  • Alistair and Jonny Brownlee are the most loyal of friends and yet the toughest of rivals. They have the capability of bringing the best - and at times the worst - out of each other.
    In Rio 2016, Alistair will be aiming to become the first triathlete to successfully defend their Olympic title, while younger brother Jonny's target is to improve on the bronze medal he earned at London 2012.
    In the build-up to the Games, Tom Fordyce speaks to the brothers as he looks into what it is about their relationship that makes them so unique and their achievements so extraordinary.

    I was doing a 10 mile time trial at Hull some years ago and I was coming out of the turn at a speed of about 27mph when I heard the rumble of a Campagnolo disk rear wheel. One of the Brownlees passed me as if I was stood still!! Very hard working men who have worked very hard for all the success they have won!!

    I wish Jonny Brownlee had been my brother. What a truly wonderful human being. I recorded his gold medal win in the mixed triathlon and have watched it multiple times since because if any man deserved an Olympic Gold medal it was Jonny. So proud as a fellow Yorkshireman that we have seen two such complete athletes who acknowledge how much their journey owes to the landscape they have grown in. It really is so inspiring. We are so proud of you both.

    Gomez is injured which is really unfortunate however I still believe his still probably the best ever. Gomez will move to 70.3 and dominate. Then he will take on Frodeno to really be the best ever. Winning across the board. Gomez however will probably be the best ever to never win Gold at the Olympics. Olympic distance isn't all there is in Triathlon. Ask someone Like Jan Frodeno who has one the Olympics, 70.3 worlds, Ironman Worlds and fastest man ever

    • @rachelsmith3857
      @rachelsmith3857 7 лет назад +9

      Jan Frodeno has said that Alistair Brownlee is the greatest Olympic distance triathlete ever.

    • @Ivarson3
      @Ivarson3 7 лет назад +1

      All of you english are so subjective. Definetly for you AB is the best ever of all time just because he won an Olympic second gold medal in which Gomez Noya didn't compete. GN has 5 WC, 1 70.3 WC, 1 Xterra WC, and one silver olympic medal. This last is the only championship that AB is ahead of GN (and head to head he is only 1-0 in Olympics vs. 5-2 in WC). You just argue now that AB is the best just because Frodeno says so? Let's ask the whole professional triathletes who they think is best (and not consider that Brownlee's ALWAYS compete in a team, where triathlon is a INDIVIDUAL sport, which should be punished if ITU was unpartiall). Definetly, GN has a much more extended and complete track record. But you english are always SO ARROGANT.
      PS: all of you english see the thing that happened in Cozumel as an heroic act, where it was really one of the most dishonest things I have ever seen in an Individual sports event. Someone letting himself lose so his brother could win. SHAME!

    • @jonathanrendall1991
      @jonathanrendall1991 7 лет назад +5

      Alistair Brownlee's head to head record with Javier Gomez is 21 - 7 in favour of Alistair.
      Also, to quote Gomez (you can see this on the Specialized Bicycles youtube video on him) "I won 5 ITU World Championships, Xterra, 70.3, an Olympic Silver medal that I'm very proud of BUT I'm training for the Gold - which is the biggest achievement an athlete can have".
      Alistair has 2 Olympic Golds, in addition to a massively superior head to head record against Gomez.
      So put that in your pipe and smoke it.

    • @rebecaalonso492
      @rebecaalonso492 7 лет назад

      With that head to head record, and given that AB has less less World Championship than GN, the only read I can do is that GN is consistent across the whole season, he trains to win championships. While, AB, trains to win races, probably the ones more suitable for him.

    • @jonathanrendall1991
      @jonathanrendall1991 7 лет назад +1

      Alistair has had a lot more injuries that Gomez. For Alistair winning the Olympics is way more important than winning the World Championships. Gomez is a great athlete and he and the Brownlees have had a great rivalry. The next season will be interesting as I think Jonny Brownlee is going for the World Championship and Gomez will try for it again. Mola and Murray will also be there.

  • @juanbarre
    @juanbarre 8 лет назад +14

    The best triathlets in the history???? Wow... Maybe of UK. What about Gómez Noya? The Brownlees are 3 times WC together, Gómez Noya 5 times WC in olimpic distance alone. Yes one of them won Noya in the olimpics... But this is one day. Gómez Noya won last year the Wold championship in olimpic distance and 15 days later became WC of half distance... This year he is doing the same as the Brownlees in 2012 and he is only preparing the olimpics to complete his trophy record and later in a couple of years ... Hawai.

      It will all depend on who wins this years Olympics, if AB wins two in a row he will go down as the best of all time. If Gomez wins then he could go down as the greatest of all time, the Olympics is massive for these guys.

    I really like them, and I honestly think that they are amazing, but I totally disagree when it's said that "they are the best triathletes in the history of the sport". Javier Gomez Noya has consistently won them both and he has more world championship on his own than both brothers together!

    • @jonathanrendall1991
      @jonathanrendall1991 7 лет назад +9

      Alistair Brownlee has a vastly superior head to head record with Gomez. It's 21 - 7 in favour of Alistair. Alistair also has 2 Olympic Gold Medals which is the biggest achievement in Olympic distance triathlon.
      Gomez is a great athlete too.

    • @DAKOTS11
      @DAKOTS11 7 лет назад

      where is that 21 - 7 record? just go to the ITU pages and check all 'elite' alistar races and count how many times Noya finished in front.
      Both are incredible. Alistar seems better in a day race while Javier is more consistent (he is always top 4 in 95% or races). Despite Alistar lost the world title in London '13 when he was 1st before that race that Javier won sprinting against Jonny.
      For me is impossible to select one. Lets see if they both start running in a couple of years long distance. Alistar has already left by now the ITU distance.
      Frodeno wasn't the best in Olympic distance and seems almost unbeatable in IM. Can't wait to see these 2 in a 70.3 soon or Alistar vs Frodeno in Kona if he goes for it (first needs to qualify which isn't easy starting without points) Thanks to both Alistar and Javier for all the great moments and for more to come!!

    • @jonathanrendall1991
      @jonathanrendall1991 7 лет назад +1

      Their ITU record is 21-7 in favour of Alistair. Go to the ITU website and look up the results if you want to see for yourself.
      Alistair lost the world title in 13 because of his achilles - if you look at the results you'll see he finished around 40th in that last race in London (at one point he even stopped running to shout at Jonny). That's one of the times Javier beat him.
      Javier Gomez has said the greatest achievement in triathlon is the Olympic Gold - and Alistair has two.
      I think both Javier and Alistair will dismantle Frodeno at long distance.
