- Here's an emotional jewelry transformation I recently finished. I'm thrilled to take you on a journey through a jewelry restoration that's truly close to my heart. In this video, I'll walk you step by step through the process of remounting a special engagement ring and its matching wedding band. What makes this restoration truly unique is the heartfelt story behind it.
The daughter of the original owner entrusted me with this meaningful project after her mother's recent passing. The set had been left without gemstones, as they were moved to another ring while her mother was still with us. But we're about to change that! Our mission? To fill these empty settings with genuine garnets and diamonds. It's a challenge, as the prongs were destroyed during the previous gemstone removal. But armed with my laser welder and craftsmanship, we're rebuilding every single prong from scratch.
I'll also share a common jewelry repair process-re-shanking a ring. This is a technique I often use to revitalize dated heirlooms, and it might just be the solution you're looking for with your own jewelry. So, get ready to witness the artistry, dedication, and emotion that goes into every step of this restoration.
As we delve into the re-shanking process, you'll see how worn-out shanks are transformed into durable, perfectly-fitted bands. I'll guide you through the precise cutting, shaping, and crafting that leads to a flawless result.
But that's not all; we're also diving into the intricate world of stone setting. I'll show you how I resurrected the prongs, providing a foundation for gorgeous genuine garnets and diamonds. Watch as I cut seats for each gemstone, delicately place them, and secure them with meticulous precision.
And of course, no restoration is complete without the finishing touches. Polishing, cleaning, and even rhodium plating for that extra luster-it's all here.

Thank you so much for doing such an amazing job for my mom. And helping her/us honor our grandma/mom
It was my pleasure! Thank you for entrusting me with your special sentimental project! I greatly enjoyed building it💎
It is a lovely tribute to your precious Mom.
This channel was randomly recommended to me by RUclips and now I’m hooked. I never knew or appreciated the skill required to repair and create jewelry. This guy is truly gifted!
Welcome aboard! Thank you so much!❤️🙌
Yea the algorithm got me too, today😉
Same here
Nice to see someone incorporate garnets into personalzed jewelry.
The so called 'semi-precious' stones really don't get the attention they deserve in modern jewelry. Just because they're less rare and therefore less valuable, doesn't make them less beautiful, imo.
I agree! Such a beautiful stone deserves more recognition!❤️
I love Rhodolite,Spessartite Tsavorite I have a fire spessartite hessatite! Garnets rock!😂
You didn’t play a small part in making that precious family heirloom Zach you played a huge amazing part. Your work is stunning.
Thanks Kelly!❤️
This project is beautiful to me, because I lost my wonderful mother to cancer in January, which is also her birth month. Mine is April, so diamond is my birthstone too. I just love how the beautiful rings turned out. Keep up the great work!
So sorry about your mother.. thank you for watching and your kind words 🫶🏽
This channel is super cool. I love seeing young artisans. Criminally under viewed channel.
Thank you I appreciate it!!
Love how you take sentimental pieces and the client's ideas and turn them into beautiful heirlooms.
You’re a jeweling genius! 💯
Thank you so much! I appreciate it!🩵
What an amazing job you doing for your customers! You are very good at your craft.
The ring is dazzling! I'm sure you made the owner very happy!
She loved it! Thank you!
It's so neat how your discipline uses a blend of modern and ancient techniques. Going in on the metal with laser cutters and vats of chemicals... Then using beeswax to help set the gems, as I imagine jewelers would have done hundreds of years ago! The remade ring is a stunner!
I love learning what goes into our jewelry making… the methods and hearing the human side as well when pieces have an emotional side as well. We don’t usually get to know or see what goes on behind the scenes with our jewelry repairs…. This is great!!
Incredible to watch! It’s clear how much care you put into your work. You absolutely saved that ring after its prongs were destroyed. I just love how you value the sentimental nature of jewelry and gems. Your clients are in safe hands. ❤
Thank you very much, I greatly appreciate the kind words! I’m glad you enjoyed the video!🫶🏽
Stunning! I wouldhave loved to do this! My mom is garnet and my bro is diamond. They've been gone for 17 years and I miss them every day. beautiful work!

What a lovely transformation, and cherished by her daughter, I’m sure
Ohhh that's why heirloom/ estate wedding sets are welded together. I often wondered!
What a beautiful creation in honor of their sweet mother. ♥️
🫶🏽💎
They welded together and blended with the new shank beautifully. 🏆
Thank you very much!
This is definitely one of my favorite videos!! You are an amazing artist!

Wow that is beautiful!!
💙💎💙
Garnet is my birthstone too. The rings are beautiful.
Thank you!❤️❤️
There's no talent quite like a man who literally makes his own tools so he can do the best job possible! I have a mother of pearl and diamond necklace that was made from my great-great grandfather's tie tack. Looking forward to making an appointment with you to have it turned into something I want to wear, over 100 after my ancestor did.
You make all of that had work look effortless and magical! I really enjoy your channel.
Thank you so much!
Lovely and very sentimental to the wearer.❤
💙💙
You do AMAZING WORK!
Thanks Molly!
Beautiful work, love watching your videos. I recently had my wedding and engagement rings joined as one and I'm so pleased with the result.
Those are beautiful garnets. They're my birthstone too and many of the stones I see used in jewelry are almost brown.
Absolutely Beautiful!! What a perfect and lovely tribute ❤️!!

Awww bless so beautiful this made me cry, i have recently received a ring from my nan with garnet, opal, and diamonds in a gold band. She wore it every day, it was given to me as she's passed away. Garnet, opal and diamond are very special to me as they are also loved ones birth stone's mine is diamond garnet is my mum's and opal is my daughter's. My nan wore many ring's all with garnet's diamond's or Ruby's her favourite stone's but she only had one ring with opal. I feel so blessed to have been given this ring it was my favourite one and i would play (wear it for a bit) with it as a child. It's a special gift that i will one day give to my daughter
I love you videos they are so well narrates. You explain things in such a detailed and thorough manner that is also very engaging to the viewer!
Thank you for the feedback! I’m new at this and I like hearing what viewers like/dislike😅
It looks beautiful! i have to say your videos really inspire me, I used to think about studying to be a jeweler when i was younger and now i really am considering it again.
Thank you! You should consider it! It’s a very interesting field!💎

✨✨
Your work is amazingly beautiful. A true artisan, and that work is not easy. I took basic jewlery classes and did not have the patience this bench work takes! That tiny saw did me in!!😂😂 Love watching these videos.
Beautiful
Thank you🫶🏽
Sooooo beautiful
Absolutely beautiful!
Thank you so much! I appreciate it 🫶🏽
Amazing ! Love it ❤
Beautiful 😻
Wow! That is beautiful! I love how you recycle old wedding rings to redo the shanks. I think that makes it even more meaningful, as those were once a part of someone else’s story. My grandpa (he died before I was born) and father in-law were both jewelers, so I find this so interesting. My father in law actually made my engagement ring. Part of the setting on the side wasn’t quite perfect and I actually loved the fact it wasn’t. It showed it was actually made by a person rather than a manufacturer. Unfortunately it was lost, but my niece ordered me one that looked almost the same. On another note anyone reading this should get jewelers insurance. You never think you’ll loose your wedding ring until you do and then it’s too late, a small price to pay if you ever end up needing it.
This is unique and beautiful!
Thanks!!🫶🏽
This is exquisite 😮❤
This is so beautiful. I’m so emotional looking at this. What a lovely way to remind a daughter of the bond she shared with her mom every time she looks down at her hand. Great work. It has to be such an honor to be trusted with projects like this.🥲🥹❤️
Yes, an absolute honor! Thank you so much for watching!🙌
Wow! ❤🤍
💙❤️
I never had any interest in jewelry but your videos and the way you explain everything is amazing not to mention the jewelry you craft keep it up, this channel is going to be big
Those were beautiful garnets. I loved the colour.
❤️❤️
Love it
Thank you!!🙌
Not only are you very talented and skilled but you’re also cute! 🥰 When I’m rich, I’ll go visit so you can fix all my broken rings! 😉
Thank you!!😎 sounds like a plan!👍👍
what a beautifuul job you
Thank you!❤️
Great work. So glad you popped up on RUclips. Many moons ago, I worked in retail jewelry. My last store had a jeweler in back and it was fascinating to watch. So thanks for the videos. 😊
That is awesome!
It's so pretty...
Thanks Kelly!
It’s a inspiring work.
I wish do this with an old ring I got from my father, despite the problems I had with it, I still keep the jewel and the good memories. I really love the gem in it, but I don't know if it's a spinel or a ruby.
Thanks for watching!!🙌
Nicely done😮😅❤
I would of left the rings just they way they are and would of got them professionally cleaned so they can sparkle with all their luster . In my opinion and me being sentimental 😊😊
Nothing wrong with that
Now I understand why it cost so much to get a ring remodelled!
A lot goes into it!🫶🏽
Lovely, I wish you lived near me ❤
Thank you! Wish I could help!
I wish my family had some precious and sentimental heirlooms to be passed on for generations like these. Though I highly doubt I would find a partner to stay with for life.
There’s someone out there for everyone!🫶🏽
Like watching your videos
Could you show us how you go about inscribing something on the inside of a band? Thank you!
I have a new laser engraver on the way so you’ll probably see that process soon!
❤
WOW, u can do magic. What would be the purpose of the other jewelers removing the prongs?
Thank you!! They had to remove the prongs to get the old diamonds out!
My fiancé and I had my great aunt’s* ring was reshanked for my engagement ring.
*originally belonged to the great aunt I was named for*
Nice!💎❤️
I just love your channel! The background stories as told by your comforting voice are just so relaxing and informative too! How did you go about learning your craft and how long have you been working? I’d love to know!
Thank you so much! I grew up around it! Been doing it for almost 9 years
@@zachemighjewelry you’re very good at it! Thank you for answering and keep up the great work!
❤️❤️❤️
💎❤️💎
💯💥🔥
💯💯❤️❤️🙌🙌
I want to see his and his spouses ring designs
Maybe one day
Gorgeously done. I hope you can design a ring and a necklace for me.😇
🙌🙌
How pretty that turned out 🤩 i was wondering if you end up with any injuries using such small equipment or even metal slivers?
Why did another jeweler remove the original stones?
How long does the rhodium coating last ?
Is that set a Keepsake set? It looks like my mothers set, and i am 54, so not a young set 😊
Nice!
I’ve always ask for my left over gold, there’s no way that I’m giving it to any jeweler! Once I saw a pile of gold from clasps to pieces that the jeweler was using left from him working on people’s jewelry! 🤨
A jeweler will give it back if you ask, but they will also give you $ credit if you are treading metal towards another project 👍
The jewelers I work with give me credit or give it back.@@zachemighjewelry
Where are you located?
It seems like a fun job and you are very passionate too.
Butler PA👍
Okay, thanks for the reply 🙏
Do you go around and vacuum up the dust on tools and the floor because I am sure that there is value in your dust bag. 🇬🇧🕊👑✝️👑🕊🇬🇧
Everything gets collected and recycled! We even recycle our rugs every year or so!
This popped up on my feed again …
2 questions …
1. Does the joinery create a weakened area on the band when you replace the bottom band?
2. I always wondered about the wood on your tool bench … how often do you have to replace that?
