    Knead with the heel of your hand and push away to stretch it. With flour. You'll get the feel of it after awhile. It has to feel just right!

  • @alexbellato
    @alexbellato 5 лет назад +2

    I could be wrong, but I think you have to knead the dough 3 times in interval of 2-4 hours and after that you still have to put it in the refrigerator for 12 hours and then bake it.

    FYI!!!!.....Once you have the dough, if oven has light, turn on oven light and put bread dough in oven. The heat from light should make the yeast
    Happy and it should rise. Do not cover it while in oven either...why? ...Yeast needs air and light!

    Take some of the doe away from it and store it for the next batch. Some sour doe base is years old, as you take a bit away for the next bread batch. The key is to keep it alive from bake off to bake off. Take it from a person from the country of bread.

    An EarthCruiser EX is built on a 4x4 Mitsubishi Fuso on 44' tires and fits in a 20', standard height container. I can't imagine how your Promaster is too tall, wide or long for a 40' high cube container.

    I know this comment is coming many months later, but for sourdough, try stretch and folds. Also, if your dough is high in hydration, wet your hands to prevent sticking.

    Try sour dough pancakes. Take your starter add 1 cup flour, and 1 cup flour let it sit out over night covered with cloth to keep Frank hair out. In the morning remove 1 cup starter for next time then to remaining starter add 1 egg, 1 Tablespoon oil, 1 teaspoon honey or sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. In a separate cup dissolve 1/2 teaspoon baking soda in 1 teaspoon water then add to dough. Then cook pancakes and enjoy. I have a recipe for new starter if you kneed one. Lol.

      Don't at all mean this in a negative way, I think they said in a previous video they used to make bread frequently (pre vanlife?) but specifically wanted to try sourdough, especially once they got some starter from the other vanlife couple. I could be wrong, but for some reason that stuck in my brain :)
      Regardless, wholeheartedly agree on the no-kneed bread! I've had better results with the NYT method where you give it an initial overnight proof before a quick pat and fold into another 2 hour proof before baking, but I've been a homemade bread fiend ever since - so good! I should give sourdough a go though now that it's on my mind 🤔

    • @maggiemay97
      @maggiemay97 5 лет назад +2

      mybellyisapinata you’re correct, but they kept the sourdough starter too long and the bread they finally made with it was a total failure.

    So when I'm making food I never prepare or cook food with any negative emotions. Always I am thinking about nutrition and love and thanking the food for my future health and how much I love the people I am making the food for. If any sadness or negativity hit me I cover the food and leave the kitchen and work through the those feelings. I return to the kitchen when I can show myself and the food love. Okay, I wasn't going to do this because I am sure many have sent you their version of sour dough bread and how to do it. Like you, I experimented with different recipes by watching youtube videos and finally found something that makes this a "no nead", perfect loaf every time. Here is her video and recipe. It's so worth it, I promise! You will not be dissapointed, but there are some factors that may change how yours comes out. One is altitude, and the other is general temperature of the room/van. But I make this bread nearly twice a week and it is a no fail every time. Oh, yeah, starter really needs to mature, so 7- 10 is it. You can't rush this process when it comes to time... no short cuts, except, you can actually skip the mess of neading!! link: ruclips.net/video/D4RE6usC9c0/видео.html

Just a thought, because I have heard it before from people that live on the beach, and that is way I try to stay as far away as possible.

    You can put some oil on the board while kneading the sourdough to avoid mess and make the folding easier :)

    That dough isn't ready to knead. You need to incorporate a lot more flour first. With your hands dusted in flour the dough shouldn't stick to your hands, if it does add more flour.

      Once he has done that he can make it release by adding oil to his hands, so you don't add too much flour to it.

    Eamon and Bec stuck their van in a shipping container, and maybe Max and Lee? ... I don't know if the length of the vans are different but air out of the tires, roof fans off, maybe it's doable? Sounds safer!

    Shipping a vehicle is always a hassle. I shipped my truck out of New Jersey to Belgium. Obviously had to leave the keys. The truck was stored below deck, not in a container. Then I flew to England and had to wait a few weeks for the truck to arrive. When I arrived to picked it up, it was in excellent shape, but had hamburger wrappers, pizza boxes, soft drink cups on the floorboard. But that was only a small issue, everything else was fine. Even clearing customs was easy, but then all spoke English.
    I am sure you will do well. Keep doing what you have been doing go with the flow.

    Please please For your computer contact Louis Rossmann (check out his RUclips) he is the best pro for fixing apple products. He has a store in NYC where you can ship your computer, he's great and he's been doing this for years. He can do things that apple won't do (like proper diagnostics, component level repair and data recovery). Authorized repair centers are bound by their contract with apple so they actually can't do most repairs and they end up just changing out entire boards and many parts for poor quality refurbished parts (that will die sooner then your original) and charging you a small fortune.
    Also my husband and I made dough every week so I'm excited for you guys!! :) Your dough was too wet, needs more flour. Sour dough is great but for a beginner bread I suggest sticking with regular dry Yeast based bread. One of the best beginner breads to make that tastes amazing and fluffy is challah (Jewish egg bread eaten on the Sabbath) or even pizza dough. Eventually you'll be able to make the dough without even thinking about it, it becomes intuitive.
    Also a important thing is that you need to let your bread rise for a lot longer I'd say give it at least 5 hours if it's 70-80 degree out. Kneeding is good but the rise time is a lot more important. The warmer the environment the shorter the rise time and your dough should at least double in size, if it doesn't then it means there was a problem with your yeast (it was possibly too old, killed from the water being too hot, or the room was too cold so it didn't rise).
    A trick we do when we are feeling lazy is to start the dry yest with warm water and white sugar (don't use super hot water because it kills the yeast) and then we make our dough and toss it into the refrigerator and take it out approximately 24 hours later and it's already risen and ready to bake. When it sits in the fridge it takes a lot longer to rise that's why it takes 24 hours but the yeast really develops a nice flavor. Enjoy your fun new hobby, bread making is one of my favorite things to do. :)

    Here's a worthwhile tip for cramming your vehicle into a container. They use this to get tall Unicats inside after they've removed their living quarters. They replace the front tires/wheels with another set of a VERY small diameter. I'm talking just big enough you don't drag the chassis getting in. It's a journey of a few feet, so think outside the box. Maybe even wheels without tires if that fills the bill with ground clearance. Far easier to do than removing everything on your roof...

    I love how you are diving into the bread making thing! Making bread is hard in a full kitchen, you are awesome trying it in your space. My sister makes the most incredible bread and has talked to me (in breathtaking detail) about sourdough starter. I don't know how she does it; I have constant bread envy. Anyway, this was to say - don't listen to a word I say, if I had to bake a loaf of sourdough to save my life, I would be quite and fully dead. But, is the dough supposed to be that.... wet?
    And Trent, I sure hope you can _transformer_ that biatch to get it in the shipping container!!

    Just baked my first sourdough loaf. The starter took about 4 days.....and I used a basic bread machine.....perfect. I know you don't have the space for a bread machine but FYI. Also....really good success with "no kneed bread" recipes and approach. First heard about it on RUclips channel "Ruby Rose". Sailing. Internet has the info.....key piece...the water has to be hot but not too hot that it would burn if you touched. Good luck. Love your channel....

    Hey...if your only off by 6ish inches you can always drop the wheels off and maybe put it on blocks... getting it IN and OUT of the container is on you... if your off by an inch or 2 maybe drop the suspension and roll it into the storage? just a thought

    Hey guys how's it going? I hope you safe travels at Panama and beyond.the best way to need that dough is to sprinkle some flour on the counter and sprinkle some flour on top of the dough and fold it onto itself about 10 times. It won't stick to everything at that point.good luck.nice to see F.T.D..,..

      Just wet your hands or you'll be adding do much flour. A sourdough will stop being sticky if you do it in stages. Use a bowl.
