Steve Buscemi Walks Into a Bar | Desperado (1995) | Now Playing
Not a lot of actors can sustain a monologue like that. But Buscemi’s face is like a symphony of emotions.
I love how there's a thin strand of hair that falls across his face and it's still there throughout the entire monologue. Love that kind of continuity.
And wild eyes.
Like in Reservoir dogs. He's a master. Low-key situations like, just his face. Tarantino knows it; Coen&Coen know it - no shit, as we all know it.
Except maybe a marine biologist
I like that look of admiration from the other stool sitter at 6:08, after the bartender looks hurt that Steve criticized his glass. He earned their respect.
Cheech Marin's toothpick acting alone is amazing. This whole scene is cinema perfection.
I thought that was Saddam Hussein.
I burst out laughing, when Buscemi asks,
"...Can I get a cleaner mug? This one's dirty."
And Cheech spits the chewed toothpick at him which just misses his eye! "F you man. It's the cleanest one I got."
its like a cobra swaying
The sound of rifle shells hitting the floor after firing a shotgun is not exactly perfect.
@@whatdothlife4660 I think Tarantino was involved somewhere along the line.
Steve Buscemi walks into the bar like, "How do you do, fellow Mexicans?"
Antonio Banderas starts sweating
A very warm welcome…
My fav opening of all time
LOL......and his T Shirt says Corona.
@@Johnnywhamo Shouldn't it say something like "Alcoholic Beer"?
Steve Buscemi possesses the ability as an actor to steal an entire movie with just one scene. True excellence.

Much like Christopher Walken.
@@MarcIverson Hey you found that too ,I love them both of course, love their staccato type delivery.

Shave and a hair cut knock was the first insult
Dude to his left got it, but wanted to hear more.

He volunteered as fire-fighter/first responder in New York on 9/11 with the fire-house he used to work at before he became full time actor.

This scene perfectly sets up the whole film. It establishes the country, one of the main settings, the supporting characters who serve the main characters motivations, the visual style, intensity of action, humour, suspense and foreshadowing. It's a masterclass in story telling and filmmaking on a budget.
the thing i love the most about this movie, is the story telling, the story within the story. It's all done very well
Thank you Gene Siskel.
I have no idea why it got absolutely trashed by critics. It has amazing scenes.
the soundtrack to this movie is another thing. It is one of my favorite cd's even after so long
El Marichi was on a budget, this got a bigger one. It had well known actors at the time.
I love how the guy calls him out for being full of shit and the whole bar laughs, but the dude just keeps right on going with his story.
Commitment to his job, nice to see.
"este huele a cagada" is what the guy said.
What else is supposed to do, say "Sorry...what does that mean?"
@@marvinromero9299 Thanks, helpful.
This sounds like a Tarantino written monologue for sure.
I never knew what he said as a English only speaker. He actually says full of shit?

True that, Master P: and he didn’t tip…or pay his tab !
Actually, his heads-up story was a pretty big fat tip!
Mr Pink...? Sounds too much like Mr Pussy...!! I think I`ll be Mr purple...
Mr. Pink don't tip or pay.
The way he refers to all the patrons of the previous bars as lowlifes to the current bar patrons is always going to be one of the best disses ever
Not class acts like you guys 😂😂🤣😂
I remember watching this in the theatre when it came out and in the middle of this scene I turned to a friend and said , "I love this movie "- and that was before I first saw Salma Hayek. Steve Buscemi is great in everything.
Saw this as a preteen and had the same thought…. “Man this is fuckin cool”
The humor in this is timeless. Took my mom to see it, she is not an action movie fan but she left winded.
Salma Hayek gives me an erroneous baronous
My favourite scene was when Bucho was getting mad at his henchmen.
"What I can't understand is how can you let him get away when you knew where he was?"
"You drive around town, you see someone you don't know, you shoot them. How hard is that, huh?"
"Look over there. I don't know him. Never seen him before. Look he has a gun. It must be him!" Blammm! "How hard is that?" ?
Did you two start kissing?
Hey guys don't overlook Cheech Marin's role in this scene. It's perfection. Have you ever seen such suspicious eyes? :)
He’s absolutely amazing class act 😂 I love his suspicious looks he constantly makes

I can hear Steve Buscemi tell stories all day long!
Has an espression that you could watch it all day telling stories
And when he takes a break Christpher Walken could take his place.
It would TAKE all day long to get to the damn point! Of which this story had none
@@erikdeeNOSPELLSNO But the story DID have a point. I'm surprised that you didn't see it.

"These guys were world-class turds".
I don't know why, but that line leaves me in hysterics every time.
And I want that neon sign, "The client is always wrong". Along with a beer tap that belches when it pours. LOL!!
Steve Buscemi even does a suttle burp action in time with the the belching beer tap 😂😂😂
I dont think there has ever been an opening scene so fitting a movie as this!
The Opening Scene in TROY was definitely Top Notch.
GODFATHER was also pretty good
"...full of *REAL LOWLIFES.* Not like the class acts here..." 😂😂😂

Asking the bartender for a new, clean mug when you've almost finished your beer in it is simply genius.

"F@€k you man, it's the cleanest one I got" 😅
That’s Cheech Marin!
@@Spocklee you'll get THOSE stares........
It's the same as eating ur fast food and returning it saying you asked for no pickles. Kinda fucking dumb.
From the hair to the black jacket Banderas was the epitome of cool in the neo-noir western. Loved this movie from the beginning and glad to see it has aged like a fine wine.
God I love this scene. The way Buscemi is behaving is just way too hilarious, how he makes sure to have everyone's attention for his little story. Also love the details like that disgusting burping sound, when the bartender fills the mug. Or when Buscemi says that there's "things are going on, under the table kind of things" and in the background, to the left, you see one guy tossing a small white plastic bag to the guy next to him. Genius.
Yep, the sound of the beer pulls kills me every time. XD
Actually, at 1:02, it looks like Steve let the burp. lol Look at his throat. Probably still a sound effect, of course, but it seems intended to have been him. It's freaking nasty sounding for sure.
Nah it's just another bill for the card game.
Desperado is like a great album like Kind of Blue. You can listen to it 1,000 times and hear something new every time. This movie is the same. I thought it was so stupid the first time I saw it. Now i love it. But still so stupid
How many views before you saw the little white bag? Good pick up.
One of the BEST scenes in any movie, ever. Buscemi is fantastic in any role he plays.👍👍👍
See him in Ghostworld...?
This scene sets up the rest of the movie perfectly! Love it
One of my absolute favorite scenes of all time. Steve Buscemi's delivery, the cool ass music, the cinematography and editing of the flashbacks; perfection.

Ahh. How he walks in. His dialogue. The storytelling to grip the room of those in the bar.

The mid 90's. What a time to be alive. My buddy had a DVD player and this movie - both were still relatively new back then. I swear we must've worn out that disc.
Buscemi is a complete sober drunkard.i like the way he enters dismantling a cigarette filter underfoot as if to capture the attention of everyone
the soundtrack is awesome. still have the cd I would recommend it.
I laughed at all of the subtle humor through the entire scene. Buscemi amped up the awkwardness and made it beyon funny. That gun shooting people and pushing them into the air, 10 feet across the room!
This is one of the greatest scenes in cinematic history. LOL

It's surprising to see Cheech sober and in a serious role. Steve "The Boosch" is always on point. 2 great actor comedians.
I watched him and Chong run everybody out of a Whorehouse on Hollywood Boulevard once. "Some come a runnin, and some run a comin"! (The whores who screamed were paid for speaking parts, okay?) (AND they ate at the craft table! (Better treatment than I got, in MY acting de-but)!

I discovered this movie as a kid in the 90s, found it in a basement cupboard my dad had left and I watched it over and over and over again, the coolest f'ing movie. I was obsessed with it, havent watched it in 20 years partly because I was afraid it wouldnt be as good seeing it as a grown up. Now after watching this clip I cant wait to watch it again.
