  • 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander GT | MSRP: $30,995 | Price as tested: 35,195
    Engine: 3.0L; 224 h.p.; 215 lb.-ft. | MPG: 20 city / 27 hwy

Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, etc.
    -----------------------
Mitsubishi is an interesting company. They had one of their best years yet in 2015 in the U.S., yet they still sold less than 100,000 vehicles. That might sound impressive until you realize that 17.5 million new vehicles were sold last year nationwide. You might ask yourself, how can a company like this stay in business? Mitsubishi’s parent company makes everything from helicopters and cargo ships to televisions and computer chips. The vehicle sales seem more a matter of pride for the company than its focus. Despite all of this, with the 2016 Outlander GT, they’ve created something to be fairly proud of.
I say fairly proud because this car is basically unremarkable. Its looks are unique, but not in any classic or timeless way. Its 3.0-Liter 6-Cylinder engine is powerful and efficient, while also sounding quite interesting - but it’s nothing too special. The interior is pleasant and even handsome in some areas, but overall a bit ordinary. What makes this car good is that it really doesn’t have any weak points. The questionable placement of a few of the controls, some shoddy materials....

Just helped my daughter lease her first car. I researched and drove the CX3 (small, cramped, underwhelming), Ford Escape (way over priced), Nissan Rogue (ugly, expensive) and then test drove the 2017 Outlander Sport. It is by FAR the best looking of the trucks tested. It also offers by FAR the most value for the money. They had a black one with black wheels and it looked more like a $35,000 truck.True 4wd, Android Car Play, heated seats, tilt/telescoping wheel and I'm 6'3" and can actually fit in the back seat!. I drove it with her for 3 days and not only does she love it, I loved it too. Especially for $240 a month with 15k mile allowance. The Mazda dealer said, "I don't know why Mitsubishi makes cars anymore." and now I know why he said that... because he's jealous. We love the Outlander sport. AND I PREFER that she has to put it into 4wd.

I owned a 2003 Outlander which I loved for more than 200K trouble-free miles. I was sold on their dependability, so I traded it last year for the 2015 Outlander Sport 2.0. I would have loved to get this bigger one, as it was more comparable in size to the 2003, but it was beyond the reach of our budget. With that said, I'm very happy with my choice. I feel Mitsubishi is underrated by most reviewers, almost to the point where it seems they go out of their way to bash them, as if they had an agenda.

I just picked up a 2016 Outlander Sport and its probably the best car I've ever owned. I had a 08 Subaru Forester and a 13 Scion xB but the Outlander sport has turned me into a loyal Mitsu owner for now on.

It is a great brand with super reliable vehicles.
It gets dinged by many in the automotive press for lack of refinement or features.
But many of the competitors for the Outlander and Outlander Sport cost more and are
      less reliable.
All the features in the world do you no good in a vehicle that is broken down on the side of the road.
I will pick a reliable Mitsubishi every time.

we have 2016 4cyl basic model he has plenty of power. I can tell it's well-built. The interior maybe isn't as nice as my Toyota but gas mileage wise this thing blows away the Sienna van I used to have and gas mileage. I'm taken it on 12 hour trips... each way withkids in the back in they were not whining

Here's what I don't get: From what I understand, Mitsubishi reworked the CVT transmission on the 4 cylinder models to act like a "normal" transmission, but it didn't really work. What I want to know is, why didn't they just drop the six speed transmission from the 6 cylinder models into the entire lineup?

I'd rather lose a few MPG's to have a decent transmission.

That has been my dilema for years... I personally think that 2 important requirements for me when I decide to go for a compact SUV will be: NO CVT and NO Electric Parking Brake. NO CVT, because I dont like them at all, not even if they mimic shifts, and no Electric Parking Brake, because that mechanical lever is not just a parking brake, but an emergency brake in case of losing the hydraulic system, I dont think a little switch will be able to work the same way... So far, my options are reducing to Rav4 and the Outlander.

CVT is not that bad. At least the Mitsu version is dependable like Toyota's.

I like that is has a V6 and a 6 Speed Automatic, the 2.4 is underpowered and the CVT is horrible.
