I've begun to think of Utopia every time I watch the local news and they talk about new building projects and they talk of countless millions of dollars for every one, no matter how big or small. A good companion to the book, "Parkinson's Law" from the 1950s
Exactly why Cross River Rail in Brisbane is years behind and way over budget. Now there isn't money to build the Olympic venues but at least Ford Ranger and jet ski sales went through the roof.
I've worked for local authorities here in the UK, my company provided the building services fit out on several contracts. 1) You have to jump through hoops to get on their approved contractor list, including completing multiple, several hundred pages long, documents. 2) Winning a tender is a minefield with approx. 40% of that being the cost, the rest is reliant on you ticking their boxes. 3) Once you win a project the gloves are off. The contract administrators are generally weak and uninformed people, completely out of their depth. If you can't at least double the cost then you're doing something wrong. 4) In summary, when bidding for a local authority project you go in low but make sure you tick all their boxes. Once on site, you pull down their trousers at every opportunity.
I love this show but sometimes I have to shut it off. It makes me so mad I can feel my blood pressure rising too fast. As someone who works for a government contractor, this show is so accurate.
It is freedom of speech, not democracy that enables these satirical takes. You do realize that there is a difference, right? Also, ICYMI, this is a carbon copy of Yes Minister from the 1970s/80s
So you're tax dollars are being wasted but at least you get to watch a funny show about it. Is that what you're celebrating? Do relish smelling your own farts as well?
Totally unrealistic . No safety goggles shown , what if you got hit in the face by a magpie ? And hardhats only in the final part . For most , what if a crow dropped a soft bomb ? I know I`d rather be hit with a cranes headache ball than a soft bomb . So totally unrealistic .
I’d really like Utopia to tackle the COVID MADNESS! They could include lying Doctors, trigger happy Police taking down women and grandmothers…and could you imagine the vaccine companies! Guys…it would be a complete laugh…and true at the same time. Perfect satire.
Utopia should be the oreintation for all public servents. This exactly what your stepping into.
This is how Elmar, Grim Jim and Penny Wrong run this shit show

It is so good and so maddening at the same time...
What will $70K get you? A high school maths teacher?
I can't unsee Utopia every time I see a politician in a hard hat and high vis on the news.
best documentary ever!

This is so f**king Aussie. BRILLIANT!
Best series ever
I am asking this under every of these clips - where on fucking earth can I stream this show in Europe? its bloody brilliant.
I stream it on Netflix Australia. If you're not in Australia, use a VPN and connect to an Australian router.
@@warrenb9343 btw I tried this and it is not easy to find a free VPN service with Aus routers, so probs have to pay
It's funny, it's accurately depicted, and it's scary.
This show has always struck me as the lovechild of Yes Minister and The Thick Of It.
"At night" 😂

Sad but true. We should be axing all the checkbox writing clowns and incompetent contract managers and replacing them with decent contract managers
How best do we build for the *FUTURE!!!* 😅😆😂🤣
i guess we are calling this "societal progression". beautifully portrayed.

This needs to be available in the US. This is torture to us.
Who knew that a top flight organisation like the CFMEU would ever cause problems for our glorious leaders ? ;)
Go Adam.
Loved this show. Could you imagine such in show in China or Russia. Ha... Love democracy,
Tony would've *fallen* out a window and Jim would be missing.
I mean bureaucracy is everywhere, not only In democratic countries

Is this on ABC iview or elsewhere?
I think ABC iView has it... The first few seasons where also on Netflix.... But I haven't been on Netflix in years so they might have removed it.

I live down under in the Netherlands, and I can tell you: it's not any different around here. 😂
That's sad because the Netherlands is touted as a public works champion
Brilliant and hilarious
Totally beats PowerPoint inductions

I wonder which prison is the preferred supply of Australian government contractors. They might just grow them in a lab.

Are the lying doctors the ones that have the actual medical degrees and that specialise in virology? Or the natropaths that were all over youtube?
