I have a pair of ARIAT work boots I use for construction work and I have cleaned and took care of them well but the demand for work and the job itself is hard to keep boots that last longer than 1 year but I gotta say I’ve tried a lot of boots but they all either rip the bottoms off or the leather gets worn off the front of the steal toe 😅
Point is, do you still clean your own tools and safety equipment to make sure it's going to last you for the rest of your working career? Or do you just let them rot and rust.
A Dad caring enough to do this for his older son is pretty amazing. My Dad taught me how to set up my own winter boots when i started to wear them. Mink oiled them up for us boys. He didn't have the time to do this for us, but he had enough time to get us started.

My dad ALWAYS had his boots squared away. One of the many fond memories i have of my dad was him teaching me to shine my shoes and boots the way he learned in the army. The thing about buying a good pair of boots is even if you pay to resole them etc it'll still probably be cheaper and with better quality leathers than what will be on the market in 5-10 years because companies sadly keep cutting corners on materials.
I spend the week before hunting season treating by boots for the opening day. It's a basic training in the service to care for issues boots, but when you own a nice pair, it makes it all the more special to keep them in good working order.

As a man who desires to be self-sufficient in life but without an experienced father, this sort of thing has helped me greatly. I watched your video from years ago in conditioning leather and got some of the heavy duty conditioner, cleaner, and a good horse hair brush like you recommended preciously and it has worked wonders on some of my old tired boots. Your passion for life, God, and being a good PROHO for your family has greatly inspired me. I'm only 22, but I'm a diesel mechanic and you've inspired me for years. God bless you and your family.
My dad always polished our shoes before any big event. You would just line them up beside his and he would make em look nice. Same thing with shirt, hang yours next to his and it got ironed perfectly. A simple yet incredible memory i have of my dad. It meant a lot to me. I'm sure your son will remember this.
Hey I’m a welder I pipeline and do fab in Alberta Canada. I use laces called iron laces they have a guarantee and there is no way they would burn them firefighting. I use to use leather but they dry out super fast and break. I will try and send a pic of the box

It was a joy to watch you lovingly restore your son's boots. My first thought was good grief! That's a big boy! 2nd was memories of early married days of my husb slow cooking his boots after cleaning & sealing with mink oil and the gentle smells of a slow roasted high dollar pair if boots. That was winter, Whites for timber work then overhead lineman. Them boots were nothing to joke about or mess with. My dearly departed dad went one step further in he made his own special blend of oils & cleaners and was a master craftsman leatherworker & metals of any type. He had his own forge growing up. He said if it from the earth...I can melt it. Bullets, guns, horseshoes, copper art etc. very cool man whose craft sadly passed with him. God bless him. Great video!

Just finished my second year wearing my Nicks boots and always look forward to this process to keep my boots in top shape. And of course I learned about them from Mr. Wranglerstar and appreciate being able to rock the classic west coast heel on the jobsite.
I had a chief on my first ship in the Navy who taught me how to care for my boots (I worked in the engine rooms, boots were necessary) and I continued to use that skill when I worked for the phone company. Like the chief who taught me, I passed on those skills to anyone I worked with that asked. Care for and protect your gear, so that when it is needed, that gear can care for and protect you. Cody, absolutely right about paracord laces. They are perfectly serviceable in a non-hazardous environment, but will melt in a heartbeat when exposed to high temperatures. Good call on the leather!

For an old guy, my Wolverines are an all around nice '"logger style" boot. I was a flatbed driver in the PNW . The under slung heel was incredibly comfortable comfortable. Vibram always!! My prayers are with you. Especially Jack!

Here I am, living in a small town, but not in the country. I'm not a firefighter, and I don't have a homestead to protect; I'm building a house in a cut de sac. However, after watching this video I found myself on the JK Boots website because- "if I'm going to buy fire boots, they need to be the best" lol. Talk about the rabbit hole of gear I don't need, but find myself shopping for haha!
Excellent video. Made me remember I needed to clean and treat my boots. I've been wearing the USA made Redwings for years now. Unfortunately I found they are not making the logger or lineman style in soft toe any longer. So I had my local Redwing store find me a second pair and now have two pairs. One stays in the box till I need the other resoled. Then while one is being resoled I wear the other pair for the two or so years till they need resoled then switch again. Obenauf's is all I'll ever use on my boots. I plan on retiring in a few years and these two pairs of boots will last me the rest of my life.
Sounds like you have a solid system in place with your Redwings. It's a shame they're not making the logger or lineman style in soft toe anymore, but smart move getting a second pair. As a man who desires to be self-sufficient in life but without an experienced father, this sort of thing has helped me greatly. I watched your video from years ago in conditioning leather and got some of the heavy duty conditioner, cleaner, and a good horse hair brush like you recommended preciously and it has worked wonders on some of my old tired boots. Your passion for life, God, and being a good PROHO for your family has greatly inspired me. I'm only 22, but I'm a diesel mechanic and you've inspired me for years. God bless you and your family.
My dad always polished our shoes before any big event. You would just line them up beside his and he would make em look nice. Same thing with shirt, hang yours next to his and it got ironed perfectly. A simple yet incredible memory i have of my dad. It meant a lot to me.

Hey I’m a welder I pipeline and do fab in Alberta Canada. I use laces called iron laces they have a guarantee and there is no way they would burn them firefighting. I use to use leather but they dry out super fast and break. I will try and send a pic of the box

It was a joy to watch you lovingly restore your son's boots. My first thought was good grief! That's a big boy! 2nd was memories of early married days of my husb slow cooking his boots after cleaning & sealing with mink oil and the gentle smells of a slow roasted high dollar pair if boots. That was winter, Whites for timber work then overhead lineman. Them boots were nothing to joke about or mess with. My dearly departed dad went one step further in he made his own special blend of oils & cleaners and was a master craftsman leatherworker & metals of any type. He had his own forge growing up. He said if it from the earth...I can melt it. Bullets, guns, horseshoes, copper art etc. very cool man whose craft sadly passed with him. God bless him. Great video!
One day when you’re gone Jack can look back and see his dad living life. He’ll be able to view videos like this of his dad working hard and showing him love. It makes me miss my late dad.

Just finished my second year wearing my Nicks boots and always look forward to this process to keep my boots in top shape. And of course I learned about them from Mr. Wranglerstar and appreciate being able to rock the classic west coast heel on the jobsite.

I had a chief on my first ship in the Navy who taught me how to care for my boots (I worked in the engine rooms, boots were necessary) and I continued to use that skill when I worked for the phone company. Like the chief who taught me, I passed on those skills to anyone I worked with that asked. Care for and protect your gear, so that when it is needed, that gear can care for and protect you.

Cody, absolutely right about paracord laces. They are perfectly serviceable in a non-hazardous environment, but will melt in a heartbeat when exposed to high temperatures. Good call on the leather!

For an old guy, my Wolverines are an all around nice '"logger style" boot. I was a flatbed driver in the PNW . The under slung heel was incredibly comfortable comfortable. Vibram always!! My prayers are with you. Especially Jack!

Here I am, living in a small town, but not in the country. I'm not a firefighter, and I don't have a homestead to protect; I'm building a house in a cut de sac. However, after watching this video I found myself on the JK Boots website because- "if I'm going to buy fire boots, they need to be the best" lol. Talk about the rabbit hole of gear I don't need, but find myself shopping for haha!

Excellent video. Made me remember I needed to clean and treat my boots. I've been wearing the USA made Redwings for years now. Unfortunately I found they are not making the logger or lineman style in soft toe any longer. So I had my local Redwing store find me a second pair and now have two pairs. One stays in the box till I need the other resoled. Then while one is being resoled I wear the other pair for the two or so years till they need resoled then switch again. Obenauf's is all I'll ever use on my boots. I plan on retiring in a few years and these two pairs of boots will last me the rest of my life.
