Drumless track.
My second favourite Muse song. It takes inspiration from the Koyaanisqatsi OST by Philip Glass, and Mars by Holst, and they were trying to do a cinematic thing with the music about a nuclear war. You can hear this play out throughout the song:
2.13 : Emergency siren
2.27 : An atomic bomb drops
2.35 : Bomb impact and detonation
2.36 : A war breaks out with machine gun fire (snare rolls)
3.18, 3:29, 3:40 : Explosions (tom fills)
4.10 : Nuclear fire consumes the planet
4.18 : The electrical grid goes down.
