Okay, I'm going to date myself, but here it goes! My first trip to Catalina Island was in 1962. I was a five year old. That was my earliest recollection of Catalina, but we went out there as a family almost once a year after that. Even as a 5 year old, I remember how much fun we had there as a family. The places that bring the best memories? The arcade (still there) just off the main street. Lloyd's Confectionery, right on the main drag! Best candy in town and the saltwater taffy is to die for! Not to mention all the great ice cream shops. The best part? In the nearly 60 years that I have visited this island, the ambiance hasn't changed a bit! Still a fun, safe place to bring friends, dates and families, and a place you'll forever remember.
MY FAVORITE CATALINA ISLAND MEMORY: Back in 1981, my New Wave band, The Bings had a hit song on LA radio - and our agent booked us to perform on Catalina - an absolute Dream Gig! I remember it - as if it was just - yesterday! . . . As it turned out, we bumped into another band, Fleetwood Mac (you may have heard of them) aboard the Catalina Express. The locals in Avalon couldn't have been nicer - and for The Bings, our performance was a magical experience where we became "one" with our audience. The band stayed at a hillside beautiful B&B overlooking the harbor! My girlfriend, Wendy joined us on the trip. On the band's 2nd night on Catalina, I decided to serenade her on a small seawall separating the ocean from the main drag in town. I had just finished singing "Come Go With Me" to her - when we heard this thunderous applause. To our surprise, about a hundred tourists had gathered in the intersection - and were eaves-dropping on us. Only on Catalina! . . . Loved my experience there so much, a return trip was inevitable! The Four Freshmen didn't sing of Catalina being "the island of romance" for nothing! . . . BTW: Your video really captures the beauty - and fun - of Catalina Island as it is today. Thankfully, some things never change!
I go every year for Thanksgiving this will be my 13 time going! It is beautiful! Descanso beach is awesome! It’s a nice walk. It’s too cold to swim in November though... -Galaxy

What can I do without moving too much?
Everything she did. At 0:46 she says she was seven months pregnant during the filming of this video!

Rick St Thomas Smoke a blunt on the beach is always nice!
Take a golf cart to descanso beach. There are like no cars in Catalina they only drive golf carts so you won’t have any trouble renting one. -Galaxy
