  • This video is about a motorcycle that achieved great success in speedway races during his tenure and collected championship titles several times.
    The motorcycle belongs to my friend, who restored it completely.
    At the end of the video, you may see the only preserved speedway Java from the 1930s.

    Speedway: Because brakes are for cowards!

    • @peteloomis8456
      @peteloomis8456 3 года назад

      Dirt flat track AMA bikes use no brakes either but achieve higher speeds with a bigger bike that's heavier . I still love this bike though & I think the later models that changed the jug angle forward more & were running Nitro methane later on ? I have watched these same bikes used in ice racing with ice picks & guards on them & that is also insane . The way these bikes were built in ways were reminiscent of the early board track racers in ways by looking at them . Beautiful bike no cookie cutter crap here at all !

    Several years ago I had the opportunity to try out riding a Jawa speedway machine on a practice track east of Los Angeles. It was absolutely crazy and a miracle that I didn't crash or kill myself. You must have total respect for the machine, because it does not care what you think. You can only hop on and learn its way on the track if you want any chance of doing well. Many thanks! :)

      I too owned a Jawa CZ back in the early '60's (Australia) I cant remember the cc though. The wiring on them was an utter nightmare I remember cursing it well along with many others who tried to sort it.

    I tried running my 250cc Bultaco crosser on methanol that made it very flexible,no faster ,took longer to warm up and needed a very large main jet!Oh and expensive !

    When I started riding, I rode a two valve Jawa but soon I was being passed by guys running 4 valve conversions, Weslakes and OHC Jawas. I got a Weslake and was back in action. Seemed to me at the time, the Jawa was fast but needed a particular riding style as it wasn't as flexible as the Weslake. I'd say the Weslake had a broader spread of power and that suited my riding style. Nice bike. Brings back memories.

      I had a very 2nd hand one about 30 yrs ago. Really nice engine - good spinny power but unfortunately it had magneto gremlins & 2 very slightly bent valves. When it went well I found I progressed better than ever but had become dis-heartened by the time I got its reliability sorted. Bought a Weslake & went backwards - found them to be a very "drivy" natured engine. Horses for courses I guess.

    This reminds me of when I was a freshman in high school and a friend, who was writing a story for the school paper about Bruce Penhall, dragged me with him to the Orange County fairgrounds one night, where Penhall was racing. I'm glad he did! I knew nothing about speedway racing, but I was mesmerized by the spectacle. My most vivid recollection is not of anything visible, but of the pungent smell of burnt oil. I'm not surprised to see the engine has total-loss oiling...

    Light, stone-ax simple, and fast. In my youth I attended an Inter-Am motocross race and immediately went out and bought a 1970 CZ 250 MX. I ate a lot of dirt, nearly went deaf from the expansion chamber exhaust, never had so much fun. I still yearn for the smell of burning castor oil. Jawa rules.

    Jen ještě dodám. I František Šťastný vzpomíná ve své knize na bitvu se Simandlem mladším na okruhu ve Vlašimi.A to bylo Eso.Jinak Simandlovy konstrukční prvky pro speedway okopírovala Jawa,t.j. nádrž oleje byl rám,ztrátové mazání a celkové pojetí stroje.Faktem je,že Simandl vycházel z motoru JAP,ale chtěl být lepší.No,dopadlo to jak dopadlo,ale ostuda je,že se na tento fakt zapomíná.
