Great picture of Penny with Stu Hart in 1955. There's a picture of them meeting again 46 years later with Stu in a wheelchair at CAC in Las Vegas. EVERYONE had their picture taken with Stu that year.

Penny Banner was truly a wrestling icon. I had a crush on her since childhood! Living in New York I never did see her wrestle but I was attracted to her from wrestling mags lol. Years later I had the pleasure of meeting her and she was such a lovely person besides being a beautiful woman even then in her later years. Penny Banner you are missed!

RIP Penny Banner, Kay Noble, Nick Bockwinkel and Marie Laverne. Also, it bears mentioning that the AWA they speak of in this video is not the Verne Gagne AWA (American Wrestling Association), but rather the Al Haft Ohio area AWA (American Wrestling Alliance).

My first brush with a celebrity was with Penny Banner in the early 60's. I was in the grocery store with my mother and said mom that's Penny Banner. I was probably 6 or 7 and we lived very close to Verne Gagne then so it's my guess that Penny was probably visiting him. She was very nice and friendly too and of course after this she became my favorite lady wrestler. Thanks for the video !

Keep it in the family productions .Channel Glad you liked it. I have one other story about when I first met Verne Gagne 3 or 4 years later. One Saturday morning I was eating my cereal in the kitchen and there was a knock on the door. When I answered it there stood Verne Gagne ! He wanted to see my dad and I let him in and to my surprise he even knew my name. Then he challenged me to an arm wrestling contest and he let me win haha. Turned out that my dad and Verne worked on some charities and that is probably why Verne came over. This happened nearly 50 years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday !
      Cheers

Penny was one of the relatively few women in wrestling who had no connection to Moolah and were still able to prosper. There weren't that many of them who could make that claim. Back in the day Verne Gagne, Stu Hart, Dick the Bruiser, Emile Dupree and the Rougeaus were among the few promoters in North America who didn't have working agreements with Moolah.

The Narrator needs to look up his education about the beginning of women's wrestling....
He got one thing right...Yes Menova was the first women's champion then you had Cora Livingston, then Clara Mortensen, then Midred Burke...then June Byer.
    Menova
    Cora Livingston
    Clara Mortensen
    Mildred Burke
    June Byer
    Fabulous Moolah
Penny Banner broke barriers for women in women's wrestling and became the first ever AWA women's champion and was an extraordinary wrestler.
The paved the way for all the womens wrestlers today.

@@ziaakbar2535 I forgot to mention Mae young...but the most legit dominating women during Mae young's time was the unbeatable Mildred Burke...who the Amanda Nunez of that Era..she was there biggest boxoffice female wrestler draw at the time...and Mea was one of the tough girls...but Mildred was still legit much more tougher, stronger, better wrestler, amateur wrestler, and just scary badass female wrestler of her time.
But yes Mea was one of the tough Girl's of the time...I'm placing the very first women who became Champions for a long period of time and top Stars of there eras.
