I think all you need to know about the biased perceptions is the difference in coverage between McDavid's goal and Robo's entire night. McDavid got a piece of a bouncing puck that the NHL ultimately ruled an own goal and he's being hailed for his scoring prowess. Robo almost singlehandedly wills his team to a win with a hat trick and it's all because of Skinner's failures apparently. If McDavid had scored an identical goal to Robo's 3rd, he'd get so much praise for his creativity and knack for finding holes. Instead Robo is just "lucky to have found a soft goalie". At what point do people acknowledge that maybe Dallas just has a good hockey team?

    • @Hexadecimal_QueenofChaos
      @Hexadecimal_QueenofChaos 3 месяца назад +3

Absolutely. I like the Oilers but if McDavid had done that hat trick his fans and the media would be going nuts but the current coverage is just reporting it like the weather. Clear bias, maybe trying to maintain a hopeful narrative for Oilers, who knows. Robertson was badass for that move, he's like a sniper with his accuracy and his creativity takes his skills over the edge. Dallas showed last night to be a more cohesive and versatile team, but GL both sides.

First, I want to say that this is the kind of coverage that will keep me coming back. I have been critical of your coverage of Dallas on this channel over the last few weeks, but I felt like this video was a step in the right direction. It was fair, but it still kept your character, tone, and opinion in tact. This is good content, and I am hopeful that it continues.
Second, I appreciate the insight you gave in your last Edmonton/Dallas video. I understand that you have a family and it is hard to watch all of the games, and I get that it makes making a video after every playoff game difficult. I have littles myself, and I know how difficult it is to watch playoff hockey when these puck drops are so late. It’s brutal. I appreciate the effort to improve and the acknowledgment that Dallas fans had a right to be a little upset about the coverage they’ve received. I don’t think every RUclipsr would take the time to address these concerns, so it really is appreciated. I understand that you aren’t always going for a “down the middle” fair perspective, and I am sure a lopsided viewpoint is more likely to generate clicks and generate engagement.
As far as your question goes-Game 3 was both a blown game for Edmonton and Dallas playing up to their potential. Dallas came out flat-footed in the first. Also, the D pairings weren’t working and they got that straightened out after the 1st Period. Dallas has played like this all year, though. They don’t play very well early in the game and then come roaring back. I think it is also just a symptom of their style of play. They wear you down with their forward depth, and they show up big in key moments. With Miro and Lindell on the back end and Otter in net, they are really tough to hold a lead against. Just ask last year’s Stanley Cup champs!
To be fair to the Oilers, the Stars pretty much owned Colorado last series, and I don’t really see the same thing here. Edmonton has surprised me a bit with their depth and defense being stronger than advertised and Skinner looked great in games 1 & 2. Oiler fans should stop hating on him so much for simply “regressing to the mean” a bit. The defensive breakdowns in their own zone opened the door for Dallas. Skinner is playing pretty well-you just can’t give Dallas that kind of time and space.
Sorry for another essay-keep videos like this coming!

As a Dallas local, I have a (likely) unpopular opinion on this.
In the first period, the Oilers beat the crap out of the Stars in every way…skating, passing, physicality, and (obviously) on the scoreboard.
Here’s what I saw as the key to the Stars comeback in this game: Throughout the first period, every time a Star touched the puck, he got finished. That led to turning away from the hits, and getting rid of the puck as quickly as possible. When the Oilers stopped being so physical, the Stars started playing their brand of hockey. Once Dallas had the momentum, the Oilers simply couldn’t stop them.
One of the biggest weaknesses I see with Dallas right now is their passing. It’s just not as consistently great as it COULD be. It might be good for Modano to put on a passing clinic for these boys.

I thought Dallas would win without Roope if he had stayed injured. Would have been a lot more interesting, but I think they still had it. Now you add him back, and suddenly one of the most premium scorers in the game is unlocked in Robo. Along with Roope being one of the few dudes out there who can skate with McDavid. Yikes.
I guess you could call it a comeback but to be honest that's kind of the story of the Dallas Stars this year. Get early punches in the face, whether in a series or in a game. But then they beat you to death with their depth while the reliable lines you have all get gassed.

@@ChevroletCobaltSport Again, skinner has been an absolute coinflip the entire season. If you'd rather take a 50/50 on whether or not Skinner shows up, then be my guest. But the two games Pickard was in net, the entire team rallied to play actual 60 minute hockey. Not the team having zero confidence in Skinner to make a save in the final 20 minutes (where he's collapsed the most the entire season).
And why do you think the Stars played Oettinger for half a season despite him being a rookie in '21? The team played like absolute shit in front of Khudobin, and played like an actual NHL team in front of Oettinger. Same reason they started him for the entire series against Calgary a year later, even though it was his rookie playoff season and Holtby/Khudobin were both healthy.

The only reason they made it past two rounds is because of remarkably weak opposition. The Kings are a pushover. The Canucks (and Jets) this year were WAYYYYYY overhyped by the media and fanbases, as were the Oilers and Leafs (like they are every year). Not a single one of them are genuine contenders. The WCF already happened last round against the Avs. The West is weak-the Pacific is very weak, and the only real contenders were in the Central. The Eastern Conference, on the other hand, is very strong. They had 3 contenders, all of whom were a toss up between as to who would win the Cup. There was two ECFs this year. Last round Rangers vs Canes, and whoever was to be victorious had to battle a SECOND ECF against the Cats. Whoever won would be too tired and banged up to beat the Cats, who would go on to beat the banged up, tired Avs or Stars for the Cup. The writing was on the wall before the first game of round one. My precise prediction was wrong (Avs beat Canes for the Cup) but the overall analysis of who the actual contenders are has been quite accurate.

I remember having a debate with this guy who said Corey Crawford wasn’t an elite level goalie especially in the playoffs because the team in front of him was so good that it didn’t matter if he was good or not.. it’s the opposite, it doesn’t matter how good your team is, if you don’t have a clutch goalie that can pull you through games you won’t get to the Stanley cup final, Rangers are in the conference finals because of their goalie, they were massively outplayed at times against Carolina in that series and won, they’re being massively outplayed by Florida and still find themselves tied in the series with a huge chance to get to a finals.. I don’t see Edmonton getting to a final with Skinner, as you said in this video, letting in goals like that is soul crushing for his team, he’s a good tender that can pull off some great saves but you can tell he is so low on confidence and he second guesses himself all the time. Corey Crawford single handedly pulled the Blackhawks through series at times when he was in his prime, all Goaltenders put their team on their back when they have to. Jonathan Quick was a great example of this at the Kings, Holby pulled Washington through to win a cup and they’ve never been the same since.

This narrative of "Edmonton lost this game more than Dallas won it" is such cope. You could say the same thing if Dallas had lost after their abysmal first period. But the game shifted, Dallas forechecked and defended like they've had success doing after the 1st and second periods, and Edmonton couldn't keep up with that. And the idea that Skinner should have had the last goal is just cope taking away from Robertson having the confidence/wherewithal to pull off a bank shot like that. Dallas turned it on and won this game, plain and simple.

Skinner is getting way too much heat on this one when more of the blame falls on the Oilers' defensive play. He kept them in it even when his teammates just would not remove either the Stars or the puck from his crease. On the first goal there are three Oilers between Robertson and the net and one directly behind him Nobody blocks the shot or lifts his stick. The only effect any of them had on that goal was maybe screening Skinner. And what is even happening on that second goal? Someone falls over at the blue line and two Stars just waltz in and are at the net as the first shot hits Skinner. Bouchard needed to get more physical with his guy and move him away, and the other Star is just vibing there uncontested hoping someone tosses him the puck so he can tap it home. Ekholm eventually comes to get him, but the other Oilers come in waving their sticks aimlessly and accomplishing nothing. Every Star other than Ekholm's essentially has free rein and it's still Ekholm's man who gets his stick in front of Skinner's glove. The ice is too crowded for him to get a hold of the puck, and it squirts right back out to the Star in the back after he's made three saves. It's ridiculous.
Yes, Skinner let in a bad goal. I want to see less of that particular kind of goal from him. But he was fighting all game and keeping the Oilers in it. They HAVE to work with him and support him on that. How do you go into a playoff game knowing you have a goalie who is good when he has confidence and bad when he doesn't, and NOT fight for your life to keep the opponent from scoring? That mid season win streak happened because the Oilers took a big step forward defensively. You can still see some of that step in their play now (most obvious example is how much less McDavid is trying to take the puck into the offensive zone and go directly to the net, on his own, through three or four guys at once), but if they don't rediscover the rest of it and fast, they aren't leaving this round. Hell, they might not win another game. It just makes me mad.

Heard it since the playoff started. Stars have to be the only team left in the Playoffs that has been gifted so many games by their charitable opponents. VGK and the Avs weren't beaten. They just didn't show up.
A golfer who gets 1 hole in one you can call lucky. Now if the same golfer gets 10 hole in ones and can it still be called luck?
In a funny way this Series, despite it being the WCF, was the matchup I was least concerned with. VGK is a matchup nightmare for any team and especially the Stars. Avs have good forward depth and an all-world defenseman. On paper the Stars match up better against the Oilers than either of those previous teams.
I mean get serious. Stars are 1 overtime goal away from this series being 3 - 0. Could I say that the Oilers were lucky to get that goal? Could I say that the Stars didn't show up? Sure but neither of those things would be true.
I will leave with this. If a team collapses then they are too mentally weak and do not deserve to be playing for the Cup. If they are being out-coached then they do not deserve to be playing for the Cup. What other excuses are left when being outplayed is removed?
