Generation upon generation wanted to see if the accounts of Cuthbert's body never decomposing were true. Could it be possible? This is the story of mysteries, miracles, mummification, and what happened to the body of St. Cuthbert. St. Cuthbert's body lies at Durham Cathedral.

That damn henry viii just ruined so many things! He just couldnt leave things be.
That stain glass shining on the pillars was so pretty.
Another awesome video. Thank you!
"just ruined so many things" quite the understatement.... its like saying Hitler did some naughty things. Henry VIII was the most vile psycho tyrannical genocidal maniak that ever walked the the British isles.
I get you! I’m still pissed at what the Revolutionary morons did in France. Dammit, I’m an atheist but it doesn’t mean you have to destroy history to prove a point!
@@melindalopez3978 thank you friend! I was EXCITED when I saw the reflection of the glass on the pillar. Lucky to be able to capture that. 💚
Beautiful video Evelyn. I think it’s a miracle that we still know where Cuthbert was buried. Especially after everything his body went through. We can’t say the same for every King or Queen in the UK after the dissolution of the monasteries. Those that were buried in France didn’t fair much better either.
@@Kenzalina_ it’s true! Had Henry VIII’s men not been freaked out when they were going to destroy the shrine we probably wouldn’t! 💚💚💚
Fascinating story. Great Job.

@@Ripcurl552002 thank you so much Layne!
Thanks Evelyn. Was it the wax on the shroud that preserved his body? They wouldn't leave him alone until they destroyed him
@@sixeses to some extent. Also how air tight the original burial was.
Fascinating & incredible!

The reason is that saint's bodies do not suffer "corruption" (i.e., decay). There are saints on display in the world whose bodies look like they just died, regardless of how much time has passed since their death.
Why do we open so many tombs! Leave them alone!
your talk on st cuthbert was totally engrossing evelyn thank you and please keep up your fascinating work .
