I wanna say this was the first episode. And for as much as I genuinely love this song, there's a reason the show didn't last. This video is weird as hell. In other news, I'd have paid good money to have been allowed to be in the background somewhere, just totally going ham on some tubular bells when appropriate in the song. I learned recently that Steve Harwell has retired after his last performance with Smash Mouth. Honestly, I'm kind of surprised that I found this out in the news by accident considering that we never hear about anything from Smash Mouth anymore (let alone any of their new songs).
They still drew crowds at live performances and made a living that way. They are a fond childhood memory for many adults. Founding member and singer Steve Harwell, whom you mentioned, passed today (Sep 4th, 2023, Labor Day) from complications due to alcoholism. The reason he retired 2 years ago was to seek treatment after a particularly embarrassing appearance on stage while intoxicated. It was too late and the treatment only managed to prolong his life for a couple more years. Too much permanent damage was already done.
