The Dimachaeron looks like the BIGGEST tipping hazard GW ever made... All the worst aspects of the hormagaunt models combined with the bulk of a Carnifex.

We clearly have very different ideas on what makes a good/bad model 😅 The Dimachaeron is one of my favourite models as it's so reminiscent of the Xenomorph from Aliens. I think it being very spindly works given it's a fast attack model, I couldn't imagine the chunky nids sprinting across the battle field As far as the Primarchs go, I'm not a fan of Dorn, he just looks so dull not being in a pose. I favour Vulcan and The Lion
I've found recasters do better moulds of FW stuff (shhhhh) , less trimming and work involved to build it, believe it or not. Nearly $800 for a complete supremacy armor or $150 for the same thing but better qaulity with less work needed.
In regards to the Mastadon, I think a lot of people miss the point of the design of a lot of space marine vehicles, especially horus heresy ones, in that they're intentionally not designed to go in any direction other than forward, they're meant to just charge into the frontline and weather the storm, rather than relying on efficient turning. Also tracked vehicles tend to look like they can't turn despite they can quite easily and sometimes even better than wheeled vehicles. As for my top picks, XV9 battlesuits are the best out of the Tau range in my opinion, plus the fusion cascades give me hope for the rest of my fusion blaster heavy farsight enclaves army. However if I had to pick something out that I love the most it would probably be the solar auxilia lasrifle section, they're such awesome models and it's a shame that they're locked away as an almost too expensive army to field in a side game with very few players.
I think you’re bang on about vehicle turning. Sometimes we try to think of tracked vehicles moving like wheeled vehicles, when in reality many tracked vehicles can turn on the spot by having tracks on one side move forward while the others move backwards. I find it highly unlikely that the mastadon wouldn’t have neutral steering.
what kinda rubs me the wrong way is the selectivness of what is plausable in reality and what´s not. Yes, the turret weapons would irl snap off.. probably, they might be from some futuristic alloy, but alright. But then I remember that just humble rhino is powered by nuclear reactor and Space Marines have 2 hearths and multiple organs.. would it work? no... is it alright? yes, because sci-fi and saying that a turret is wrong because it´s not structuraly sound (from our, today´s perspective), while just the Space Marines are not plausible themselves... I don´t know. I would either accept it as a whole or critique everything from the same baseline. Love the vid, love the list, but not the logic behind it.
the tyranid dimachareon is like my all time favourite tyranid model, and that is coming from someone who has the entire FW and GW tyranid range almost.
FW models have always been more niche than GW ones, so it actually makes sense. The average hobbyist isn't buying a Warlord Titan, nor are they buying a Thunderhawk, units you can only really bring out in Apocalypse, which can be tough to organize because now you need more board space, people with thousands of points of models and a whole day to kill. This ties back to resin v plastic. Plastic seems to be the gold standard, it's lightweight, it sticks together pretty well and it's reasonably resistant to bending, however it's far more expensive to mass produce. The molds are more expensive and require far more maintenance than for resin or pewter. In other words, if GW makes a plastic kit they have to commit to said kit more than if they made a pewter or resin kit, in order to get a return. Resin is better for the more niche models which fewer people will buy. They can be extremely detailed and they don't need to sell a ton to get a return. That said, the gap between GW and FW has been narrowing. FW has made more conventional army lists rather than just normal supplement models and upgrade kits. and GW has been making bigger models that FW used to.
Because GW still has a tendency to cheapen the Resin-to-Plastic translation kits, see the plastic Contemptor Dreadnought. I will say the new plastic Kriegers are a good step in the right direction, albeit their proportions are a little hammier, but that's okay. But the Great Unclean One is defo more of a roundboi than the FW one, Keeper of Secrets lacks the triple titty nightmare show (for the best), etc. Idk if its just because the painting team at FW paints their models using more conventional scale modeling techniques rather than the uber-branded citadel ones, but a lot of the daemons- particularly nurgle ones- have a lot of intricate details that are caught much better by the resin at least or perhaps the paint that I feel as though the plastic kits fail to live up to (Mamon Transfigured/Nurgle Daemon Prince for example).
Fun fact: the ability of tracked vehicles to turn is all about ratios. The maximum length to width ratio is 5:3 for the tank to be able to turn. So long as the Mastodon's tracks keep these ratios, it can turn just fine, no matter how big and cumbersome it seems to be.
Truthfully, I kinda like the mastodon. I like big, clunky APCs with a bunch of guns poking out everywhere. It looks like it's meant to be a big battering ram that drops troops out when it breaks through the wall.
Your top two picks are some of my bottom picks (respectfully). Dorn is just standing there, looking unaware of the fact he's on a battlefield. Yeah they're super human, I would expect him to make that pose sitting on the war council, not after slaying Night Lords. The knights are also too skinny. I don't know how you can think the tanks look flimsy in the gun department when the knights look like a light breeze would knock them over. I will still watch your vids.
Having seen the mourngul in person I can say for a fact that it is one of the best FW sculpts in terms of small parts and how well it comes together. The khorne demon prince on the other hand
Lol your opening statements about a centrpiece to your army for folks to goggle at is exactly what i was going for with my ebay rescue baneblade conversion. Got it for a steal as the previous owner had half converted it and lost motivation. I did get a macharius vanquisher from forgeworld (which along with the baneblade are my favorite 40k tanks and they are buddies in their own little squadron.
Don't really have a top and bottom five. But if I have to pick most likely to buy it would be the astreus. Thing just looks so sick. Least likely would be the titans. Would not be able to recover from them financialy.
This video triggered me so hard, I love all of the "worst" models. Why would a sicaran driver need to see the right or left of his veichle? there are literally lenses on the sponsons and the turret? and the critique of the guns is just stupid, why would they break of? sure there are small connections but since when have mounted weapons not been on small connections in 40k? but everyones entitled to their own opinion, even if its a dumb opinion.
I have a noob question as I'm somewhat new to the hobby (so go easy on me haha) but do you use these FW minis with your Warhammer minis or are they a separate game?
Forgeworld make models for most of GWs games, 40k, blood bowl etc but they also have their own game, 30k, set in the horus heresy. They release books containing rules in using their 40k models in 40k games. If you're new it's easier to stick to GW for the time being. With all the books you'll need to field FW models in your 40k army.. Its a bit nuts
My top forgeworld I would love to have, but never justify paying the price for are: A warlord Titan, Thunderhawk Gunship, and Sanguinius, he would be really fun to paint, too bad his base is not the large epic base he came with originally.
The only primarch they got right with a charging pose is angron. Do you really see that guy having a chill pose. Na that’s guys going in like the demented psycho he is
The Dimacheron is wrong because it has no building to lean on. If you add some conversion bits and building terrain onto the base, it will look more realistic and normal.
I agree with the weird treads on the Sicarian tank, they should be the other way around if you look at the inspiration, the British WW1 Mark tanks. The view port reminds me of the Churchill tank, which was even worse.
My only issue with the Cerastus knights is that their legs are weirdly, un detailed or just too skinny. I love the castigator, but the legs keep me from pulling the trigger. I REALLY want to model one cutting a rhino in half or something like that.
I've actually been buying a couple models from them lately . one of my favorite of all time models is the Night Lord praetor with jump pack, I love that guy and modded 2 of them so they are 40k legal, I also got the Night Lords Leviathan which is beyond cool! I also have the Trog hag and the Belladonna model coming in the mail soon, can't wait!
This idea that plastic is on par with resin casting annoys me. Plastics have improved immensely, but as long as they are metal injections molds, they *cannot* have superior detail to resin, due to the way undercuts work. Additionally, resin kits will have fantastically detailed parts cast whole. You don't have to glue 2 to 5 pieces together to get the solid part, and then deal with seams (which GW is horrible at properly hiding 90% of the time). The plastic kits are great, but soft mold resin casts can't *really* be entirely replaced for fine/intricate detail across curved features.
I've probably had the chaos dwarf line in my cart for a decade. Finally decided to pull the trigger after the holidays and they're going OOP. FW you cruel mistress.
I quite like the Mastodon, its built like a brick but a heavy transport should be. The only major change i would want is the front treads being protected
What really threw me off was the complaint about spindly little weapon mounts, while, without trying to be offensive, I believe that Cerastus Knights are the definition of spindly and disproportionate (at least in 40k).
I really like the Flyers of Forgeworld. They look really cool but are not all that competitive usually. And so expensive you got to sell your army to get it for your army.
Top five favorite Forgeworld models 1) Great unclean one -Nice big model, ugly, dirty, detailed, grandfather is proud 2) Armageddon Pattern Basilisk - Big gun with protection 3) Macharius Vulcan- I’m an ex A-10 mechanic, anything with a gatling cannon is good: bbbbrrrrttttt 3) Fire Raptor Gunship - see three, plus it looks cool 4) Storm Eagle - see three again plus looks cool My top 5 models that suck from Forgeworld models 1) Legion Kharybdis assault claw: just don’t like the way it looks 2) Keeper of secrets: give me the creeps 3) Khorne Blood Slaughter 4) Khorne Blood Slaughter Impaler' 5) Serptek Heavy Construct: I play Necrons and I’m not feeling this big focus fire target I like the Sicaran tanks for some reason, I don't have any problems with your choices, only thing is i am purposely saving for the Fire raptor gunship and Storm Eagle don't know if I will get to use them in a game and that's OK. Just for display and a project would be awesome.
My personal favourite model is the Legion Praetor, with the Cerastus Knights (and generally the entire imperial Knight line) coming in second, and probably some of the larger eldar wraith constructs after that.
I really think they need to re-imagine King Arthur but with 40K knights. I'd be surprised if there isn't already fan fic. out there too this affect, it seems so obvious. Arthur growing up on a rural agri-world, only to be randomly selected by Merlin, a member of the Mechanicum, and he then rises up to form his own House. Pledging their order to searching the galaxy to find the ancient artifact from old night, known only as the Holy Grail of Terra.
but there are 4 cerastus knights..... but other than the FW custode options, i have been in love with the warhound titan since day one and also the thunderhawk. iconic as heck.
My biggest problem with the sicarian is where they decided to put the gate for the resin flow on the hull. right on the flat surface on the backpannel you have a hughe chunk of resin to cut off. yeah these are advanced builders models, but when i pay and eye and a leg for a model i kinda expect to not have to saw of a large chunk of resin on one of the most visible parts of the model....twice... but those FW knight....damn they are so sexy. the lancer is the reason i started a Knight Army. FW kinda lost their magic. back then they were specialised to build large models that coudnt be made with plastic and the sight of one of their models was awesome. now they make a bunch of WAY overpriced minitures for their special games (75€ for an Aeronautica Model? WTF?!?), make awesome miniatures for their dead (?) heresy game that could also be made in plastic and suffer from quality issues. imo GW should try to move a large potion of the FW range to plastic and focus them again on larger than life models (and put reasonable prices on them...)
cant do my dimachaeron wrong like this, its the most fun model iver ever made and painted, the mastodon is also tracked so it can very easily turn since it just needs specific tracks to run and not actually turn wheels
Can’t believe that Sanguinius didn’t make your list of garbage sculpts. As a Blood Angels player since the late ‘80s I was incredibly disappointed when I got the kit. Tried to think of ways to salvage him but just couldn’t come up with anything that made me happy. Ending up selling it off.
I love the Grunt tanks, the Custodes dreadsnoughts and pretty much all the IK they made (and I think some should make it to the regular plastic range). Also all the Mechanicum stuff for Horus Heresy. It's a damn shame we can't play these figs in 40k because. I find all theur robots far superior to the 40k robots.
I love how Games Workshop has the unmitigated gall to use the word "Only" in front of the number 649.99

How can you hate the mastodon. It’s one of my favourite models
"Here are Forgeworld's worst models" *Proceeds to list all of their best models*
I'm legitimately scared of what you'd consider "good"
He put a reverse card on his list.
I dont think the scaling is correct on any of the vehicles. The rhino for eg would at a squeeze fit tau but not space marines.
I love my Great Knarlocs from FW, wish they hadn't discontinued them.
Ow, I actually love the forgeworld Tyranid :( It's a weird one for sure but the detail is insane and you can do so much with it
I think the mastadon looks awesome. Aim to turn one into an ork super trukk
I've probably had the chaos dwarf line in my cart for a decade. Finally decided to pull the trigger after the holidays and they're going OOP. FW you cruel mistress.
How are the custodes dread brothers not on here?
I quite like the Mastodon, its built like a brick but a heavy transport should be. The only major change i would want is the front treads being protected
What really threw me off was the complaint about spindly little weapon mounts, while, without trying to be offensive, I believe that Cerastus Knights are the definition of spindly and disproportionate (at least in 40k).
Yes
I could not figure out why I like the Mastodon. You solved it. Because it looks like a bunny!
I respect your opinions and agree with the best models but the dishonorable mentions holy shit those are bad takes
I really like the Flyers of Forgeworld. They look really cool but are not all that competitive usually. And so expensive you got to sell your army to get it for your army.
FW’s original Osiron Dreadnaught for the Thousand Sons is absolutely gorgeous as well
I'm new to the hobby but I hope to one day pick up one of those Word Bearers Possessed Space Marine Dreadnaught Hybrid things. (Forgot the name)
A fun little anomaly is that some of the older FW 40k and Fantasy character models are now cheaper than their mundane equivalents in GW plastic.
Mate, I love your videos, but what’s with the Sicaran hate??? It’s the best new space marine tank to come out in ages!
Sicarans are ugly as sin
@@waslos2588 Mate, no way
The fact their used to be a metap thunderhawk blows my mind with its size
Top five favorite Forgeworld models
1) Great unclean one -Nice big model, ugly, dirty, detailed, grandfather is proud
2) Armageddon Pattern Basilisk - Big gun with protection
3) Macharius Vulcan- I’m an ex A-10 mechanic, anything with a gatling cannon is good: bbbbrrrrttttt
3) Fire Raptor Gunship - see three, plus it looks cool
4) Storm Eagle - see three again plus looks cool
My top 5 models that suck from Forgeworld models
1) Legion Kharybdis assault claw: just don’t like the way it looks
2) Keeper of secrets: give me the creeps
3) Khorne Blood Slaughter
4) Khorne Blood Slaughter Impaler'
5) Serptek Heavy Construct: I play Necrons and I’m not feeling this big focus fire target
I like the Sicaran tanks for some reason, I don't have any problems with your choices, only thing is i am purposely saving for the Fire raptor gunship and Storm Eagle don't know if I will get to use them in a game and that's OK. Just for display and a project would be awesome.
My personal favourite model is the Legion Praetor, with the Cerastus Knights (and generally the entire imperial Knight line) coming in second, and probably some of the larger eldar wraith constructs after that.
Just got Grendl Grendlsen Squat Bounty Hunter. Such a cool model. bring back SQUATS!
i love the mastadon :o
i.. uhm.. that's on my to-get list now bc of you xD
I love my dorn sculpt so much, when I first got him I gave him some FATT mutton chops with some green stuff.
cant do my dimachaeron wrong like this, its the most fun model iver ever made and painted, the mastodon is also tracked so it can very easily turn since it just needs specific tracks to run and not actually turn wheels
When you were talking about Dorn and how the primarchs shouldn't be midswing I agree except for Angron
