white "Franny" was the sweetest of all. Great personality ❤

Rescued cats seem to be some of the sweeter cats when raised right. We had one show up (on my sisters birthday no less) in our backyard came right up to us and chirped a little bit, clearly starving but friendly. Almost forced her way into our house and lives and is the sweetest creature on the planet. Love when this fellas find good homes
When i was 4 years old, my parents adopted a 1 year old cat, by the time i was 6 it was obvious that she chose me as her human, im now 18 and she just turned 15 and nothing has changed, I recently moved away to uni and im home this weekend to visit, as soon as she saw me she gave me the stink eye and silent treatment😂, then an hour later she just came and sat down on my lap and purred and cuddles for like an hour
Dave is living the dream. Could not be happier. What a good life. He's got buddies, hoomans who clearly are nuts about him, and all the pets he can stand. Lucky boy.
We got a new kitten about two months ago and shes a lot like Dave. Its just in the last week that shes started to warm up to my girlfriend at all, but she's spent the majority of her waking hours on, or next to me, since the first day we got her. I've never had a cat that lets me pet them on literally any part of their body before, I can rub her belly and play with her toes, she just trusts me unconditionally. It's the sweetest thing.
I'd never seen such a strong preference before, but last year my son's first serious girlfriend stole the heart of our big foster-daddy cat! When she slept over with him, Nehemiah kitty started complaining loudly whenever he couldn't be in her lap, and when they broke up and she wasn't here any more he mourned for months. Our kitty LOVED that girl and lets us know how much we don't measure up!

😢 im so jealous 😭. Mainly because, I had a bestie cat 🐈 like this named Dexter. But he passed away in April. That's why I strongly recommend people to record as many videos of their animals as possible.

Something very similar happened where I was 13 and my brother's cat gave birth to 6 kittens. However, one of the kittens was hidden underneath the placenta and almost suffocated so I forced the mother cat to eat the placenta and saved the kitten's life, she was inseparable from me ever since until the day she died 7 years ago. My mom called her Mew from Pokemon because she was this pink white little thing, as she grew she gained siamese and tabby markings. She was a unique looking cat. I remember mom telling me she would wait at the door for me for 2 days crying for me after I went on a trip. It was heartbreaking when she died, but she's in my heart.
Here's a learning experience for everyone. If you rescue a newborn kitten, they will love you for the rest of their life. Cats have a special attachment to the person who saved their life when they are newborn.

My cat Simba is the same way. He was my sister's cat and when I would visit her he would come in plop on my lap the entire time I was there and meow at the door when I leave. One day I took him home and he still here 6 years later, lol!

On a less emotional note, I think cats should too be able to evolve trust since it would benefit them for survival and if you're a christian, then why would god create such cute creatures just to be assholes? (that would just be sadistic.)
I envy this so much. I was there the moment my cats are born, I feed them, took care of them, gave them a home, and a comfortable life away from danger but all three of them never showed me that kind of affection, also I've never hurt them one bit. All I get are bites, scratches, and hisses. It's been a year and a half and their attitude towards me never changed. People always say that a cat choses you but I guess being there the moment they we're born doesn't count. I'm planning on putting up for rehoming so they could be with a family they actually like.
A year and a half of hissing, that's not fair at all and it has nothing to do with you and likely more with their environment. That's why I'm not a cat guy, they're just too flighty and seem to acknowledge you only when the can opener starts whirring. Visit an animal shelter and allow your next pet to pick YOU. If you really want a cat that's fine but maybe go for a little doggie this go around. They're mans best friend and they're loyal and awesome, good luck.
When you have that many cat siblings the receive a lot of cuddles and affection from each other, so you might not be that welcome. How was their Mother? Affectionate or on the wilder Side?
If I isn't the environment, it might be that they need som extra socializing. I'd suggest raining them to accept food from your hand and work up to petting them while they are eating. It might take some time though. For my shelter cat it took about two years, but now he even sleeps in the bed.
Don’t take it personally, they will warm up to you.

Dave is an hilarious cat. But his sister Gandalf (yes, a girl!) is absolutely chaotic 😂😂 and their mother Natilla is just chill. I loved the other kittens they adopted out also after bringing them all back from Costa Rica. ❤
Rescued cats seem to be some of the sweeter cats when raised right. We had one show up (on my sisters birthday no less) in our backyard came right up to us and chirped a little bit, clearly starving but friendly. Almost forced her way into our house and lives and is the sweetest creature on the planet. Love when this fellas find good homes

When i was 4 years old, my parents adopted a 1 year old cat, by the time i was 6 it was obvious that she chose me as her human, im now 18 and she just turned 15 and nothing has changed, I recently moved away to uni and im home this weekend to visit, as soon as she saw me she gave me the stink eye and silent treatment😂, then an hour later she just came and sat down on my lap and purred and cuddles for like an hour

We got a new kitten about two months ago and shes a lot like Dave. Its just in the last week that shes started to warm up to my girlfriend at all, but she's spent the majority of her waking hours on, or next to me, since the first day we got her.
I've never had a cat that lets me pet them on literally any part of their body before, I can rub her belly and play with her toes, she just trusts me unconditionally. It's the sweetest thing.

I'd never seen such a strong preference before, but last year my son's first serious girlfriend stole the heart of our big foster-daddy cat! When she slept over with him, Nehemiah kitty started complaining loudly whenever he couldn't be in her lap, and when they broke up and she wasn't here any more he mourned for months. Our kitty LOVED that girl and lets us know how much we don't measure up!
