For me what killed my enjoyment of SoT was Hourglass, and the fundamental issues with it. They took the two most requested curses and locked them behind a tedious PvP slog that is impossible for anyone who isn't a PvP sweat lord. The best way to fix Hourglass is to give XP for action like killing enemy players, damaging the enemy ship, repairing, bucketing, ect. This would reward you for fighting well and keeping your ship alive, as it is right now, if you lose, you might as well not have even tried. Sure, some people would cheese this, but people will find ways to cheese anything.

@@SalesmanWave I don't intend to be obnoxious, but it is an issue I feel that gets swept under the rug. If changes aren't made to Hourglass, it'll completely die off, and knowing rare, the curses would be lost forever.
Instead of just abandoning it, I'd much rather see it improve. Instead most of the community wither ignores it or ridicules anyone who makes suggestions for improvements to it.

    Safer Seas is wonderful for one big reason;
As a gaming clan owner, we have a lot of brand new fresh off maiden voyage players. Safer seas allows one of us older folk to take 3 noobs out and slowly while playing the game learning basic mechanics.
Last training session I had them doing skeleton ships and ashen winds back and forth. They get rewarded while learning. Then when they feel comfy enough we go into high seas and they already have the experience to fight others without learning the hard way.

It makes complete sense. There are a lot of milestones you can earn with a captained ship, and by grinding them without any threat sounds like a problem. I have a fishing boat and I’m catching as many fish I can while sailing it to max out the fish trophies. If I can do this without any threat there is no challenge and it’s just a grindfest of who has more time to sink.

Safer seas is great , I always thought it was insane that you went straight from tutorial to being in the open world with a Galleon barreling straight for you before you even got your anchor up. And it'll be nice to fish or enjoy tall tales as well.
I think the game needs more naval world events. There's only 1 Naval world event and it feels very similar to Ghost fleets in terms of what you're doing , shooting cannons and repairing your ship. I think it'd be amazing if there was like a merchant convoy that shows up on the map and travels from one point to another , and players can intercept it (and eachother) , maybe people can even flag up for merchant alliance and defend the convoy. Also a new enemy ship type that only rams , or maybe uses harpoons , boards.

Season 10 was not an ''Super'' Season.. not by an long shot.
Barely any new things to do, and the one thing we got ended up not even lasting the whole season.
I don't have a lot of hopes for season 11, sure the things they talked about and showed does look like good things, but I am still on the defensive over it and not having any exaptation on it being anything more then ''fine''

Guilds feel like they weren't thought through for long term longevity and the UI could use a tune up to make them more accessible. The skull of siren song never stood a chance mostly because it was an obscene hassle for 50k. Safer seas was a decent band aid for new players getting sunk but doesn't actually solve the issue of properly teaching them mechanics. Sea of thieves could use a proper tutorial overhaul

Honestly, I think Safer Seas could have been a massive success if they had just made it a completely separate character. Where you would have two characters with everything you earn being locked to that character. That way you can still earn max reward and would settle anyone worrying about earning stuff and bringing it to High Seas. I honestly wouldn't mind starting over again. Or allowed us to put our character over and start a new one on High Seas. Sure, it would still piss off some people in it's inclusion, but if Rare were going to do it anyway, they should have just gone all the way. You just can't please everyone, so when Rare pulled this out it felt like they were trying to please both communities, and it backfired a bit. As you said, many people didn't come back because the reward nerf was too harsh. I know a over a dozen now that didn't come back because of it. And there are lots of people still miffed you can earn stuff on Safer Seas and bring it over. The solution I feel was simple but they implemented it wrong, which is just par for the course with Rare at this point.

I’m a new player that joined because of Safer Seas. I’ve had my fill of sweaty toxic PvPers in other games and I would never have touched this without something like Safer Seas. What ended up happening though was I fell in love with High Seas and will likely never go back to SS. If I have friends join me who are brand new or just really new to games though, Safer Seas is always there. I think it serves its purpose well and is a great addition to the game.
Now that I’m actually fully immersed in the game though, I wish they’d put their “Quality of Life” stuff like diving/voyages from captain’s table and even sovereigns (*I can feel the rage already) over there. Even though I’m new I can definitely see that the game has lost a lot of the immersion and original vision. I’m really sad I didn’t pick it up and play it in earlier years before they started going int his direction.

The season discussion aside, i am really confused by rares decion making. First, they remove arena and "replace" it with hourglass 1.5 years later to have it be on the same servers as regular adventure. They already saw how problematic it was when tdmers started camping people in adventure after arena was gone, but somehow they decided to keep all the pvpers in a gamemode with cosmetic rewards that every player desperately wants. Unsurprisingly, a ton of people conplain, a ton of people start cheating and then, after a year of no shit given about the mode at all, not even new cosmetics, it's nearly dead. Not to mention that every hourglass player takes up precious server space that could be inhibited by people who actually want to DO something on the server. All that keeping hg in adventure servers did was making it, so you could get 3rd partied. And then, because all the new/bad players in adventure complained about the top 5% of pvpers, rare removes quickswitching, driving all the pvpers away from the game. Essentially, adding a mode for the pvpers, fucked the pvpers.
I just kinda wish they'd bring back arena with hostable servers and changable rulesets like supplies, map size, quickswitching, island loot, ship type, number of ships, etc. to allow anyone to practice. It'd bring a sizeable influx of players (back) to the game and make it, so adventure is a little more peaceful, with all the toxic and skilled players on other, seperated servers.
My god am i fluent in yappanese and crying.

My first love was Sid Meier's Pirates! back in 1987. All the way back in the day when gaming wasn't considered even remotely cool. And as an original Legendary and Triumphant Sea Dog with over 4k hours on these seas. I can honestly say Sea of Thieves gave me some of the greatest gaming moments and memories I've had in over 35 years. Sadly, what used to truly be a gamer's game and the best I've ever been blessed enough to enjoy. Has now turned into the opposite. I understand that it's the nature of the beast when it comes to monetization and attracting casual players who want rewards without the risk. That doesn't change the fact that I mourn the loss of what this game used to be and instead have begun to loathe what it has become. That's ok though, things change, it's life. And often we have little to no control over it. But I do miss you SoT and the best part of me always will. GG

I purchased the game solely because they added safer seas. And a dozen of my friends. And i'm sure I and my friend circle isn't the only one. Sure these are not people who will shitbucket the game for 1000s of hours like many PvP fans. But they generated a lot of new revenue. And why is it still not more popular? Because of what you just said in the video. The restrictions are way too harsh. 30% of the gold earned isn't 30% if you count how much more efficient you are with the fast selling option of the sovereigns and the emissary system in addition. We easily arrive at around 15% of the possible earnings. And I don't care about the cheap excuses for that from PvP fans who were vocal as hell against anything PvE related from the beginning. PvE has no affect on the PvP field. Period. So Rare gave the PvE fans what they wanted without giving them what they wanted. But i'm still grateful for that. I enjoy it.

I know the realities of multiple player games will be rough in the future like any gamer, but at that age, they could just give up on something to never come back if there is just lose the stuff they earned on missions. No. Adding a new UI tool, one voyage that in my experience nobody engages in (loved the idea of it but the way it was done made it flop), and a pve mode that's the same game just dumbed down with no other players that I and many others will likely not use or only use rarely. Skull of Siren Song is great except that it doesn't count towards rep.
Safer Seas is great except that it doesn't allow for captained ships.
I got my 30 siren skulls because I love the ship cosmetics, but I don't see a need to do anymore. Now I just accept the voyage so I know where additional ships are on the map when they dig up an item.
I thought I would absolutely live in Safer Seas since I've been maxed out in reputation for awhile and don't need gold. But if it's not your ship and its back to being a vanilla sloop every time you load in, it's much less interesting. Every Captain Jack Sparrow needs a Black Pearl. Cap the levels, % down the milestones, whatever you gotta do, just give us captained ships in Safer Seas. Until then I'll be High Seas getting dunked on by PVPers.
So basically two great ideas that lack a critical element. Fix those, and you got a winner.

In general, i have to say that season 10 was a let down. Now, i say this as someone who only still plays pvp, either camping people in hg or tdming, but i do feel like i have my fair share of experience and knowledge regarding this game. guilds is nice and all, but mostly just some extra gui and a bit of clothing. the skull of siren song sounded really cool, i would've loved to kidnap the skull, bring it to a fort and then defend it there untill i die. the reality of the situation however, boiled down to nobody actually doing it. i've literally NEVER seen anyone do this voyage while on a server, always had to start it myself and WAIT for other people to come. and safer seas, ig it's nice for newer players. i think they nailed the "punishment" for playing on it, it just brought EVEN MORE yappers and whiners to the game and communtity though. speaking of yapping and whining, the removal of quickswitch made me yap and whine a bit, as now i have to use quickswitch cheats when i actually want fort tdm to be barable. it's obviously not an issue right now, as there is free quickswitch cheats and every somewhat competent tdmer (that didn't quit yet) has and uses it, but it's still just really annoying. also i feel like the only REAL difference it made, is that pvp is objectively worse, as you can still 2 tap people faster than they can eat and double gunning is very much still viable. i can still easily camp most of the players i face as well. the biggest difference is just in the playstyle, which feels MUCH slower, more boring and less skill based. the skill difference between players at very high levels is also WAY smaller now, which sucks as well. 90% of tdmers quit the game, leaving only a few. i myself barely touch sot anymore as well.
all in all, i don't think that season 10 brought any actually interesting content to the table for both less experienced, more pve focused players, as well as the pvp veterans. many people discredit the statement "the game is dead/dying" by saying that it's actually gaining players, though i'd argue that ever sicne season 8 servers just felt really dead. i highly doubt season 11 will change that but who knows.

Quick swap nerfs while tons of bugs and problems with guns still exist, and, even worse, sail nerfs (when some have existed for MANY years) are insulting. The sail changes were a great opportunity to add cuts/tatters to ALL sails, allowing true cosmetic variety and potentially a good gold sink.

I’m gonna start doing safe seas. I started playing this game in 2018 on Xbox and I’m getting back into it now and it is way more toxic now than what I can remember. I played on Sunday and my crew got slaughtered by a toxic brig and we lost all of our hard earned loot and it really took the fun out of it for me personally. I don’t want to PVP I just want to do my quests and get my reward. When I see a ship I usually sail away, I don’t want to PVP anyone. It’s annoying having these guys KOS you and they are such try hards. They come up to you with the blunder bust shotgun thing and one tap you going up all in your face, that doesn’t feel like a pirate game to me! I want to sword fight you and these guys just want to kill you the cheapest way possible which is running right up to you jumping around and one tapping you. Come tf on bro, I’m done with the PVP

What puzzles me is that i am still seeing clueless swabbie players in high seas - like really clueless as in cant even sail properly. The game needs to direct newbies there so they can learn the basics of sailing - as it is, they are marching into high seas, getting sunk and still putting salty posts on reddit or the forums and quitting the game. Safer seas was meant to break that barrier, but it doesnt seem to do it.

Safer seas is fine. I play super hard-core pvp on a brig in hourglass or just as a reaper terrorizing servers. That's for normal play. But when I pull my kids in to do a tall tale and have fun, it is nice to make it a story game that they can learn and have fun without being spawn camped on a Galeon.

It was average length. I guess that's what happens when they have a semi annual previously.

That's good! Seasons used to be this length in 2021.

For me, safer seas is basically non- existent as interactions with other crews is the funniest part of Sot i my opinion. Chest of fortune at fotd- just why? what a horrible change. Guilds are cool but I dont have a friend group that big so after hitting level 15 for the emissary flag I just ignored it because the skins werent that cool imo anyways. So the only cool thing for me was the skull of siren song, it was probably one of the most fun expiriences in the game for me, too bad nobody played it after a week anymore and it became a boring fetchquest with lackstuster rewards

Superseason my donglings... Menu options, some cosmetics, servers without any other player ship and a voyage made it look just like a regular season, just in parts. And the only great addition was the voyage, which after selling 30 SoSS, there is nothing interesting to get so you'll just leave it (besides 3 out of the 30 skulls maybe no one was doing it so I need it to do it slowly and without risk... basically boring but that is not Rare's fault)
So yeah, pretty dissapointing, it was just a normal Season imo
Season 11 looks awesome and my expectations for Season 12 and so on are pretty high, so is not all negative
