The sea of thieves team has made many announcements recognizing the hit registration issues within the game as well as explaining how they are tackling the issues to improve and eventually fix these problems altogether. I think this is more of a tool to help out while these improvements are being made, not used to cover up the problem.
@@LuckySOT here we are seven months later and hit reg is still as bad as the day the game dropped they have launched several patches over the years saying its better and when you boot up the game its still as bad as ever they can call it latency all they want Ive seen videos where they have two players with known 50 or below ping and hit reg still doesn't work its super frustrating they put so much work into the game and add lots of content its a good game but they keep ignoring this one problem literally everyone agrees needs fixed my best guess is whatever causes it is a core part of the game and fixing it would be a huge pain in the ass so as long as they keep making money I don't expect hit reg to ever get fixed
That's fair, I feel like this is like kind of the opposite of a hit reg fix but at the same time I think that it's better than nothing while they continue to work on it. I remember in an old announcement video they talked about how they hired an entire team to help improve that specific thing.
The setting doesn’t work weather you have it on or off, you still get shots that show hit markers that didn’t hit, very often, and if you have it turned off to see if your hitting longer ranges shots from boat to boat you will still get hits with no hit markers. It made the game worse lol.
This doesn't fix hit reg, it just makes it easier to tell you did reg. Just because now only know when the server confirms my hit doesn't mean I didn't just shoot someone in the face with a sniper and do no damage
The amount of times i’ve not seen a hitmarker after turning the setting on shows how laughable the hitreg system still is. It’s a good thing there’s a lot of pve content or the game would have died already.

It's the brand new reward for getting reapers 100! It does require you to have the skele curse already though!

why you have red hit markers and we have white
Red hitmarkers happen on kill, white happen on non-kill hits
it might be a setting you have to turn on but I think it's by default
