Common Questions Answered / Install Method Update as of Jan 3, 2021 Q1 What is the red wire on the tailgate Bar Rear Sensor Tow Assist 4-Pin Module V2 A1 The reason that there now is a red wire and I did not have one is because sometime between when I purchased mine and now they changed the design of the box. I don't know why they did but they did it was actually brought to my attention by other people in the comments. That red wire must somehow power components in the box so you need to connect it to a power source. From what I can see in the pictures and diagrams the clear box looking thing in line of the wire is probably a glass fuse. If there is no fuse I would definitely add one with like a 2.5A or 5A fuse. With regards to the box please read the next part of this as well because there is a good chance you do not need it. Update 1 The box mentioned above may not be needed. This is coming from what I have read on the box from Redlines website. Their website states “Designed exclusively by OPT7 for 2015+ FORD vehicles ONLY with a tow package, backup camera or backup sensors.” www.opt-7.com/tow-package-module-for-redline-led-tailgate-bars/ I installed the box initially on my GMC 2500 because the tow haul screen feature was being activated occasionally and I assumed it was due to the truck somehow detecting a trailer wire harness being plugged in. I have since removed the box from my Toyota tundra and have no problems. Other people in the comments have also installed without the box and have had no problems. I did have one person mention their bar wasn’t working correctly without the adapter and once they put it on everything worked perfectly. So my current advice would be don’t use it unless you have a 2015+ Ford like redline recommends try installing without it and if you have no issues you should not need it. Update 2 You can get the reverse light to work without soldering like I did in the video. Curt makes a different adapter PN# 56584 instead of the PN# 55384 which i used in the video. The difference is the CURT PN# 56584 provides a 5-pins connector which adds the backup circuit right into it (pin #5), then the only thing you need is to crimp a heat shrink bullet terminal on the white wire and insert it into the pin #5 and then seal/secure it with some electrical tape and dielectric grease. This will eliminate the soldering step if you are unfamiliar with soldering or uncomfortable with it. It should also save you time. Update 3 You can use magnets or magnetic tape to stick the bar to your truck bed. In my video I covered the hole that should you need to access your spare tire for some reason I would have to pull the bar off. Not required but a helpful tip brought to my attention by a few people in the comments so thank you guys.
Great info, I'm a bit confused on the 5-pin connector. So the 4-pin from the light bar will plug into the 5-pin from the adapter, and I'm assuming leave one "hole" open on the end (of the 5-pin). I'm looking on Amazon and that pin is connected to a blue wire. The white wire is going to the "exposed" male pin on the 5-pin. I thought the reverse was "white" (or is it just white from the light bar and not on the 5-pin). Please let me know if I'm looking at this wrong. Many thanks.
Thank you for the step-by-step instructions here. A lot of people tend to avoid the backup light for some reason, lol. This was detailed. I installed mine, but I did not use the sensor tow piece. I haven't had issues with the tow haul or any lights turning on. I have a 2021 tundra.
Did this same install on my 2017 tundra with factory brake controller. It did not require the extra module from opt7 to negate any warnings from the dash.
I know this is a year old comment. Did you do exactly what he did on installing the tail light bar because I just did this to my 2018 Silverado exactly how he done it. And my reverse light doesn’t work. What did you do to your 2018 Silverado
Thanks for the info. I do have currently installed led light bar to my tundra. this is perfect match to my aftermarket taillight. My taillight is sequential. And my 3rd brake light has a strobe features.
Appreciate the video, just installed on my 2016 Tacoma using the Curt 5 pin harness and some 3m locking velcro. This made it a breeze and I didn't even remove the tailgate.
Thanks for making this video. I followed all your steps for my 2021 tundra except I did remove the tailgate. I had great difficulty in trying to unclamp both connectors. I also had to thread the red wire to my battery and voila it all worked! Thanks again!
I hope to get this light bar at some point for my 2019 Tacoma. I know they make cheaper model light bars but in my opinion they look just that....cheap. I want my truck to look like it came with that light bar as opposed to it looking like I stood in a parking lot and ghetto rigged some light bar on to the back of my truck.
i just installed the same opt 7 light bar on my 2019 gmc sierra At4 with the harness and module but i didn't remove the tailgate i just used a second person to help me slide it through the little gap and guide the bar straight as i was installing it . I saved so much time and overall took me less than 1 hour including making all my wires nice and neat
My only issue is the spare tire. How are you supposed to get to the crank hole whatever you wanna call it. to lower down the spare tire you’d have to pull the adhesion off every time. I guess that’s why they include those clips but it kind of sucks cause I don’t want to drill holes in my truck. I’m thinking about trying to find a really strong magnets.
FYI, you don’t have to remove the tailgate. I used industrial strength Velcro and ran the wires to the left of the bumper and passed it towards the rear mud flap area and back down into the rear bumper area. I did this for both my 3rd gen Tacoma and 2.5 tundra
Great strip. Better price than Putco. I see that the bar goes on top of the hole used to remove the spare tire. What will happen when you need to use it?
Ok so I just completed this on my 2017 tundra crew max w backup camera. I also bought the converter and it also had the red wire. I powered on w the converter box hooked up ( red wire not hooked up) no power. Disconnected converter plugged directly to the trailer connector cable and it works. It works without the converter and it’s not throwing codes. Go figure.
Love it your video just made my decision easy as to what brake light bar to buy for a my 2014 f150 fx4 and the connectors to buy to make my life easy. Thanks
Thanks I was just looking at some easy ways to install a recently purchased tailgate light strip for my 2021 Toyota Tundra. I just ordered the light strip today but I'm definitely going to buy the wire harness adaptor. Hopefully I get it working. I bought the nilight TR-04 Tailgate Bar 60" Triple Row 504 LED Strip. I wonder if the Redline Tailgate rear sensor tow assist will work with this light bar I purchased. I'm thinking it should since it's a universal 4 pin connection. Thank you for the step by step process.
Hey trev's how you doing my g. I watched you video and am trying to do my truck. By following the steps on your video. I bought everything i saw in your link. But am having one issue. I was hoping you could guide me in the right direction. The Red Line converter. I bought it but mind came with a loose red wire and in you video you didn't had a red loose wire on yours. I would love if you get back to me on this thanks in advance. By the way your videos are awesome 👌 👏 😎
Huwayne thank you apologies for not responding to this sooner I have been swamped. The reason that you have a red wire and I did not is because sometime between when I purchased mine / you buying yours they changed the design of the box. I don't know why they did but they did it was actually brought to my attention by people in the comments. That red wire must somehow power components in the box so you need to connect it to a power source. The clear box looking thing in line of the wire is probably a glass fuse from what I can see in pictures / diagrams. If there is no fuse I would definitely add one with like a 2.5A or 5A fuse. Hope that helps.
Manufacture notes on Module: Designed exclusively by OPT7 for 2015+ FORD "vehicles ONLY with a tow package, backup camera or backup sensors. (2019+ GMC, TOYOTA, RAPTOR, RAM will need to Hard Wire directly into tail lights)"
It says on the description for the module: If you use the hardwire method, with the included hardwire kit that comes with the TRIPLE Row and splice into your stock brake/turn signal wiring. This route, you will not need the module, you will free-up your tow plug It even says Tacomas and Tundras do not need this module and you just need to hardwire it.
I tried this method on my 2018 Silverado soldered the reverse wire to the middle wire plug that is showing on the diagram but the reverse light not working. Any ideas? Or should I just tap into the taillight wire?
If you can open your tailgate your hinges are obviously not stuck! Also there is usually a plastic bushing in the hinge so the chances of it being stuck are pretty much nonexistent! Also electric tape is garbage, It will not protect any wires from moisture and corroding! As long as you are already soldering that wire you should have just cut it Slid on some heat shrink with sealant and just soldered it back together along with the reverse wire from the light bar! Just in case someone is confused you can purchase heat shrink that has a sealer inside of it that melts upon heating and gives you double protection!
the delay gets me a bit, if it didn't have that it would be perfect. the lumen was another great one i had my eye on but unfortunately it isn't compatible with Ford's Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with Trailer Coverage and Cross Traffic Alert, is there another one that's similar that is also great?
How do I get ya to do it on my truck? Lol I hate splicing into things. Bought new head lights for my truck & thank gosh they were just “plug & play” seen some video’s & people were splicing into wires & that’s a no go for me lol Ima look into doing it this way, Great video! Thanks!
Good video. I noticed you have reverse sensors on your truck. Does this mess those up? I’ve read it does for some and not for others. I have the 2019 Ranger Lariat. OPT7 says it will work, but I want to be sure. Thanks
I have a 2017 ram would splicing the wire in the adapter also work for backup white like as it did for you? I’ve seen other videos where they take the driver side tail light off and splice the white backup wire to the back up tail light
Just check the 7 pin diagram on your trucks bumper where the 7 pin cover is. As long as the middle pin says backup lamps then you can do it as I did in the video. I’m going to assume it probably does because every truck I’ve done this to has been the same way but better to be safe and check. You can go to the tail light wiring but I did it this way specifically because I did not want to go to the tail light.
Still working fine for me on multiple vehicles 2+ years. I have heard of people having issues, I believe OPT does a 2 year warranty on the bar id reach out to them for replacement.
It would depend on the truck model for example my 2018 GMC 2500 access to the spare is located in the bumper not in that gap where the light is. If you are worried about the bar being stolen I would honestly just stick it on then. Worst case you end up with a flat just pull it off and then you can purchase new rolls of double sided adhesive tape and reapply the bar, thats how I would do it.
Hi, I installed this same kind of setup on my 2015 ford f150 king Ranch. I'm still having a problem with the tow sensor coming on the dash? Any ideas why anything suggestions would help thank you
Hey Dennis I would try the tail light bar module if you currently are not running it. It specifically is for blind spot assist on newer trucks but I used it on my personal truck and it solved my towing problem as well. OPT7 Redline Triple LED Tailgate Bar Rear Sensor Tow Assist 4-Pin Module - for Pick up Trucks with Back-up Reverse Camera or Trailer Tow Assist Package [$14.99] amzn.to/3fAbKob Hope that helps.
I ordered all the parts you listed for my 2017 Tundra and my Redline Tailgate Bar sensor came with a red wire (12V power) that did not show in your video. Where would be the best place to hook this wire up to?
Rickey sometime between when I purchased mine / you buying yours they changed the design of the box. I don't know why they did but they did it was actually brought to my attention by people like yourself in the comments. I would personally connect it up to the battery, or if you happen to have anything like light bars or something running you could add it onto that. From what i can see in the pictures / diagrams the clear box looking thing in line of the wire is probably a glass fuse. If there is no fuse I would definitely add one with like a 2.5A or 5A fuse. If you are interested in experimenting you may be able to get away with no box. I used the box because on my 2018 GMC 2500 when I plugged in the bar it automatically was detecting a trailer and activating my towing screen. Because of that I have always just put the box on every vehicle I have done since which may have not been necessary. If you do happen to try it without the box let me know if anything happens since I am curious. Hope that helps.
@@TrevsGarage I decided not to install the box and the lights work fine, I have no lights that come on in my dash and my dash says no trailer is attached.
Hi, great video 👍 I question I have for you, I have a 2015 f150 king Ranch, I have the back up camera, so do I need the Towing sensor device? And I have a black bracket on my tail gate, doesn't seem to a a purpose but I cannot stall an LED light bar on there without removing that first I'm just not sure what that is for? Did you know if I can remove this? Thank you!
You should not need the towing module unless you have the trailer blind spot assist on your truck. For the black bracket you are referring to honestly I couldn't tell you without seeing a picture because I have never encountered one of those while installing one of these LED bars before.
There was a question about the OPT7 Redline Triple LED Tailgate Bar Rear Sensor Tow Assist 4-Pin Module that I had. When I looked it up on Amazon there's a red wire that's supposed to connect to 12V (+)constant power or battery terminal. I didn't see it in the video did you just clip it off?
The reason that there now is a red wire and I did not have one is because sometime between when I purchased mine and now they changed the design of the box. I don't know why they did but they did it was actually brought to my attention by other people in the comments. That red wire must somehow power components in the box so you need to connect it to a power source.
@@TrevsGarage Ok cool yeah I figured they changed it since the making of your video. I appreciate your response I was looking at the schematic for it. Seems like a pain in the butt. I guess they had issues with it thus making a modification for a 12v supply
You may be able to not use it at all, I have removed my box since the original install and found it not necessary. The wording on what trucks need the box has changed over time on their website. Id try it without the box and if you get any towing message or difficulty with backup camera etc throw the box on then.
@@TrevsGarage Thanks again for the advice I'm just seeing this message. Prior to seeing your response I actually installed the 7 pin trailer wire harness and soldered the reverse light wire to the middle pin and connected the 4 pin connection to my tailgate light from Nilight. At first I didn't get anything. Then I realized I didn't make sure my connection on the 7 pin wire harness to the factory plug was connected good. After I did that I had power the reverse light as well as the other functions worked fine and I didn't get a error message or any indication that I had a trailer hooked up.
Trev thanks I watch videos and yours was the best out there I"m having a problem right now I hook it up no left and right turn signal and no brake light but i have running and emergency light and reverse light. I order the module and the curt 55384 too. I have a 2016 F150 i really hope this take care of the problem
I haven’t heard of that issue before hopefully the box will fix it, if it doesn’t id chalk it up to two potential issues. 1) being the bar is faulty 2) for some reason your truck isn’t sending power to the pins which you could test with a multi meter or test light but given how new it is i doubt that thats the issue especially since the reverse and tail light are working.
It does unfortunately block the access hole to lower the tire. If you can see a comment from “Moeller Imaging” I tried pinning it so hopefully it is the top comment, there is a link to pictures of how to mount the bar using magnets this way if you ever needed to remove it and reinstall you could. Here is the link www.flickr.com/photos/187679119@N06/shares/344dG3 hope that helps.
@@TrevsGarage Just saw this since I have a 2020 Tundra. I still have a lot of magnetic strip left over when I used it for installing window screens around my 2002 4Runner. So I can just use that so I can access the spare tire hole, and not remove the tailgate. Yippie.
Hi, I’m looking to do this for a 2018 Ram 1500. My truck has the front and rear parking sensors. What’s your thoughts on using a 5 pin connector instead of the 4 pin, which is what you used?
I'm not sure I totally follow what you are asking. The parking sensors should not effect the bar in any way. I would do it with the 4 pin like I did in the video assuming your truck has the 7/4 pin adapters.
I just checked that video out that should definitely work. I would caution against using the standard crimp connector shown. I would recommend that you use a heat shrink prong if you go that route just so that you can get the best weather proofing possible since dirt grime etc will definitely end up on the wiring harness under the truck. Thanks for mentioning this method.
You could, that being said I dont know how ascetically pleasing it would look/ where you would plan to put it. Wiring would be more complicated ie not plug and play. You would have to tap into all the wires.
I honestly am not sure, if you have a 7 pin and 4 pin adapter on the truck then yes it should be the same, but be sure to check what your middle pin powers. If it is the backup light which it will say on the cover of the 7 pin then you are good.
Trev's Garage thanks for the Info man, been trying to look for a video like yours where it doesn’t involve me cutting wires I prefer paying more for adaptors and plug and play systems then compromising wires or the truck itself I’ll go and check my truck I have the 7 pin and 4 pin connection on my truck
Nice Video. You made the install look very easy. Quick question, on the OPT7 Redline Triple, LED Tailgate Bar Rear Sensor Tow Assist 4-Pin Module V2 you have listed and linked up above, there seems to be a red wire that must be connected to a 12V constant power source. Did you install a different model of the Tailgate bar sensor or did you connect it to your battery and did not show that option or did you remove the wire? just curious. I want to install a tailgate light bar on my 2016 Tundra TRD Pro.
You are correct the reason that you have a red wire and I did not is because sometime between when I purchased mine / you buying yours they changed the design of the box. I don't know why they did but they did it was actually brought to my attention by people in the comments. That red wire must somehow power components in the box so you need to connect it to a power source. Also since publishing the video I've realized the box isn't needed on probably 90% of installs. Someone else in the comments had a 2017 Tundra used no box and had no problems. Id suggest trying no box first. I went off my own experience having installed this on my GMC 2500 that sometimes thought there was a trailer connected and switched my display to tow/haul mode so the box solved that issue for me. From what I understand now its really only needed on newer Fords or if you are having some issue like I did with the GMC.
Im looking to order the module, i looked it up on red lines web site. My ? what did you do with the red wire, did you tape it off. I'm having these issues about the trailer being disconnected, left or right turn signal not working. I think this module should cure my problem. I am however using a different brand of light bar.
Hey Mike I am not exactly sure which "red wire" you are referring to. The wire harness for the redline bar I use is just a plug in with the standard 4 pin trailer wire harness. Those issues do seem like they can be solved by the module. If you can elaborate a little more on the red wire I will see what I can come up with.
@@mikelara8354 I just looked and I see what you are referring to. I Believe they must have changed their design because every adapter I have ever installed did not have that red wire. That red wire must somehow power components in the box so you need to connect it to battery power. The clear box looking thing in line of the wire is probably a glass fuse. Hope that helps.
Yes the 4 pins on the adapter control everything besides reverse light. The adapter is just so that you can hide the wires behind the bumper. If you have a factory 4 pin on the bumper you can use that if you want to.
Hi, I am trying to install OPT7 redline triple LED for 2020 F150. Instead of using Rear Sensor Tow Assist 4-Pin Module V2 and CURT 55384 USCAR 4-Pin Trailer Wiring Harness, Why cant I use just one item which is OPT7 4-Pin Tow Y Splitter Connector Adapter ? Please advise.
There is nothing wrong with that, or plugging directly into the tow pin connector. I chose to use the curt harness to hide the wiring underneath and leave the bumper 4 pin open and easily accessible. The module is specifically intended for fords with trailer blind spot assist features, however before installing it on my own GMC 2500 I too watched some videos on how it could be done. Some trucks like mine have a towing screen and such that can automatically click on when it detects that a trailer wiring harness has been plugged in. I used the module to eliminate this, if you wanted to save the money and try without it at first you could and see what happens.
It is a 2014, and it does have the blind spot sensors you wont have any problems, the only time i believe people run into problems is on the newer ford trucks that have blind spot detection for trailers.
Ok i was looking for something with a deep tone and somewhat quiet ish don't want to piss off the Neighbors lol 😆 . What are you Running now ? Electronic cut outs has crossed my mind too lol 😆 👍.I found your other Video on the Valved Mufflers you have 🙂👍
The valved setup is what i am running right now from Valvetronic designs. Doesn’t make the best sounding note when the valves are closed but I personally didn’t really care about when its closed I just wanted it quiet for long trips so i wouldn’t get any like exhaust drone that I was getting with the TRD exhaust. When the valves are open its essentially a catted straight pipe exhaust and its sounds great in my opinion.
Hello good question, the bar comes in two different sizes 48 inches and 60 inches. If you have a gap where the bar can go and there is a flat surface in that gap for you to mount the bar too I don't see any reason it wouldn't work. Part two of that is do you have a 4 pin trailer wiring spot on the truck? Id imagine that you do not have a 7pin/4pin wiring combo which is okay. You may just have to directly plug in the bar to that 4 pin then and to make the reverse light work you would have to tap your taillight. Hope that helps if you have any more questions feel free to ask!
Ive only got experience with the OPT7 have never looked at the putco. Haven’t had any problems with probably 20+ installs of the OPT 7 now. I believe OPT also carries a 1 or 2 year warranty.
So, the magnetic tape idea sucks. I tried it, no holding power at all. I even bought 3M and it’s garbage. When I tried to pull it off it ripped the adhesive tape off the light bar. Do the adhesive tape only.
On the tundra it does not come on when I unlock it only when in reverse. On my gmc it does go on when unlocked, as well as when in reverse. What kind of truck did you put it on / does it work in reverse?
Just curious why do you cover your lisence plate. ? You drive around and everybody sees it while driving. That's what it's for. Not trying to be a troll or a rude about it . Just curious. And by the way thanks for the vid . Saved my ass haha.
A lot of the cars I work on aren’t mine so usually ill ask the owner if they are okay with me making a video of whatever I’m doing and some had asked me to not show the plate so its become a habit to cover it.
Why electrical tape??? I mean if you know how to solder then actually taking the extra step of cutting the white wire in half to add water proof heat shrink it’s a no brainer.....
I have a 2016 f150 with blis and I installed the same light without cutting or splicing any wires and without the adapter. You can find all the connections in one wire harness connector next to the spare tire. See how I did it here. ruclips.net/video/yxzcnvDBBpE/видео.html
I just looked on the redline website, and this is what I came up with. Looks like it will depend on what blind spot monitoring you are referring to. Do you have the blind spot monitoring for trailers as well or just the truck? Below is what the website states regarding the tow package module. www.opt-7.com/tow-package-module-for-redline-led-tailgate-bars/ "Designed exclusively by OPT7 for 2015+ vehicles with a tow package, backup camera or backup sensors. *MANDATORY* tailgate brake light bar accessory for Ford vehicles with Tow Package upgrade. NOT COMPATIBLE with Ford's Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with Trailer Coverage and Cross Traffic Alert."
Common Questions Answered / Install Method Update as of Jan 3, 2021
Q1 What is the red wire on the tailgate Bar Rear Sensor Tow Assist 4-Pin Module V2
A1 The reason that there now is a red wire and I did not have one is because sometime between when I purchased mine and now they changed the design of the box.
Update 1
The box mentioned above may not be needed.
Update 2
You can get the reverse light to work without soldering like I did in the video.
Update 3
You can use magnets or magnetic tape to stick the bar to your truck bed.
So I have a 2018 Silverado with the tow package! Will I need the module to install the light bar also?
You should not need the module. I ended up removing it off of the GMC as well and had no problems.
I have a 2014 Toyota tundra do you think I will need the module? I tried looking around and I can’t find the answer can you help me plez
Thank you for the step-by-step instructions here. A lot of people tend to avoid the backup light for some reason, lol. This was detailed. I installed mine, but I did not use the sensor tow piece. I haven't had issues with the tow haul or any lights turning on. I have a 2021 tundra.

Out of all the videos I’ve watched I like this one the best. Thanks for the clarity and suggestions, doing the same to my Tacoma!

Glad to hear that, out of curiosity did you try the bar without the box or did you use the box from the start?
@@TrevsGarage used the box from start
I just got mine for 2018 tundra… now I know kind of what to do lol
Your covering the hole to lower the spare tire I noticed.....
Who needs spare tire? Lol
Great video tutorial, thanks for sharing!!!
FYI, you don’t have to remove the tailgate. I used industrial strength Velcro and ran the wires to the left of the bumper and passed it towards the rear mud flap area and back down into the rear bumper area. I did this for both my 3rd gen Tacoma and 2.5 tundra
Do you have video to show how to do it? Thanks PandaMonia!
Great strip. Better price than Putco. I see that the bar goes on top of the hole used to remove the spare tire. What will happen when you need to use it?
I believe you covered the slot to get the spare tire down, did I see that right? Looking at my 2018 I see no way around this.
this video helped me a lot, with an install on my 17 tundra. thanks God bless.
Thanks
Glad to hear it!
Won’t this block off the hole to the spear tire?
Did you cover the spare tire hole? To lower spare?
You covered up the square hole used to access the spare tire lowering/raising hoist.
How thick is this lightbar? I also have a 2021 tundra and was wondering if it fits behind tailgate with no issues opening or closing
Exactly which white wire on the harness is the back-up wire that you soldered onto?
Does that bar block the access hole to the spare tire?
Manufacture notes on Module:
Designed exclusively by OPT7 for 2015+ FORD "vehicles ONLY with a tow package, backup camera or backup sensors. (2019+ GMC, TOYOTA, RAPTOR, RAM will need to Hard Wire directly into tail lights)"
It says on the description for the module:
If you use the hardwire method, with the included hardwire kit that comes with the TRIPLE Row and splice into your stock brake/turn signal wiring. This route, you will not need the module, you will free-up your tow plug
It even says Tacomas and Tundras do not need this module and you just need to hardwire it.
I tried this method on my 2018 Silverado soldered the reverse wire to the middle wire plug that is showing on the diagram but the reverse light not working. Any ideas? Or should I just tap into the taillight wire?
I have a Toyota tundra ... the white cable where I can connect it
If you can open your tailgate your hinges are obviously not stuck! Just in case someone is confused you can purchase heat shrink that has a sealer inside of it that melts upon heating and gives you double protection!
red line LED tailgate bar Adapter I have a extra red Wire coming out of the until, were do I connect it
By chance have you done this to a dodge I bought one recently but haven’t put it on
the delay gets me a bit, if it didn't have that it would be perfect. the lumen was another great one i had my eye on but unfortunately it isn't compatible with Ford's Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with Trailer Coverage and Cross Traffic Alert, is there another one that's similar that is also great?
This is the only one I have seen and worked with
How do I get ya to do it on my truck? Lol I hate splicing into things. Bought new head lights for my truck & thank gosh they were just “plug & play” seen some video’s & people were splicing into wires & that’s a no go for me lol Ima look into doing it this way, Great video! Thanks!
Do you like the amber turn signal over red? I am not sure since my turn signals are only red and i feel like it might look mismatched
I personally liked the amber a lot more and thought it grabs your attention well when following someone who has it

What is the name of the red line adapter that fools your truck and the thank you are not pulling a trailer?
What is the box looking redline adapter that is connecting the 4pins? I can’t find it online?
Redline no longer says that’s needed so you likely will not find it
Are they still working good? Was that a delay in the start of the turning signal?
It is still working great, I have installed them on many vehicles and have not had any problems to date.
@Trev’s Garage did you try using the led without the little box? If so do work
I did not try it without it so i honestly don’t know
I have a 2014 SR5 and I shouldn't need the little box. My tundra's tow mode is done by a manual button on the dash.
Good video. I noticed you have reverse sensors on your truck. Does this mess those up? I’ve read it does for some and not for others. I have the 2019 Ranger Lariat. OPT7 says it will work, but I want to be sure. Thanks
I haven’t had any problems with my 2015 Tundra or 2018 GMC Sierra if that helps unsure what could happen with a ranger
Trev's Garage thank you. Love the video
Are the lights still working? Everyone I have put on my truck .stopped working after a month or so.
Still working fine for me on multiple vehicles 2+ years. I have heard of people having issues, I believe OPT does a 2 year warranty on the bar id reach out to them for replacement.
Awesome video - just did mine the same way. Thanks!
Hi Trev, great videos. Is there any other way to access the spare tire if i don't want to use magnet for the lights? Because it can be easily stolen.
This video just found me 12:40 AM
How did you get the turn signals to work when the brake lights are on?
It should work that way on its own, if yours is not it may be defective.
Trev thanks
I watch videos and yours was the best out there I"m having a problem right now I hook it up no left and right turn signal and no brake light but i have running and emergency light and reverse light. I order the module and the curt 55384 too. I have a 2016 F150
i really hope this take care of the problem
I haven’t heard of that issue before hopefully the box will fix it, if it doesn’t id chalk it up to two potential issues. 1) being the bar is faulty 2) for some reason your truck isn’t sending power to the pins which you could test with a multi meter or test light but given how new it is i doubt that thats the issue especially since the reverse and tail light are working.
I have a 2019 Tundra, and wondering would I still be able to get to my spare tire, because it looks like it blocks the spare tire access hole.
@@TrevsGarage Thank you!
Trev's Garage I saw someone else’s video, where with the 5 pin, you don’t need to solder the reverse wire
If you can find the video again and link it I’ll take a look!
Trev's Garage ruclips.net/video/U5XTlgWNF9M/видео.html
I just checked that video out that should definitely work. I would caution against using the standard crimp connector shown. I would recommend that you use a heat shrink prong if you go that route just so that you can get the best weather proofing possible since dirt grime etc will definitely end up on the wiring harness under the truck. Thanks for mentioning this method.
Can you put a truck tailgate led onto a regular car ie. Mustang?
You could, that being said I dont know how ascetically pleasing it would look/ where you would plan to put it. Wiring would be more complicated ie not plug and play. You would have to tap into all the wires.
Is this the same for a 2017 Tacoma? Same harnes and tow adapter will be needed ?
I honestly am not sure, if you have a 7 pin and 4 pin adapter on the truck then yes it should be the same, but be sure to check what your middle pin powers. If it is the backup light which it will say on the cover of the 7 pin then you are good.
Trev's Garage thanks for the Info man, been trying to look for a video like yours where it doesn’t involve me cutting wires I prefer paying more for adaptors and plug and play systems then compromising wires or the truck itself I’ll go and check my truck I have the 7 pin and 4 pin connection on my truck
I just installed the the tailgate led light on my 2017 tacoma and everything he used on the video do work for the 2017 tacoma . Thanks for the video.
@@trex3215 did you soldered it as well?
@@trex3215 did you use the redline adapter as well?
So what if u need to get ur spare tire tho.?
which is the brake light wire?
@@TrevsGarage Thank you. How is the tailgate bar holding up? Do you still recommend it?
Defeniey would put it on any truck I get
Im looking to order the module, i looked it up on red lines web site. My ? what did you do with the red wire, did you tape it off.
@@TrevsGarage looking at the module on there web site it shows a red wire that comes off the module, its probably for the reverse light.
Is that adapter what controls the blinkers?
I meant to ask you, what year is your truck? Mine has the blindside sensor, so will I still be able to install it as you did in this posting?
It is a 2014, and it does have the blind spot sensors you wont have any problems, the only time i believe people run into problems is on the newer ford trucks that have blind spot detection for trailers.
Everything works except the blinker light goes away as soon as I hit the brakes and comes back when I take my foot off the brake.
Hey bud what Exhaust are you running on the 2014 Tundra?
At the time of that video it was the TRD Exhaust but have since changed it
Ok i was looking for something with a deep tone and somewhat quiet ish don't want to piss off the Neighbors lol 😆 .
Hello. Good day. Writing from Scandinavia. Can this be installed on 2008 Toyota sequoia? The tailgate opens upwards
OPT 7 vs PUTCO Blade ? Any opinions?
Ive only got experience with the OPT7 have never looked at the putco. Haven’t had any problems with probably 20+ installs of the OPT 7 now. I believe OPT also carries a 1 or 2 year warranty.

I thought everybody quit buying these a year ago because so many of us were having problems where the led would fail
I've had one on my truck for over a year without any problems. They also come with a 2 year warranty.
Why electrical tape??? I mean if you know how to solder then actually taking the extra step of cutting the white wire in half to add water proof heat shrink it’s a no brainer.....

I have a 2019 Ford F150 with the blind side warning. Will the redline sensor help?
I just looked on the redline website, and this is what I came up with. Looks like it will depend on what blind spot monitoring you are referring to. Do you have the blind spot monitoring for trailers as well or just the truck? Below is what the website states regarding the tow package module.
www.opt-7.com/tow-package-module-for-redline-led-tailgate-bars/
"Designed exclusively by OPT7 for 2015+ vehicles with a tow package, backup camera or backup sensors.
