I asked him that watching rip on that board one day on Oahu. He said he is just more comfortable riding it that way strapped in? Amazing huh! Maybe from the windsurf/kiteboarding stuff he does you tend to feel better in the straps in one direction.
Its a whole new sport. What do they call tow-in wave surfing with a jet ski? You dont need throttle to ride the wave. You cant surf in flat conditions either. With a motor you can.
